Michael ShannonThe news that actor Michael Shannon is cast as Superman's adversary Zod in Zack Snyder's upcoming reboot flick "Man of Steel" has hit fandom just as strong as the characters pummeled each other in their first on-screen meeting in 1980's "Superman II."

Earlier today, we asked whether you thought Zod was the best choice for the central villain in the "Superman" reboot, and today's news warrants a broader look at the character and the actors who have played him.

Zod, or "General Zod" as he's more commonly called, was a military leader on Superman's home world of Krypton. Although Superman thought himself the last survivor when the planet exploded, Zod escaped disaster because he was imprisoned in The Phantom Zone for crimes he committed while leading Krypton's military forces. WolverineAfter Darren Aronofsky departed the director's chair of "The Wolverine" last month, rumors have been rampant as to who could replace the award-winning director for Logan's second outing. And it looks like one of the directors in the running is "The Source Code" filmmaker Duncan Jones.

In an interview with Empire Magazine, the up-and-coming director revealed that he is in talks with -- or is planning to talk to -- the "Wolverine" studio in the coming days.

"Who knows what'll be coming up next - I have a lot of meetings and catching-up to do when I get back to LA," explained the director, who later confirmed that one would be with 20th Century Fox about "The Wolverine." Read More...

After some initial uncertainty from the fans, Warner Bros. and DC Comics have struck back at nay-sayers by releasing a new four-minute “Green Lantern” extended trailer at last weekend’s WonderCon comic convention in San Francisco.

In the new teaser, viewers get their first in-depth look at the interstellar law enforcement organization that Ryan Reynolds’ Green Lantern represents. It also pushes the concept outside of a superhero version of “The Right Stuff” and more in-line as a sci-fi version of “Lord of the Rings.”

A majority of the scenes in the new trailer take place not on Earth, but in outer space and on the Green Lanterns Corps’ home planet of Oa.

Adrian PasdarOnce a hero, always a hero. That’s how it’s turning out for former “Heroes” actors Adrian Pasdar and Milo Ventimiglia, who were just picked to voice Iron Man and Wolverine respectively in two upcoming animated series.

That news and more came out of last weekend’s WonderCon event in San Francisco, which featured a panel led by Marvel’s Head of Television Jeph Loeb.

Doctor StrangeAs super-hero movies and television shows continue to heat up, some closet comic fans-turned-actors are speaking out to roles they’d like to play when the time comes. And one of television’s highest paid stars, “Grey’s Anatomy’s" Patrick Dempsey, is looking to take his bedside manner to one of the strangest super-heroes around: Dr. Strange.

“I’ve been lobbying for that,” the actor told Hero Complex. “There’s a whole bunch of people [at 'Grey’s Anatomy'] who are into comics and Marvel, too, on the set and they’re like, ‘Doctor Strange, that’s the one you should do.’ It would be fantastic.”

Some of his cast-mates aren’t just fans, but they’re part-time super-heroes themselves. His onscreen wife Ellen Pompeo played Karen Page in 2003’s “Daredevil” and Eric Dane played a villain in “X-Men: The Last Stand,” while former “Grey’s Anatomy” executive producer Allan Heinberg moonlights as a comics writer for Marvel itself – even scripting the Dr. Strange character on occasion. Hugh JackmanAfter the departure of Darren Aronofsky from the director's chair of the upcoming "The Wolverine", fans have been scrambling to come up with names of who could replace the award-winning director. And as it turns out, so is the film's star, Hugh Jackman.

"We need to find another director and once we've found that, we'll be able to know," Jackman told ComingSoon.Net during the CinemaCon event for theater owners. As to whether the devastation caused by the recent earthquake and resulting tsunami would have an effect on the film's schedule, he said it was "too early to call."

"I'm not sure where they're at, so now we're finding another director, but Fox is very anxious to make the movie and we're moving ahead full steam to find another director," he explained. Read More...
