For those of you aching for more Thanos, Marvel Comics has a cure for what ails you. In addition to the mini-series "Thanos Rising," which takes on the task of revealing Thanos' origin, a new six-issue event called "Infinity" will pit the universe's greatest serial killer against Earth's Mightiest Heroes. For those of you wondering how big a threat that purple skinned guy could pose the Avengers, the answer is "pretty big."
USA Today broke the news, revealing for the first time the plot of "Infinity" as well as insight from writer Jonathan Hickman. "The universe's greatest serial killer is cut loose to do bad things to our most precious world," Hickman says. Hickman will be joined by artists Jim Cheung, Jerome Opena and Dustin Weaver; the Avengers will be joined by heroes like Nova and the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Marvel.com goes further into detail about the event, stating that the Earth's final hope may lie with the Inhumans, a race of super-powered individuals met with possibly even more fear and hatred than mutants.
The mini-series continues to further the synergy between Marvel's comic book line and their blockbuster film franchises. Thanos' brief appearance at the end of "Marvel's the Avengers" not only signaled the classic villain's involvement in future Marvel films, but revealed the character's more immediate involvement as a major player for Marvel Comics. With both "Thanos Rising" and "Infinity," Marvel Comics has created ideal jumping on points for Marvel Cinematic Universe fans who have yet to try the comics. And with a writer like Hickman and that trio of heavy-hitting artists, "Infinity" seems primed to give fans the exact same thrills as last summer's big-screen extravaganza.
A free preview issue of "Infinity" will be available on Free Comic Book Day (May 4th). The series begins in August.
Be sure to check out Marvel.com for more information on "Infinity."
