Deadline has confirmed what we had a hunch about: Maximiliano Hernandez is returning as S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Jasper Sitwell in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier." Super Hero Hype mentions that the actor confirmed his involvement via Twitter, but those tweets have mysteriously...vanished. The article quotes Hernandez as tweeting:
"So it's a much bigger role in a much darker Cap Story. Lots of twists and turns. And lots secrets about the MCU revealed! I can't say much more or the Marvel cops will revoke my SHIELD clearance! Trust me u will all freak out in the theatre when all is revealed!"
This marks Hernandez's third film outing as Agent Jasper Sitwell, following "Thor" and "Marvel's the Avengers." Hernandez also appeared in the two Marvel Cinematic Universe One-Shot Short Films "The Consultant" and "Item 47." With Clark Gregg's involvement in the Marvel movies unclear now that Agent Phil Coulson will be returning in the possible "S.H.I.E.L.D." television series, there's a real void in the everyman-among-the-heroes department that Sitwell could attempt to fill.
"Captain America: The Winter Soldier" promises to feature the espionage unit heavily, with pretty much every other prominent S.H.I.E.L.D. member signed on for a role. Scarlett Johansson, Cobie Smulders and Samuel L. Jackson round out the ranks, alongside newcomers (and most likely S.H.I.E.L.D. agents) Anthony Mackie and Emily VanCamp.
