Tune in to the 2012 MTV Movie Awards

Back in June, Marvel Studios announced that Stanley Tucci had joined the cast of "The First Avenger: Captain America" as Dr. Abraham Erskine, the German scientist behind Project Rebirth and the inventor of the Super Soldier serum that turned Steve Rogers into Captain America.

Although Dr. Erskine is a pivotal figure in backstory of "Captain America," very little is known is known about his personality and motivations. When MTV News recently caught up with Tucci, the actor was asked if Dr. Erskine was a mad scientist or a cool, calm and collected researcher.

"He's a combination of both," replied Tucci. "It's so much fun. I did it. I have to go back and finish in October. But I was there for a few weeks in August. It was a great experience." Read More...

Although "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World" didn't set the box office on fire with its unique blend of action and romance, another comic inspired film with a more traditional romance story may have better luck.

Sony Classics has released the trailer for Stephen Frears' live-action adaptation of Posy Simmond's "Tamara Drewe." Frears' involvement with the project was announced almost a year ago. Prior to signing on to the film, Frears had established a strong reputation based on his previous movies including "The Grifters," "Hero," "Dangerous Liaisons," "High Fidelity" and "The Queen."

"Tamara Drewe" stars Gemma Arterton as a young journalist who returns to her home town in the English countryside and reinvents herself as a femme fatale. Arterton is perhaps best known for her role as Strawberry Fields in the most recent James Bond film, "Quantum of Solace." Earlier this year, she also starred in the "Clash of the Titans" remake, "The Disappearance of Alice Creed" and "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time." Read More...

Joss WhedonEarlier this year, "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" and "Angel" creator Joss Whedon was attached to direct Marvel's hotly anticipated adaptation of "The Avengers." However according to Whedon, the cancellation of his TV series "Dollhouse" was weighing heavily on him prior to landing the gig.

Whedon told the Sydney Morning Herald that after "Dollhouse" was canceled that he went through "Anger, anger, anger. Anger. Bargaining. Honestly, this year with my career, I've been going, OK, is it over? Are they done with me and is it time for me to start doing really small or make a graceful exit? Because I'm OK. I have my family, I love to write, I'll always write, they can't stop me doing that."

"But maybe I'm not going to get my shot to reach a mass audience," continued Whedon. "But then I got 'The Avengers.' So, clearly, I'm an idiot.” Read More...

Black WidowWhen the cast of "The Avengers" was introduced at the San Diego Comic-Con International, it was noted that Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow was the only female character in the ensemble cast. Although rumors linking Eva Longoria to the Wasp have been persistent, "Avengers" director Joss Whedon recently confirmed that the Black Widow will be the only female Avenger.

"It is true that the movie is only going to have one female Avenger," Whedon told the Sunday Herald Sun (via Moviehole). "But she will not be the only female character."

Whedon's comment could mean that one of the supporting female characters from the previous Marvel Studios films — for example Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) and Betty Ross (Liv Tyler) or Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) from the upcoming "Thor" adaptation may return. Or it could potentially indicate that one of the villains for the film may be female as well. Read More...

John GloverPrior to the start of the tenth and final season of "Smallville," the CW Network indicated that several former cast members and guest stars would be returning to the series. And while Michael Rosenbaum's Lex Luthor remains elusive, his onscreen father is making a comeback.

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that John Glover has agreed to reprise his role as Lionel Luthor in at least two episodes of the tenth season, both of which are tentatively expected to air in November.

Glover last appeared on "Smallville" back in the seventh season, when Lex Luthor murdered his father by pushing him out of a window. It's not currently known if Lionel Luthor will be resurrected for his appearances, or if he will appear in visions to Clark Kent (Tom Welling) as Jonathan Kent (John Schneider) is expected to. TMNTWhen Nickelodeon picked up the rights to "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" last fall in a $60 million dollar deal, it was clear that the company wanted to make it one of its next franchises. And apparently Paramount — a sister company to Nickelodeon through Viacom — has taken steps to make sure that it happens sooner rather than later.

Deadline is reporting that Paramount has hired screenwriters Art Marcum and Matt Holloway to write the screenplay for the new live-action "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" movie.

The studio is placing the film on a fast-track development cycle and reportedly wants the first draft by October so that the studio can then look for a director to bring the film out in 2012. Read More...
