'X-Men Origins: Wolverine'Who is the greatest big-screen badass of all time? Big question. I know. Is it Darth Vader or John McClane? Ellen Ripley or Dirty Harry? Wolverine or Batman?!? These are the questions that can try a man's soul. But we don't shrink from a fight here at MTV News so we're endeavoring to settle the argument once and for all.

Kenneth BranaghIt’s been over two months since word broke that Marvel was courting Kenneth Branagh to direct their next big-screen re-launch of one of their cherished heroes, Thor. And since then we’ve heard nary a peep from Branagh himself. At today’s junket for “Valkyrie,” MTV News caught up with the actor/filmmaker and of course brought up the project.

“I am directing “Thor” or “The Mighty Thor’ as you might like to call it,” he said with a smile before clarifying what the title of the film will be. “I think it will be ‘Thor.'”

MTV has spoken to other writers about why Branagh would be such a good fit for the hero. But here was finally an opportunity to hear from Branagh about what appealed to him about the project. So what’s the appeal of “Thor,” Kenneth? “To work on a story about one of the immortals, Gods, extraordinary beings, inter-dimensional creatures,” he enthused. Read more...

Look, I was skeptical too when Derek Luke let it slip to me that he'd heard that Will Smith had just been offered the lead role in "Captain America" but strange casting rumors are nothing new for this project (please no McConaughey! please no McConaughey!).

Well, if Ain't It Cool put the Will Smith/Captain America rumor to rest, this puts the final nail in the coffin. Last night we caught up with Will himself at the premiere of "Lakeview Terrace" and his would-be casting as the Sentinel of Liberty was news to him. Take a look.

VenomThe good news is Sony is eyeing a "Venom" film based on the crazy cool nemesis of everyone's favorite webslinger. The bad news is...well didn't Venom kind of suck in "Spider-Man 3”? Alright, let's put that aside for the moment and concentrate on the still undeniably cool news. (Click here to read what Venom's creator and writers think of the news.)

Hollywood Reporter says that Sony "is hoping the [Venom] could serve as an antidote to the aging 'Spider-Man' franchise in the way that Fox has used Wolverine to add longevity to its "X-Men" franchise." An intriguing idea to breathe new life into a franchise that desperately needs something, I would say. Read more...

There are a couple of reasons why I love this story in the New York Daily News about 60s Catwoman star Julie Newmar talking Angelina Jolie up to play the role in the next installment of Christopher Nolan franchise re-boot.

Let's take a look at the quote, shall we? "Angelina would own the part," said Newmar to the News. She continued, "My industry friends tell me [she] has made inquiries about the role." One can't quibble with the first part. In fact Jolie almost fits the role so well it's hard not to imagine that Nolan and company haven't put her on a short list somewhere. Read more...

Wolverine This was my first San Diego Comic-Con and to be perfectly honest I was mentally spent by the first afternoon (I think my brain officially stopped working when I witnessed Stan Lee walking in on a Hugh Jackman interview). If you weren't with us in person we hope you were checking in with us throughout the four days right here. If not, no worries. We forgive and forget. And to show you how much we care, let's run through some of what you can (and must!) check-out from Comic-Con '08!

-- We showed you Paris Hilton writhing around in a horror opera from the guys that did "Saw"!

-- We talked "Twilight" music with Stephenie Meyer herself(!) and director Catherine Hardwicke.

-- Rose McGowan IS "Red Sonja" and we debuted the first poster.

-- We learned that Keanu Reeves won't be stretching his muscles as Plastic Man anytime soon.

-- Gerard Way revealed his latest comic book plans.

When we chatted up Hugh Jackman the other day at Comic-Con he was clearly in good spirits. Walking off a stage where 6,000+ just went bananas for you will do that I guess. He said he was game for an "Avengers" cameo but the superpowered folk he really had something to say about were Deadpool and Gambit, two mutants making their big screen debuts in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." Jackman had a lot to say. Check it out below or read about it after the jump.

Jackman on Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool: "We were so thrilled to get Ryan. Read more...

Sam RaimiIt's day four of Comic-Con which means yes, sadly the end is near. But our coverage is just beginning today. Before the sun sets on San Diego tonight we'll have talked to everyone from Jason Statham and Wes Craven to the cast of the new "Friday the 13th."

Not a bad lineup and it all comes after a Saturday chock full of scoops. If you weren't with us yesterday you missed McG and Anton Yelchin talking "Terminator Salvation," Frank Miller talking about the "300" prequel, and the latest on "The Clone Wars."

Today the news keeps flying fast and furious. Coming up soon right here you'll find the latest on "The Wolfman," breaking news on James Franco's role as a world famous writer, and Sam Raimi with an "Evil Dead" update. And that's only what we know right now. More big surprises are surely on the way as this crazy Comic-Con wraps up.

Hugh JackmanSuperhero team-ups are on everyone's brain this summer thanks to Marvel's awesome cross-pollinating in their two summer tentpoles, "Iron Man" and "The Incredible Hulk." Now it seems a certain X-Man may want to get in on the action.

Asked yesterday by MTV News if he could envision a scenario where he'd have a cameo in an "Avengers" movie and the Aussie star sounded more than game. "Any movie with Robert Downey Jr. I want to be in," he grinned. "I’m open to it. I love playing this guy."

The very fact that he was talking was a surprise let alone his interest in teaming up with some non-X-Men characters. Jackman wasn't on the Comic-Con schedule. His presence wasn't even a big rumor going around Comic-Con but there he was yesterday, literally right off a plane from Australia where he'd just wrapped shooting "X-Men Origins: Wolverine."
