It seems as though Warner Bros.' plans to build a larger DC cinematic film universe will begin with "Man of Steel." Producer Chris Roven confirmed in a recent interview that the upcoming Superman movie will set the stage for more DC characters being introduced.
"['Man of Steel's'] setting the tone for what the movies are going to be like going forward. In that, 'Man of Steel' is definitely a first step," he told Entertainment Weekly. "What Zack [Snyder] and Chris [Nolan] have done with ['Man of Steel'] is allow you to really introduce other characters into the same world."
When screenwriter David S. Goyer was asked a similar question, he wasn't as direct. Still, it seems like there will be some Easter eggs in the new superhero movie.
"I would love to tell you yes or no [on 'Man of Steel' leading to a shared universe], but I think it’s going to be more exciting for people to keep a beady eye out and find what they can find," Goyer said.
Easter eggs like, maybe, the Flash or Wonder Woman popping up? Marvel kickstarted their MCU by having Nick Fury drop in at the end of "Iron Man," so it would make sense for WB to follow the same successful formula. There's nothing like the promise of greater things to come to excite fans about upcoming unreleased movies.
"Man of Steel" is due in theaters on June 14.
