Tune in to the 2012 MTV Movie Awards

"The Goon" may not have full funding yet, but that didn't stop David Fincher from getting behind his animated film adaptation of Eric Powell's quirky horror/noir series. The "Fight Club" and "Social Network" director admitted that 2010 marked his first trip San Diego for Comic-Con International, but he hopes the trip will prove worthwhile and result in financial backing to get the project completed and out to audiences.

"It doesn't make any sense to make a movie that people say, 'We can't sell this,' so it should find a place where people go, 'We understand how to get this to theaters,'" Fincher told MTV News. Read More...

Carol Ferris' transition into becoming Star Sapphire came up briefly at the San Diego Comic-Con "Green Lantern" panel, and Blake Lively had a few more thoughts on the subject when she was asked about becoming a villain. She didn't get into heavy details, but it's something she looks forward to, and the chance to land a couple of punches on her co-star Ryan Reynolds may warrant a training session with a certain "Avengers" actress.

"Oh my gosh, I would love to," Lively told MTV News. "To get to beat him up? Best day ever!"

Lively has taken note of Reynolds' wife Scarlet Johansson's moves as Black Widow, and she thinks the "Iron Man 2" actress would react the same way, possibility even with some advice. Read More...

Joss Whedon wants to show conflict between Captain America and Iron Man in "The Avengers," Chris Evans believes Whedon is "the guy for the job," and Chris Hemsworth sounds like he agrees with both of their perspectives. The actor will play The Mighty Thor on screen for director Kenneth Branagh before he moves on to "The Avengers," but he already has a history with Whedon and he's looking forward to what's in store. Asked if he's spoken with the man bringing Marvel's heroes together about his plans, Hemsworth acknowledged that the answer is yes.

"I have, yeah. I worked on '[The] Cabin in the Woods' with Joss," he told MTV News. "So I knew him from back then, and then had a chat to him about a month ago about 'The Avengers' and what he plans on doing, and it is incredibly impressive, you know, and exciting."

Hemsworth nodded that pulling the Avengers' group of egos together onto one team would be a significant issue when Whedon's story kicks into gear. He also made it clear that Thor doesn't like to get pushed around any more than his teammates do. Read More...

A Contract with God movieWill Eisner left behind a lifetime of work that goes well beyond "The Spirit" when he died in 2005, and few creators can claim to have pushed the graphic novel into popular existence the way he did with his book "A Contract with God." Now, a group of directors and producers that includes former DC Comics editor Bob Schreck have announced that they plan on bringing Eisner's story collection to film.

"Getting to know Will Eisner was one of the great honors of both my personal and professional journeys," Schreck said in a press release. "We are all well aware that the work ahead has a very high bar of excellence to aspire to set by Mr. Eisner's pioneering achievements in storytelling." Read More...

Ryan Reynolds was formally presented as Hal Jordan for the "Green Lantern" panel at San Diego Comic-Con, and he's glad that his new costume has sparked debate. Asked which other Green Lanterns would be joining him for the movie, he listed some names we've seen before, but he was particularly excited about the wasp-like planet Apiaton native Bzzd.

"You're gonna see Sinestro; you're gonna see Tomar-Re; you're gonna see Kilowog; you're gonna see Bzzd," Reynolds told MTV News. Read More...

Ryan Reynolds likes his "Green Lantern" costume, and his co-star Blake Lively likes the tension she gets to be a part of as his love interest and rival Carol Ferris. The "Gossip Girl" actress teased that she looks forward to becoming a "villain" during the San Diego Comic-Con "Green Latern" panel, and she thinks the relationship between Hal and Carol will buck Hollywood trends by having her save him on occasion, but she also thinks "Green Lantern" will stand out among superhero films thanks to its settings on Earth and in outer space.

"Yeah, you do get to see outer space — that's what's so nice about it," Lively told MTV News. "You know, in superhero movies it's either in a specific city on planet Earth or in space, but the fact that you get to go back and forth is something that's a unique thing that you haven't seen in many movies."

As for her character's relationship with Hal Jordan, Lively also enjoys their onscreen competition. Read More...

San Diego Comic-Con's Marvel movie panel Saturday gave its audience first looks at both "The First Avenger: Captain America" and "Thor." The show floor where Thor's hammer and Odin's throne showed up proved to be ground zero for the off-screen unveiling of the latter film's Destroyer armor, however.

Destroyer armor

Marvel left a pair of golden doors closed behind the throne for the first few days of SDCC, but it turns out that the space being concealed was hollowed out and prepared to display the metal suit. The mystical armor that's come close to killing Thor on more than one occasion in comics looks detail-for-detail like its illustrated counterpart, and if Loki plans on trying to take the Norse God of Thunder out off commission in "Thor," it's a fair bet that he's going to want to use this fine piece of Asgardian craftsmanship. Ryan Reynolds accompanied new "Green Lantern" footage at San Diego Comic-Con Saturday, and he came prepared to discuss reactions to his costume for the movie. He also presented an off-the-cuff explanation of why it looks the way it does.

"Well, the ring basically is a biological manifestation of its wearer, and that's the mythology that we're sticking to, and that's the mythology Geoff Johns wants to stick to, and I completely agree with him," Reynolds told MTV News.

As far the complaints that have emerged since the suit was revealed, Reynolds would prefer that his outfit be discussed in passionate fanboy arguments than not be talked about at all. Read More...

Joss WhedonJoss Whedon feels comfortable talking about his role directing "The Avengers" now, and even though he's still keeping story details under wraps, he did go on the record to state that the movie won't be based on Mark Millar and Steve McNiven's "Civil War." He did promise to let Captain America and Iron Man butt heads, however.

"You know 'Civil War' comes from what's great about the dynamic between [Captain America and Iron Man]," Whedon told io9. "And so does 'The Avengers,' they definitely are at odds. But it's not a 'Civil War' thing because it existed before that, at least in my mind."

Ultimately, Whedon said that he believes the tension in "The Avengers" and "Civil War" will be rooted in the same issues at the heart of the Avengers team and who Steve Rogers and Tony Stark are deep down inside. Read More...

"Ghost Rider 2" will still feature Nicolas Cage, and he has great expectations for the "Crank" writing/directing team of Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, who will help him take his character to the land of Dracula. The film may not be far enough along to promote at San Diego Comic-Con yet, but Cage was willing to discuss his immediate plans.

"I'm gonna have a meeting with [Neveldine and Taylor] shortly in the next few days," Cage told MTV News. "I'm excited to talk with them about it, and I'm very hopeful that with their enthusiasm and energy this will be an exciting movie as well."

The actor, who first played Johnny Blaze in 2007 under director Mark Steven Johnson, didn't mention anything about bringing Marvel's Dracula incarnation into the film, but he is psyched about seeing the real-world historical figure's castle. Read More...
