Tune in to the 2012 MTV Movie Awards

FROM MTV MOVIES: There's no hiding the success of the "robots in disguise" franchise: "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" enjoyed the highest-grossing Fourth of July film debut ever over the weekend.

Summer sequel mania was in full swing over the Independence Day holiday as the latest "Transformers" movie took in an estimated $97.5 million. "Transformers" beat the 2011 opening-weekend record previously set by "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," which just crossed the $1 billion mark worldwide.

Robin - Batman Arkham CityBy Matt Clark

FROM MTV MULTIPLAYER: We already know that Catwoman is a playable character in "Batman: Arkham City." Now, it looks like The Boy Wonder himself is set to make an appearance in Rocksteady's follow-up to their fantastic 2009 game, "Batman: Arkham Asylum." While Catwoman is built right into the game, there's a bit of a catch if you want to play as Robin right away: you're going to have to pre-order the game from Best Buy. Holy retailer incentives, Batman.

Retailer incentives – store-exclusive game features and characters – have become a bit of the norm these days. Of course, a lot of those exclusives are eventually put up for sale on your digital marketplace of choice, and Shack News has confirmed through Warner Bros. that Robin will eventually be available to everyone.

Captain AmericaAll week leading up to the MTV Movie Awards, we brought you previews of each of the categories in which comic book movies — or their cast members — were nominated for awards. So, now that the the credits have rolled, let's look at how they fared, shall we?

From "Best Villain" to "Biggest Badass Star," comic book movies were represented in five of the show's 13 categories, and ended up winning two of them. "Kick-Ass" star Chloe Grace Moretz was a double winner on the night, taking home the trophies for "Best Breakout Star" and "Biggest Badass Star" for her performance as the pint-sized vigilante Hit-Girl.

While we're a little disappointed that some of the other nominees from comic book movies lost out, it's good to know that Moretz' stand-out performance won over fans. Heck, she even managed to beat "Twilight" actor Xavier Samuel for the "Breakout Star" award — which is no small feat, given the love MTV fans always show the uber-popular vampire franchise. The 2011 MTV Movie Awards kick off tomorrow evening, and prep has been well underway all week for the big event.

Amid all of the pre-show chaos, there's been a steady stream of behind-the-scenes photos finding their way to MTV.com — including some shots of the seat cards indicating where many of the actors, musicians, and other honored guests will be sitting in the Gibson Amphitheatre.

Looking over the photos, it suddenly struck us that there's a pretty impressive comics-style crossover event unfolding right in front of our eyes. Read More...

Our look at the MTV Movie Awards nominees hailing from the comic book world continues today with the final category featuring some familiar costumed vigilantes.

This time around, "The Green Hornet" actor Jay Chou squares off against "Kick-Ass" actress Chloe Grace Moretz for the title of "Best Breakout Star." Sure, there are a few other nominees in the pool, but let's be honest — we're pulling for a comic book movie sweep of as many categories as possible. First up, it's Kato!

Jay Chou
As the film's motorcycle-riding martial artist and mechanic, Chou took on the unenviable task of filling the shoes of original Kato actor Bruce Lee. Chou stepped up to the challenge with a mix of quick wit and even quicker moves, making the best of director Michael Gondry's "Kato Vision" style of fight filming. Read More...

Our introduction to the 2011 MTV Movie Awards nominees hailing from the comic book movie world continues today with another double-dose of actors portraying some of last year's most popular costumed heroes.

In the "Biggest Badass star" category, "Kick-Ass" star Chloë Grace Moretz and "Iron Man 2" headliner Robert Downey Jr. go up against a trio of other brawlers who kicked no small amount of butt on the big screen in 2010. And just in case you need a reminder why Moretz and Downey are in the mix, we've put together a little refresher video for each of them.

Robert Downey Jr.
Let's face it: Iron Man wasn't a household name until Downey made the role his own, and he continued to keep the armored Avenger on everyone's minds last year in "Iron Man 2." Not only did he have a climactic brawl with "Best Villain" nominee Mickey Rourke, but he also had a memorable showdown with Don Cheadle, who had everyone looking forward to his debut as War Machine. Oh, and on top of all that, he donned the briefcase armor — what more can fans ask? (*cough* Mandarin *cough*) Read More...

FROM MTV MULTIPLAYER: We already knew that Catwoman would play an important role in "Batman: Arkham City." She appeared in the demo I checked out back at GDC, where she was a hostage of Two Face, dangling from a thread over some nasty acid, and the developers have said that she plays a key role in the story. But just how crucial is she? Apparently enough to make her a fully playable character.

While Batman is definitely the main hero of "Arkham City," there's something of a side story being told with Catwoman, who is attempting the heist of all the stolen goods recovered from Gotham's greatest criminals. Catwoman's story is completely interwoven with Batman's, though, and players will have to take control of both leather-clad super heroes in order to make it through the campaign.
