PunisherFans who feel as though they got a slug to the gut after last week's rumors that "Punisher: War Zone" might be tacked a kid-friendly PG-13 rating can breath a sigh of relief, as word broke out over the weekend (via the film's Cinematographer Steve Gainer on the Raw Studio forums) saying those rumors -- in addition to others that have been floating around the 'net -- were unfounded. Or, in the poetic words of Gainer, "bulls**t."

Along with the promise of an R-worthy bloodbath, those who have been anxiously waiting for the new "Punisher" flick can also take comfort in the reports that Director Lexi Alexander is still attached to the project, and is currently in the edit room making the final touches on the film, set to hit the multiplex on December 5, 2008. 'Punisher: War Zone'Those who have followed the exploits of Frank Castle -- a.k.a., The Punisher -- in the Marvel comics know that he's good at two things: one, picking out a really cool, fear-inducing costume, and two, killing the crap outta people. After all, we're talking about a guy who's used everything from grenades to silverware to fat people as weapons to get his point across.

That said, Latino Review is reporting that Lionsgate will be pushing for tamer, PG-13 cut to be released of the film, leaving many in message board land with some choice words for the studio. As the article points out, it's clear that Lionsgate hopes to do with the kid-friendly rating what "The Dark Knight" managed to do, but fan reaction was the same across the board -- The Punisher is an R-rated wrecking machine that deserves the proper amount of over-the-top violence and gore in order to work. Green LanternThis week, IESB.com were lucky enough to get a copy of Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green's latest script for the upcoming "Green Lantern" feature film, and if their review is to be believed, this could be the end all, be all of superhero flicks.

For starters, the cast of characters reads like a veritable who's who of Green Lantern lore. Everyone from Carol Ferris to Kilowog to Sinestro -- heck, even Guy Gardner makes a cameo, apparently -- shows up in the script, which might be overkill for a first film, but we doubt anyone will complain about that. The film looks to set up Hector Hammond as Hal Jordan's (sorry, Kyle Rayner fans) first major nemesis, while setting up Sinestro as the sequels evil counterpart. Read More...

When the rumor broke that Ghostface Killah would be making a cameo appearance in this summer's "Iron Man," fans of the Wu-Tang Clan were both excited, and at the same time, not that surprised (one of Ghostface's many alter ego's when he's on the mic is "Iron Man," after all). However, many left the theaters wondering if they'd missed him in the movie, only to find out later that the scene was deleted.

Now the scene has finally found its way to the 'net courtesy of the upcoming DVD's bonus features, so all you fans of "Pretty Toney," check it out...

'Kick Ass'After months of battling with numerous Hollywood studios, director Matthew Vaughn ("Layer Cake") is finally prepared to "Kick-Ass."

The film will adapt the super-violent Marvel-Icon series by Mark Millar ("Wanted") and John Romita, Jr. ("Spider-Man") about a high school nerd who tries to reinvent himself as a superhero, but runs into real world bad guys who in turn give him a serious reality check. According to Hollywood Reporter, Vaughn had been attempting to bring "Kick-Ass" to screen for months, but due to the intense graphic nature of the series, all of the major studios turned the project down. Therefore, Vaughn has decided to move forward on his own, raising $30 million to produce the film himself.

The trade says casting is already underway with some big names in the running, including Christopher Mintz-Plasse ("Superbad") and Chloe Moretz ("Dirty Sexy Money"). Mintz-Plasse would take up the role of Red Mist, the angry son of a mafioso who attempts to uncover the identity of Kick Ass.

Is going independent the route the right move for Vaughn? Let us know in the comments.

'The Spirit'Comic fans can be a tough bunch to please, and wildly unpredictable at times. Let's face it, who among us would've imagined Robert Downey Jr. to not only nail the role of Tony Stark in "Iron Man," but make it one that fans could only imagine him as?

That said, when word got out that comic icon Frank Miller would be writing and directing an adaptation of Will Eisner's "The Spirit," it was almost as if you could hear the excited applause through the message boards and blogs. However, after Lionsgate released the film's second trailer for the film recently, that anticipation for Christmas 2008 quickly devolved into to pure fanboy angst.

So what went wrong? Read More...

For fans of the original comic series, one of the characters that many can't wait to see make his big screen debut is Rorschach -- an ultra-violent vigilante who's the first to catch on that something ain't right within the superhero community setting of "Watchmen." He also seems to say "hurm" quite often...

Last night, G4 aired the latest "Watchmen" video diary showing Jackie Earle Haley (the actor who will be playing Rorschach) unmasked for the first time. Check it out below...
