It's not a Marvel Studios production, but Sony clearly listened to our plea for Chris Cooper to land in a Marvel movie.
The Hollywood Reporter has the news that Academy Award-winning actor Chris Cooper has scored a major role in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2." According to the report, he'll play Norman Osborn, the head guy in charge of Oscorp and the man who ultimately becomes the Green Goblin in Marvel Comics lore.
Osborn had a role to play in the first "Amazing Spider-Man," albeit off-screen. He was mentioned frequently by Curt Connors and others, and was said to be sick and close to death. Clearly, he'll be alive long enough to have an appearance in the "Spider-Man" sequel.
Cooper joins an increasingly packed cast and a rising roster of rogues: Jamie Foxx and Paul Giamatti are already on board as Electro and the Rhino, respectively. Further, Cooper is the second Osborn to be cast in the film; "Chronicle" actor Dane DeHaan is on tap to play Norman's son, Harry. Previously, Willem Dafoe occupied the role of Norman Osborn in Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man" movies.
"The Amazing Spider-Man 2" swings into theaters on May 2, 2014.
