Arkham City

A couple days ago we told you about the new "Batman: Arkham City" downloadable content, featuring a new challenge map taking place in the Dark Knight's own digs. What we couldn't tell you was what the Batcave would look like in-game. Well, great news: thanks to the fine folks over at GameTrailers, the first images of the new environment have surfaced.

As it turns out, my suspicions in regards to the presentation of the "Arkham City" Batcave were fairly accurate. Based on thirty-seconds or so of video footage presented during GTTV's "GameStop Unwrapped" special, Wayne's lair is pretty much what you would expect.

Arkham City

Few animated television shows have such an iconic art style as "The Simpsons." After 23 seasons, almost anyone can immediately identify the show's yellow-skin, extended upper-lip, and overall look – even if that character has never actually appeared in a single episode. Imagine, for example, the cast of "Batman: Arkham City" were to show up in Springfield tomorrow. What would they look like?

Bringing celebrities and pop culture icons to the Simpsons' universe is the hobby of artist Dean Fraser. His blog, Springfield Punx, has given the Groening treatment to characters like Martian Manhunter and the X-Men, but this week Fraser dedicated his posts to turning the "Arkham City" version of Batman's biggest personalities yellow.

"I'll be home for Christmas," says the Dark Knight, "but only in your paid downloadable content dreams." Now that we have that corny bit of business out of the way, it looks as though a late December "Batman: Arkham City" add-on will take players into the Bat Cave. There's not much more than a date announced at this point, but it's always exciting to hear about an addition to the game that actually adds a whole new environment.

Robin

So, maybe you've already played through the entirety of "Batman: Arkham Asylum." You've snagged every Riddler trophy, you've completed the Catwoman missions, you've even downloaded the Nightwing character pack. What's left to do? Well, you're in luck, because Rocksteady just released some brand-new content this week, featuring none other than the Boy Wonder.

Powers

FX and AMC networks are slugging it out for supremacy in the hip, new drama department. While AMC landed the increasingly popular "Walking Dead" adaptation, FX has set its sights on Brian Michael Bendis' "Powers," hoping the show might make a nice addition to popular programming like "Sons of Anarchy." News of a pilot in production broke a few months ago, but things have fallen silent since.

Now, it seems as though FX is sending the potential show's producers back to the drawing board, ordering the pilot to undergo a re-shoot.

Superman

"Superman," the new iOS game, is the best Superman videogame I have ever played. Now, normally, that might sound like a fairly grandiose statement, and you would be correct in that thinking, if it weren't for the fact that every other Superman game in history has sucked – hard. Going all the way back to his first appearance – on the Atari in 1979 – the Man of Steel has found himself licensed into an endless stream of digital garbage.

Thanks to mobile publisher Chillingo and developer Tiger Games, this marks the very first occasion -- with the exception of ensemble games like "DC Universe Online" -- in my three decades of life that I didn't want to throw a Superman game into a black hole.

Arkham City

"GoldenEye 007." "NBA Jam." "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2." What do these seemingly unrelated videogames all have in common? Each one allows you the opportunity to pursue the age-old tradition of the Big Head Mode. Sure, you can play as the Bulls the normal, boring way, or you can stretch Scottie Pippen's head to disgusting proportions.

The gag was all the rage in the mid-nineties, but you just don't see the cranium enlarging easter egg show up in games all too often today. Apparently, Rocksteady still gets a kick out of the classics, because the mode was secretly placed into "Batman: Arkham City."

Rogue Trooper

Earlier last month, tucked into a Daily Record interview with Grant Morrison, news of a "Rogue Trooper" film adaptation snuck out. It was just a little snippet of information, but it was in black-and-white: Morrison was working on a screenplay featuring the blue commando. Of course, nothing more was said about the supposed project, and it's fair to say it sort of fell off the radar in the last few weeks.

A new interview with "Rogue Trooper" parent company, Rebellion, doesn't exactly confirm that the film is green-lit, but there's a good chance the adaptation is one of two properties being optioned.

Batman

Get ready for the surprise of the year: "Batman: Arkham City" is in the running for basically every Game of the Year award everywhere. The annual Spike Video Game Awards are no exception, where "Arkham City" is up for more than just the biggest honor. Rocksteady's game received 10 nominations for the upcoming award show, only trailing behind "Portal 2" for the most nominations of any game.

Valve's "Portal 2" received 12 nominations, leading the pack of potential GOTY nominees which also includes "Arkham City," "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim," "The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword," and "Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception."

Marvel Vs Capcom

Yesterday, Marvel Comics and Capcom's ongoing feud – OK, I guess it's not really a feud, but they are "versus," apparently – continued with the latest iteration in the "Marvel vs. Capcom" series, "Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3." The franchise is huge with fighting genre fans, but you might ask yourself if the game is really worth the admission price, considering that it's not a numbered sequel. Is this game really "ultimate" enough for your hard-earned bucks?
