Justice League of America #183

As we reported last week, a rumor is currently circulating that 2015's "Justice League" movie will be based on a 3-issue arc of "Justice League of America" circa 1980, featuring the villain Darkseid.

While that rumor hasn't been confirmed by any official sources, and likely would not be for some time, it may prove to be instructive to take a closer look at those three issues, and examine which elements could potentially work their way into the "Justice League" film.

Skrulls

With Josh Trank's "Fantastic Four" reboot now scheduled for a March 6, 2015 release date, things seem to be proceeding full steam ahead for Marvel's First Family. But one of the questions the filmmakers will have to wrestle with is the matter of the antagonists the FF will face in this new take on the venerable franchise.

While Doctor Doom is usually the first name that springs to mind when it comes to enemies of the Fantastic Four, he was used extensively in both of the Tim Story-directed features, and we also got Galactus (sort of) in "Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer". That certainly doesn't preclude either of them from playing a role in this new film, but the minds behind the movie may want to add a new threat to the mix that audiences haven't seen on the big-screen before, much as the "Amazing Spider-Man" reboot introduced the Lizard.

With that in mind, we're going to run down a list of five possibilities for Fantastic Four villains who could be introduced in the new film.

Merlyn

Things have been heating up on "Arrow" recently with the introduction of John Barrowman as the sinister Malcolm Merlyn, father of Oliver Queen's best friend Tommy Merlyn. While much has yet to be revealed about the Merlyn clan and what kinds of problems they might pose for Oliver in the future, the name Merlyn has much significance in Green Arrow lore.

This week in Hollywood Justice, we're going to take a look at the Merlyn of the comics, how he has bedeviled Green Arrow over the years, and what makes him such a fitting archnemesis.

Galaxy Guide

Last week, "Guardians of the Galaxy" director James Gunn found himself in hot water over a blog posting he'd made nearly two years ago. Listing the results of a poll he conducted on "The 50 Superheroes You Most Want to Have Sex With," the post also contained commentary by Gunn that represented an attempt at humor many found offensive, prompting the director to issue an apology.

Well, now that he's helming the Guardians film, there may be issues more relevant to the Guardians' situation for Gunn to consider. For instance, if you're stuck in space for long periods of time, what sort of heroes would you want alongside you? We'll get the ball rolling on that question this week, by giving you a rundown of the top 5 super-heroes we'd want with us under those demanding circumstances.

Darkseid

Yesterday, we reported on the rumor that the makers of the "Justice League" film have already settled on a villain for their piece: the malevolent Darkseid.

But just who is this stone-faced horror? Read on to learn more about Darkseid's history in comics, his designs on our world, and how the heroes of the DC Universe have united to oppose him.

Rom

In a past edition of Galaxy Guide, we discussed director James Gunn joining the "Guardians of the Galaxy" film, and mentioned his affection for Rom, the action figure turned comic book hero of the 1980s. Rom's name has come up again in recent weeks, both for the filing of trademarks by toymaker Hasbro, the current owner of Rom, and for rumors that Disney, having already acquired Marvel (and more recently, Lucasfilm) may be in talks to acquire Hasbro as well.

This has led to speculation that a long-held fan dream might be realized: that Rom might once again return to the Marvel Universe in all his armored glory, a goal that has been obstructed by licensing issues to date.

Given these recent Rom ruminations, and the possibility, however speculative, that Rom might become available for use in Marvel's comics and movies, we thought the time was right to take a look back at the Spaceknight's history, and find out just what's behind this clamor for his return.

Superman

In a recent interview, "Man of Steel" director Zack Snyder discussed the design of Superman's costume for the film, emphasizing his desire to keep it as close to the iconic version as possible, but making some changes along the way.

The debate will certainly rage in fan circles as to whether the changes made for the movie were the right ones, but it's worth keeping in mind that even in the comics, Superman hasn't always settled on just one look.

This week in Hollywood Justice, we're going to take a look at Superman's changing styles over his more than 70 years of comic book history.

Kurse

Last week we were treated to on-set photos of the primary villain of "Thor: The Dark World," Malekith: The Accursed. While Malekith is certainly a formidable enemy by himself, he isn't the only Dark Elf whom Thor will have to contend with in the film.

Algrim The Strong, also known as Kurse, will be portrayed by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (of "Oz" and "Lost" fame). To learn just why he poses a threat to the Thunder God that may even rival that of the wily Malekith, read on.

Huntress

With the Huntress set to make her debut in the next episode of the CW series "Arrow," many fans are champing at the bit in anticipation for her appearance, while those who are discovering these characters for the first time may be left scratching their heads and wondering who she is, having just gotten their heads around this guy with the arrows.

Given that, we've decided to tackle those questions head on, and take a look back at the Huntress' comic book origins in this week's edition of Hollywood Justice.

When the Huntress first appeared in 1977's "DC Super Stars" #17, it was obvious that she was both integrally tied into the DC Universe and yet strangely removed from it. She was the daughter of two of DC's most iconic characters, Batman and Catwoman — but not the Batman and Catwoman most readers are familiar with.

Nova

He's one of Marvel's most important cosmic characters, and a key ally of the Guardians of the Galaxy. And yet, Nova, also known as the Human Rocket, is not currently slated to appear in the "Guardians of the Galaxy" film.

Might Marvel be saving him for a solo film of his own? To see why Nova could merit such treatment, we need to take a look at his history over 35 years of comics, as well as the newest incarnation of the character.
