Tune in to the 2012 MTV Movie Awards

'Full Metal Panic'Manga's march to big screens in the U.S. continues, as The Hollywood Reporter dropped the news today that Mandalay Pictures has acquired the rights to (and will develop) an adaptation based on Shoji Gatoh's "Full Metal Panic!"

Adding to the announcement is a report that Zac Efron (of "High School Musical" fame) might be connected to the project, but exactly what level of involvement he'll have wasn't known.

The series tells the story of a teenage commando charged with protecting a high school girl believed to have magical powers. Read More...

'Ultimate Wolverine Vs Hulk'For the most part, comic book fans these days have grown accustomed to delays between issues of blockbuster comic series and mega-crossovers, especially when there's an A-list name on the cover. However, no one ever said patience was easy, especially when you're talking about a classic Marvel match-up (namely, "Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk," which we previewed here last week) written by "Lost" co-creator Damon Lindelof.

However, in an exclusive one-on-one with MTV News, Lindelof was quick to lay the blame on no one but himself, and explained why he considers comic book writing harder than writing a hit TV series.

"The blame lies squarely on my scrawny shoulders," explained Lindelof. "I am so slow when it comes to comic book writing. It’s excruciating. I work much better in collaboration. I like to bounce ideas off of other writers and take credit for their ideas. [laughs] When you’re writing a comic book it’s just you in front of your computer bouncing ideas for yourself. You can imagine how long that takes." Read More...

'Joker'First, we saw Wolverine get the fine art treatment with a series of variant covers based on classic works of art. Never one to be outdone, now it looks as though the Clown Prince of Crime -- The Joker -- has managed to one-up "the best there is" with his own gallery show.

"The Jokers Wild: A Visual Exploration of the Clown Prince of Darkness," which opens tonight at Philadelphia's Brave New Worlds Comics (an amazing store, I might add), finds local artists and designers from Philly's Autumn Society offering up unique takes on DC's laughing psychopath. After the jump, we've got a few of our favorites from the show, but if you want to see more, bounce on over to SlashFilm for the complete gallery. Read More...

Idris ElbaThings have certainly been looking up for British actor Idris Elba lately -- after becoming a fan favorite on "The Wire" as no-nonsense street lieutenant Stringer Bell, coupled with his current run as, well... no-nonsense senior executive Charles Miner on "The Office," it now appears that the up-and-comer is close to becoming an official Loser.

According to a report over at EW's Hollywood Insider, Elba is closing in on a starring role in director Sylvain White's adaptation of DC/Vertigo's "The Losers," rumored to be up for the part of Roque, the second-in-command of a black-ops team out for revenge against a government that did them wrong. Paul BettanyFans who have been waiting for Tokyopop's "Priest" to hit the big screen have grown used to long news droughts regarding the adaptation. After all, last we heard from the production was back in December of '08, when it was announced that Scott Charles Stewart had taken over directorial duties from Andrew Douglass on the project.

Well, "Priest" fans, it looks like those months of no news may be coming to an end, as today, The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Paul Bettany is in negotiations to star in the film which is scheduled to hit theaters in January of next year. Likewise -- barring any unforeseen stalls in the negotiations -- the move would reunite Bettany with Stewart, having just finished work on 2010's "Legion," an upcoming supernatural thriller. If you've been keeping up with "Dragonball Evolution" here at Splash Page, then you're well aware that -- judging by the reactions on our message boards -- the film has managed to find itself in the "love it or hate it" camp well before its (re-)scheduled April 10 release. That being said, Emmy Rossum (who plays Bulma In the flick) hopes that the legions of Dragonball fans out there will at least give the film a shot before writing it off sight unseen.

"It is called 'Dragonball Evolution' because it is an evolution of the series, and I think that when you're going from a comic to live-action things are going to change," Rossum explained in an exclusive chat with MTV News. "When you take it into 3D that way, it's just going to be a little different. but I think the core of what it it and the core of the story and the core of the characters is the same." Read More...

Over the past few months, we've seen our share of speculation regarding 'First Avenger: Captain America,' and more specifically, who will fill the buccaneer boots of Steve Rogers -- a.k.a. Captain America. And while the names that have popped up on the rumor grid have included actors such as Matthew McConaughey, Will Smith and that giant blond dude from "American Gladiators," one name that has piqued interest among fans is WWE Superstar, John Cena.

"Strictly a rumor," said Cena in between bites of ice cream, but added with a smile, "If you guys are listening over at Marvel, that is a pretty cool rumor. I'm extremely patriotic, I was a captain of the football team once, so I think it works out. I think I'm your man." Read More...

'Public Enemy'We've seen our share of comic books heroes make the jump from the four-color page to the silver screen over the years, but could we be on the verge of seeing a comic book enemy -- better yet, Public Enemy -- heading to the multiplex?

While we're not in the habit of breaking stories based on anonymous sources, a tipster dropped us a line recently and mentioned that the faces of the iconic rap crew -- Chuck D and Flavor Flav -- are in talks with a major animation studio to produce a feature film based on the band and their recent comic book exploits, with an all-new P.E. album being recorded for the movie. A second, very reliable source then backed up the original tipster's claim, stating a script is indeed in the works, adding, "The first 'Public Enemy' graphic novel collection comes out in May and there is a lot of interest from Hollywood." David HasselhoffTo a certain breed of comic fan (i.e., those who take their funnybooks very light-heartedly), David Hasselhoff is synonymous with Nick Fury -- regardless of Samuel L. Jackson's mega-Marvel deal. However, in an exclusive sit-down with MTV News, "The 'Hoff" revealed that he came very close to being the living embodiment of another, quite popular superhero.

"Believe it or not, I was up for Superman -- the original Superman," said Hasselhoff. "Christopher Reeve was on a soap at the time, and tall and skinny, and I was on a soap at the time and also tall and skinny, and I was up for Superman, too." Read More...
