Tune in to the 2012 MTV Movie Awards

"Dylan Dog: Dead of Night" was first announced way back in 2008, and now it's finally on the verge of arriving in theaters. The Kevin Munroe-directed adaptation of Tiziano Sclavi's comic book series "Dylan Dog" is set now for a wide theatrical release in the United States on April 29.

The release is possible thanks to Omnilab Media, an Australia-based producer/financier that picked up the U.S. distribution rights for the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "Dead of Night" will be released under the new Omni/FSR label, with Freestyle Releasing overseeing the theatrical run.

The business arrangement gets even more complicated from there, but the gist of it is simple: "Dylan Dog" will be in theaters at the end of April. Read More...

"Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance" is moving right along, with plenty of time to tighten things up and apply a layer of digitally-rendered, flaming skull-heads before its February 2012 release.

The first movie was hardly a critical sensation, but it has its share of fans. Nicolas Cage is back for the sequel, "Crank" directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor are at the helm, and there will definitely be a bigger taste of the supernatural in the story.

That's what Cage has been saying, most recently in an interview with Digital Spy, where he promised the film is "not going to be like any comic book movie you've ever seen. We keep stressing that Ghost Rider is the most supernatural superhero of all and that's going to really come out in this movie." Read More...

captain america"Captain America: The First Avenger" is going to be a big movie, no question about that — and any big movie needs an epic soundtrack to go along with it. Well, Marvel Studios has got you covered. Industry veteran Alan Silvestri is coming in to compose the score, his first collaboration with director Joe Johnston.

The news comes from Film Music Reporter, though it should be noted that there's no source provided for the confirmation.

Silvestri is a true Hollywood veteran, with more than 100 films credited to his name. He hasn't worked on a comic book adaptation since the 1995 take on "Judge Dredd," but his resume includes greats like "Forrest Gump," "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" and the entire "Back to the Future" trilogy. Can't really ask for better than that, right? Read More...

The lovely Anne Hathaway co-hosted the Academy Awards on Sunday night alongside James Franco. The "Love and Other Drugs" actress was also cast in the role of Selina Kyle for Christopher Nolan's third and final Batman film, "The Dark Knight Rises" — though there's been no official confirmation that she'll also be playing Kyle's alter-ego, Catwoman.

It's important to note both of those points in order to appreciate this morning's news: Hathaway says she will be meowing as the feline-friendly character next July.

The actress appeared on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" yesterday to talk about her Oscar-hosting experiences, and it was there she shared a story involving both Batman and her illustrious weekend gig. Furthermore, she used the name "Catwoman" in reference to her "Dark Knight Rises" role. Read More...

We've been hearing about a "Powers" television series based on Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming's popular comic book series for more than two years now, with the most recent report indicating that a former member of "The Walking Dead" team had joined the project. There's been little in the way of news since then, but now we have another big update.

Bendis recently confirmed on Twitter that the series was picked up and greenlit for a pilot by FX. The Hollywood Reporter further confirms that "The Walking Dead" castoff Charles Eglee will serve as executive producer alongside Bendis, Oeming, Michael Dinner, David Engel, and "The Walking Dead" production company Circle of Confusion.

The report also seems to indicate that Kevin Falls, who was attached to adapt the comic "at one point," is no longer involved. Read More...

General Zod may well be Krypton's most hated villain, but Terence Stamp's appearance in "Superman II" as the escaped Phantom Zone convict also turned him into a fan-favorite character. So it's no surprise that Zack Snyder's upcoming "Superman" reboot could feature the extraterrestrial criminal as a key villain (as was previously rumored) — and Warner Bros. reportedly to have their eye on Viggo Mortensen for the role.

Snyder and producer Christopher Nolan have tagged the "Lord of the Rings" star as a "person of interest," according to anonymous sources speaking to The Hollywood Reporter.

The powers-that-be are still looking at other actors, though Mortensen getting the gig would amount to marquee casting for what we can assume to be one of the film's key roles. Read More...

Jennifer LawrenceIf "X-Men: First Class" isn't on your radar, it should be. The '60s-set origin story directed by Matthew Vaughn reveals how Marvel's top mutant super-team first formed. The "X-Men: First Class" trailer seemed to earn the June 3 release a few more fans, and now two cast members have spoken up about the film in separate interviews.

Jennifer Lawrence (Raven Darkholme/Mystique) discussed the challenges of becoming Mystique, with her scaly blue skin and utter lack of clothing.

"I think I psyched myself out about [wearing body paint]," she tol Parade Magazine. "But then on the actual day, the only thing you're worried about is sitting on things and not rubbing your scales off. It mostly becomes a maintenance problem and the last thing you think about is, 'Oh right, I'm virtually naked.'" Read More...

"Captain America: The First Avenger" is an origin story for Marvel's most patriotic superhero set during World War II, so it stands to reason that Nazis will be among the film's villains — right? Well, based on trailers and stills, there's been some concern among fans that this won't be the case.

Enter "Captain America: First Vengeance" comic book prequel writer Fred Van Lente, who recently told all concerned parties to rest assured: There will indeed be Nazis in "The First Avenger."

"'Captain America: First Vengeance' is chock-full of Nazis, particularly once we start getting into Johann Schmidt’s origin in chapters 3 and 4," he said in an interview with Newsarama. "They’re not downplayed. Schmidt runs an organization called Hydra, which starts as a part of the Third Reich power structure, and so therefore they are Nazis." Read More...

"X-Men: First Class" opens on June 3, offering a 1960s-set look back at the origins of Marvel's premiere mutant super-team, the X-Men. Informed by the mythos built over four previous films, "First Class" offers a new look at familiar characters, particularly the connection between Charles "Professor X" Xavier (James McAvoy) and Erik "Magneto" Lehnsherr (Michael Fassbender).

McAvoy spoke a little bit about the duo's dynamic in a recent interview, calling it a "love story" that finds common ground with the classic Western, "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid."

"This is the first time in their lives they’ve met someone who is an equal of sorts, someone who understands them and can connect and push them too," he said during a chat with Hero Complex. "Especially Charles, he’s fascinated with Erik and his potential. For Erik, Charles is the first person he’s trusted to really tell about his past and the first person to understand the horrible things he’s been through." Read More...

"Star Trek" news is usually the stuff of MTV Movies Blog, but we're making an exception today since this news in particular ties to "Cowboys & Aliens." The comic book adaptation's co-writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are also the writers on J.J. Abrams' reboot of "Trek" and its coming sequel, which is planned for a June 2012 release — and the duo recently revealed that there's a bigger tie between their work on the two projects than fans might realize.

"['Cowboys and Aliens'] inspires it a little bit," Orci said in an interview with Airlock Alpha. "'Star Trek' was 'Wagon Train [to] the Stars.' Isn't that how Gene Roddenberry pitched it? So right now we're just doing 'Stars Come to the Wagon Train' and now we start turning."

"Once we start relaxing about what were doing here, I'm hoping that being out in the woods a little bit will kind of inspire the right decisions hopefully," he added. Read More...
