Tune in to the 2012 MTV Movie Awards

Dark Knight Rises

Forget football. We know the real reason you guys all tune into the Super Bowl year in and year out: the commercials. Movie fans can always count on awesome sneak peeks at their most anticipated blockbusters during the most popular sporting event of the year, and in 2012, it'll be no different—except there looks to be an extreme lack of comic book movie teasers to look forward to, unfortunately.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Warner Bros., Sony Pictures and 20th Century Fox have opted out of participating in commercial spots at the Super Bowl this year. That means no "Dark Knight Rises," "Amazing Spider-Man" or "Men in Black 3" spots to enjoy alongside your nail-biting football and bowl of nachos this year.

One comic book movie that might see representation, however, is "The Avengers." Disney has purchased ad space for the broadcast, making a Super Bowl appearance by Earth's Mightiest Heroes all the more likely.

"Thor 2" doesn't strike theaters until September 2013, but actors are already lining up for a return trip to Asgard. Jamie Alexander, who played the fierce warrior Sif in the first film, spoke with MTV News recently and said that while she's not officially signed on, she's had "a few discussions" about returning for a sequel, and she already has ideas for where her character should go next.

"I'm a comic book nerd at heart, so I'd like to see the relationship between Thor and Sif progress," she said during the press junket for "Loosies," her new movie opposite "Twilight" star Peter Facinelli. "Whether or not they do that, we're not sure yet. We'll see. I think that element will be in there, but I don’t know how much."

Walking Dead

If you thought Sam Witwer's description of an unproduced "Walking Dead" web series last week would make you miss Frank Darabont, just wait: there's more.

Ain't It Cool News followed up with Darabont to confirm Witwer's account of the online series, which would have followed a soldier's trek through zombie-ravaged Atlanta, culminating in his death-by-zombie-fever inside of the tank we see in the "Walking Dead" pilot episode. Darabont not only confirmed the idea, he also added new details, including the fact that this wouldn't have been a web series, but a full-fledged season premiere.

"This was never meant as a web gimmick, this was intended for use in the actual TV series," Darabont wrote to AICN in an e-mail. "I wanted to kick off the 2nd season with the flashback episode Sam describes, which would have followed a squad of Army Rangers getting trapped in the city and trying to survive as Atlanta falls."

Bane

It goes without saying that Bane isn't a very nice man. Between breaking backs, crashing planes and raising fires, the mouth-muffled nemesis of "The Dark Knight Rises" is certainly a terrorizing figure to keep a close eye on.

But the same isn't true for Tom Hardy, not from the actor's perspective. Speaking with The Mirror about his role in Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight" conclusion, Hardy said he actually found it difficult getting into the overtly vicious mindset of Bane.

"I loved being able to play a baddie and, coming from East Sheen in South-West London, that doesn’t come easily to me," said Hardy. "I actually had to work on not being very nice. I’m genuinely a nice guy."

Sam Witwer

There are many reasons why it sucks that Frank Darabont is no longer part of "The Walking Dead," and actor Sam Witwer — star of the American version of "Being Human" as well as the voice and likeness of Starkiller in the "Star Wars: The Force Unleashed" video games — has added another reason to the list.

Witwer previously appeared in "The Walking Dead" in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo as the zombie soldier Rick encounters in the tank at the end of the pilot episode. (Check out the image above if you don't believe us!) A pretty small role for a relatively known guy, wouldn't you say? Well, according to Witwer, it wouldn't have been such a small role if Darabont had had his way.

In a new interview with Paranormal Pop Culture, Witwer revealed that Darabont had planned to create a "Walking Dead" web series built around his tank zombie's life and death in Atlanta during the apocalyptic outbreak.

Spider-Man

The biggest "Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark" news from the holiday weekend, of course, was Green Goblin capturing Anderson Cooper, who was subsequently saved by the web-head himself. That was pretty weird.

Second to that, though, is the fact that the much derided musical enjoyed some very good news: according to a press release, the "Spider-Man" musical shattered "the record for the highest single-week gross of any show in Broadway history," with $2.9 million earned for the week ending January 1. Not a bad haul, Spidey!

Bradley Cooper

Cosmic Book News reports a massive rumor that none other than Bradley Cooper is set for a cameo appearance as Lex Luthor in "Man of Steel," director Zack Snyder's big-screen reboot of the Superman mythos. Warner Bros. has not responded to our request for comment as of press time.
