Tune in to the 2012 MTV Movie Awards

'Watchmen: Under The Hood'Even though the buzz surrounding "Watchmen" has slowly begun to die down (if last weekend's box office drop is any indication, that is), fans of the film still have plenty to look forward -- namely, "Watchmen: Tales of the Black Freighter," the upcoming two-disc DVD/Blu-ray feature containing the titular story and the Minutemen exposé, "Under the Hood," both originally parts of the best-selling "Watchmen" comic but not included in the film.

And while we've been able to show plenty from "Tales of the Black Freighter" here at Splash Page, very little has been seen or heard about with regards to "Under the Hood" -- a pseudo tell-all book by Hollis Mason (a.k.a. Nite Owl I) which chronicles the rise and fall of the original Minutemen (highlights of which were very briefly touched on in the title sequence of "Watchmen"). Today, however, Warner Bros. has released a Q & A with "Under the Hood" director Eric Matthies, in which he discusses his approach to the adaptation, the cast, and his favorite scene from the animated feature. 'Whiteout'One of the more intriguing adaptations that's been floating around comic book movie circles the past few years is the often-delayed Antarctic murder mystery "Whiteout," created by Greg Rucka and former Splash Page cover artist, Steve Lieber. Originally scheduled to hit theaters in early 2008, the film was ultimately pushed back to a current release date of September 11 of this year.

And while fans anticipating the film have made do with the sporadic-at-best "Whiteout" teaser posters and "Whiteout" publicity stills, it certainly hasn't soured Rucka's excitement for the upcoming adaptation. In fact, the writer is hoping that the film spawns a possible franchise.

"We’ve always thought that Carrie [Stetko]’s story had three parts," Rucka told MTV News. "The third one -- which was always going to be the last one -- addresses the idea of how this woman who has had this very intimate relationship with Antarctica ends up leaving." Read More...

'Wathcmen' After "Watchmen" opened to less-then-expected opening weekend box office numbers (not to mention a major drop-off in second weekend sales), was panned by most critics and, more importantly, deemed "too confusing" or outright offensive by many parents expecting a standard superhero flick (which resulted in numerous reports of families walking out of the show), could the "end be nigh" for R-rated superhero films at Warner Bros.?

According to IESB, an unnamed source "buried deep into the folds of the Warner Brother's lot" reports that the studio may indeed be putting an end to R-rated superhero fare, and rather, sticking with films that carry a more family-friendly but still with an edge PG-13 rating moving forward. The source goes on to cite the financial success of such PG-13-rated flicks as "The Dark Knight" (currently at $1 billion and change) and "Iron Man" ($582M) as proof that movie going audiences may not be ready for more adult-themed superhero action. Brett RatnerHe's the rumored front-runner to call the shots on a "Conan" revamp, he's officially onboard to produce and direct an adaptation of Rob Liefeld's "Youngblood," and he already has one financially successful comic book adaptation under his belt (2006's "X-Men: The Last Stand"), but Hollywood heavyweight Brett Ratner isn't done with comics. In fact, he wants to do more movies based on them.

"I would do any superhero movie that I was asked to do," Ratner told MTV News. "But I wouldn’t have been interested in 'Iron Man.' I have a lot of respect for [Jon Favreau], because to me, it was a B-character. 'Iron Man'? ... But look what he did." Read More...

Heralded as the biggest showdown in fake news history since the epic Jon Stewart/Jim Cramer face-off from a week prior, acclaimed author Neil Gaiman boldly confronted Colbert Nation leader Stephen Colbert this Monday on "The Colbert Report." How would the admittedly British writer fare against accusations that he won the prestigious Newberry Medal -- an American award -- by stealing it from American writers? Find out in the clip below:

"Obviously, until you write 'F--k It, We're All Going To Die,' the Newberry Medal is going to go to people like me," Gaiman said in response to Colbert's earlier idea for his own, hopeful-Newberry-winning book. Read More...

Last year, DC/Wildstorm Comics and Dynamite Entertainment gave us horror comic fans a little slice of heaven (or hell, depending how hardcore you are) in the form of "Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash," a six-issue mini-series by writers Jeff Katz and James Kuhoric and artist Jason Craig which found the three slasher-flick titans squaring off in a terrifying-yet-hysterical showdown. The book proved to be a surprise success, and fans (including yours truly) have been waiting for the inevitable follow-up ever since.

Well, that wait is finally over, as the folks over at Slash Film have wrangled a first look at the upcoming sequel in the form of a triptych cover by Arthur Suydam ("Marvel Zombies").

After the jump, we've got the lowdown on what fans can expect from the series (quick prediction: lots of bloody death-via-machete/chainsaw/finger blades). Read More...

'Captain Britain And MI13' #12Between the "Wolverine" video games, the "Wolverine" action figures, the break-neck "Wolverine" movie trailers, and the general hype surrounding "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," one might forget about the whole "Wolverine" comics thing -- but Marvel certainly hasn't.

Indeed, the publisher has dedicated the month leading up to the "Wolverine" movie's May 1 release (which is also Wolverine's 35th anniversary) to "the best there is at what he does" with two major events.

First up is a new series titled "Wolverine: Weapon X" by the creative team of writer Jason Aaron and artist Ron Garney, featuring variant covers by some of the biggest talents in the industry. And speaking of art, Marvel will unveil their line of "fine art" covers throughout the month as part of "Wolverine Art Appreciation Month."
