We already know that "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" is packed with villains like Jamie Foxx's Electro and Paul Giamatti's Rhino, and the film also counts a pair of oftentimes villainous Osborn men as part of its supporting cast—Chris Cooper's Norman and Dane DeHaan's Harry. While the jury's still out as to whether or not all of these villains are heading towards a massive team-up in the already-scheduled "Amazing Spider-Man 3" (Paul Giamatti hinted that it could happen), the big picture is coming a bit more in focus thanks to a new interview with Chris Cooper.
The actor revealed to Access Hollywood that his appearance in "Amazing Spider-Man 2" might just be a prelude to something more. "This is an introduction to Norman Osborn," said Cooper. "And, apparently, this leads to better things in The Amazing Spider-Man 3."
Cooper went on to mention Norman Osborn's poor health, which was alluded to in the first film. "I think it's fair to say that he's on his last legs, and I don't know if I can say anything more." But if he's on his last legs in "Amazing Spider-Man 2," how does that lead to better things in "Amazing Spider-Man 3"? Perhaps some Green Goblin juice will provide him with a miracle cure...?
Another one of Spider-Man's new nemeses—Jamie Foxx—talked to Digital Spy about his role in the movie. According to Foxx, Electro will be a classic Spider-Man-style villain, made complete with a level of relatability.
"I think with all the Spider-Man villains there's a certain empathy to them," said Foxx. "The way we crafted Electro was.. when he's Max, you definitely feel for him because he's been shut out, nobody cares for him... and, it's his birthday and even his mom forgets his birthday—so when he does turn into Electro, it's serious venom. He does want to hurt everybody, and he feels like Spider-Man betrayed him, so he wants to hurt him bad"
"Amazing Spider-Man 2" opens in theaters on May 2nd, 2014.
