The GoonThe Goon” creator Eric Powell has revealed that he has finished the script for the upcoming CG animated film for director David Fincher and Blur Studios.

"I just finished writing the script a few months back, and Blur is working on a lot of test stuff," Powell explained in an interview with Comic Book Resources. “Fincher is working on a film right now, so we're waiting for him to get some space so we can start showing some of this stuff off. I'm pretty happy with everything so far. We've just got to work to get to the next point. This is a slow, long process."

However, Powell was unable to say whether Fincher would direct “The Goon” or take on the role of a producer. "David's going to be heavily involved,” Powell said. “I've worked with him and Blur quite a bit to get the screenplay together, and it's been a great experience so far." Read more...

As longtime readers know, we've been closely following the ups and downs of a potential adaptation of Brian Bendis' graphic novel "Torso" for quite a while now. The crime drama follows a post-Untouchables Eliot Ness as he investigates the one of the nation's first serial killers, and at one point in the project's move to the big screen, David Fincher was attached to direct with Matt Damon, Casey Affleck and Rachel McAdams tagged for lead roles.

While the project initially attracted significant buzz, Paramount let its rights to the adaptation expire back in January, leaving many people—including Bendis himself—uncertain if it had a future in Hollywood. However, just like any good comic book character, the project isn't staying dead for very long, and Bendis revealed during a recent visit to Splash Page HQ that the "Torso" movie has found momentum once again.

"A week ago I had final, but this weekend, not so much with the final," said Bendis when I asked if he had a "final word" on the project's status. Read more...

Rachel McAdamsWhile actress Rachel McAdams makes the rounds promoting her starring role in "The Time Traveler's Wife" (premiering this weekend), there's a different film she's been connected to over the last year or so that has comics fans buzzing. I'm talking, of course, about David Fincher's adaptation of "Torso," the graphic novel by Brian Michael Bendis and Marc Andreyko that chronicled famed "Untouchables" detective Elliot Ness' efforts to catch a serial killer in the 1930s.

The rights to the film expired at Paramount back in January, but both Bendis and producer Bill Mechanic later promised that there was still movement with the project. When MTV News caught up with McAdams, we asked her if she'd heard anything about the film recently.

"I don't know what's going on with that project. I don't know that it's actually happening," said McAdams. "[Fincher] might be doing something else." Read more...

OblivionRadical Pictures, the Hollywood production arm of Radical Publishing picked up another property this week, which should come as no surprise following Comic-Con.

Coming out of the annual entertainment mecca, the company announced films based on its "Abattoir" and "Shrapnel" titles. Now, a movie based on "Tron Legacy" director Joseph Kosinski's illustrated novel "Oblivion" has been officially added to the company's upcoming projects. Read more...

VillainsLook at the Joker, Lex Luthor, Adrian Veidt: sometimes being a bad guy is just more fun. That’s certainly the belief of the main character in the Viper Comics miniseries “Villains,” who decides he wants to learn the dark art of villainy after discovering the old guy living next door is actually a retired baddie.

Universal is giving the series the big-screen adaptation treatment and producers are conceiving the film as a big-budget, super-dark adventure directed by someone with a sensibility similar to the men who’ve helmed “Fight Club” and “Collateral.”

“I think we want to go big with it,” producer Sean Bailey told MTV News. “My personal ambition is to have it be operatic and epic. If Michael Mann or David Fincher were ever to go make one of these movies, what would that look like? That’s my hope for it. To be in that kind of world.” Read more...

The JokerThe Pixies track that made its mark on film in David Fincher's "Fight Club" is back on HBO this week in a pair of promotions for "The Dark Knight."

Christian Bale's Batman and Heath Ledger's Joker make their debut together on the cable channel this Friday, June 13, and they're doing it to the tune of "Where Is My Mind?" Brad Pitt and Edward Norton demolished buildings to it, and now the Joker appears to be doing the same for the two spots. Read more...

Heavy MetalHow do you up the ante when you already have three of the hottest directors on the planet locked, loaded and ready for your film? In the case of "Heavy Metal," you bring aboard yet another fan-favorite filmmaker and a world-famous musician-actor hybrid.

"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" co-creator Kevin Eastman, also the owner and publisher of "Heavy Metal" magazine, has announced that "Avatar" director James Cameron and Tenacious D rocker Jack Black are joining the ranks of "Heavy Metal," the multi-directorial comic book adaptation from the likes of Zack Snyder, Gore Verbinski and David Fincher (who will also serve as an executive producer). 'Heavy Metal'Sure, he may have just delivered the big screen adaptation comic fans have been itching to see for decades with "Watchmen," but hopefully someone told director Zack Snyder that us comic and movie fans are an insatiable bunch. After all, the blood on the Comedian's pin isn't even dry yet, and we're already asking him about his future funnybook forays: namely, his "Heavy Metal" team-up with co-directors David Fincher and Gore Verbinski that re-imagines the classic, adult-themed animated epic.

"'Heavy Metal,' is coasting," Snyder told MTV News of the in-development project. "I don’t know what’s going to happen, I’m excited about it. I love ‘Heavy Metal,’ if that happens it’ll be great.” Read more...

'The Goon'"The Dark Knight," "Spider-Man" and "Iron Man" were all top-grossing comic book flicks, and all live-action spectacles. These days, in a world of A-list actors desperate to put on the spandex or body armor, it's a pretty bold move to go the CGI-animated route with comic book adaptations.

Even so, "The Goon" creator Eric Powell revealed to MTV News that he wouldn't have had it any other way.

"I always felt that the material would work better animated, just because of the bizarre nature of the characters and the atmosphere of the stories," Powell told MTV News. "But American audiences don't always embrace animation when it's not a bunch of cute animals singing and dancing -- so I was a little hesitant about it." Read more...
