Tune in to the 2012 MTV Movie Awards

AvengersWe've heard from several of the "Avengers" stars recently about seeing the whole team in costume, but we're another step closer to seeing Earth's Mightiest Heroes assemble with today's debut of a new promotional image for the film.

During the Licensing Expo 2011 convention in Las Vegas, an eagle-eyed attendee snapped a photo of an image advertising the upcoming line of "Avengers" movie-licensed merchandise. And while it's not an official movie promo image, it does give us our first decent look at Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye and the new costume Captain America dons in the modern era.

The photo was snapped by Twitter user theonlyesq, and shows Hulk, Captain America, Hawkeye, Thor, Black Widow, and Iron Man leaping — and smashing and flying and jump-kicking — into action. Read More...

Josh StewartCasting announcements for "The Dark Knight Rises" have been rolling out at a steady clip the last few months, even after production officially began on the film last month. However, the latest addition to the cast of Christopher Nolan's final Batman film could be the last name added to the mix.

Actor Josh Stewart ("The Collector") has joined the cast of "The Dark Knight Rises," according to Variety. The 34-year-old actor joins the much-anticipated film's cast in an unspecified role — which is pretty much par for the course when it comes to Nolan's wildly successful Batman franchise. Beasts of BurdenWay back in September 2009, we suggested that Dark Horse Comics' award-winning comic book series "Beasts of Burden" would make a great big-screen adventure. It looks like our recommendation found its way to the right people, because the celebrated series is indeed getting the adaptation treatment.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Shrek" and "Chronicles of Narnia" director Andrew Adamson will produce a CG-animated feature based on the series, which follows a group of dogs and cats who fight supernatural threats around the small community of Burden Hill. The Eisner-winning series was created by Evan Dorkin and Jill Thompson.

The CG animation for "Beasts of Burden" will be created by Reel FX, which specializes in CG and live-action hybrid projects. Read More...

Comic-ConIn recent years, San Diego's Comic-Con International has become the most prominent showcase for Hollywood's upcoming offerings, with the hottest projects on both the big and small screens competing for attendees' attention and a share of industry buzz. However, that could all change in 2011.

In an article about Hollywood's changing perception of the annual event, The New York Times indicates that many of the studios responsible for the most anticipated upcoming films could be sitting out Comic-Con this year — and that could mean a conspicuous no-show for films like "The Dark Knight Rises" and the "Superman: Man Of Steel" reboot.

According to the report, Warner Brothers won't be bringing any films to this year's show, and neither Walt Disney Studios nor Dreamworks will have a significant presence in San Diego. In fact, the report goes on to suggest that Marvel Entertainment is still undecided regarding whether to bring "The Avengers" to Comic-Con. Read More...

Captain AmericaIt's no secret that "Captain America: The First Avenger" will explore the World War II origin of Marvel's star-spangled superhero, but a new, rare poster created for the film has taken the homage one step further by recreating one of the character's most iconic moments.

Created specifically for the "Captain America" cast and crew by artist Paolo Rivera, the new poster features an image of Captain America punching Adolf Hitler — a nod to the famous cover for 1941's "Captain America Comics" #1.

Sadly, it might prove difficult to get your hands on one of these awesome posters, as Marvel only printed up 100 copies of them. Some of them were given away during this weekend's Hero Complex Film Festival, but if you weren't one of the lucky few, your best bet might be to keep an eye on eBay. Read More...

Spider-Man: Turn Off The DarkOkay, I'll admit it: A few months ago I wouldn't even have entertained the idea of seeing "Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark" multiple times, let alone recommend that you see it. Back in January, when we published a list of five things we liked about the show and five things we hated, we had trouble coming up with enough items for the former, and had even more trouble narrowing down our list of the latter.

Since then, the budget-busting Broadway show has undergone a massive overhaul, with former director Julie Taymor departing the production, and an entirely new set of writers — including comics scribe Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa — brought on to rework the script.

With the show finally ending its record-breaking run of preview performances next week and marking its official Broadway debut, I found myself in the audience a second time to find out whether "Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark" had finally spun a web that will keep audiences in the seats. Green Lantern"Green Lantern" hits theaters next week, so that means you should get used to seeing an emerald hue everywhere you look the next few days. DC's ring-wielding hero has a particularly big presence on the small screen lately, with previews popping up on a regular basis on-air and online.

While many of the television spots recycle existing footage, one of the recent previews actually offers quite a bit of new footage from the film, including a bunch of new constructs Hal forms with his ring. Read More...

With just about every comic book movie hitting theaters these days, it's hard not to wonder about studios' over-arching plans for characters with rich histories like Green Lantern, who's making his big-screen debut next week.

When MTV News recently sat down with "Green Lantern" stars Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, we asked them how much they know about the in-development script for "Green Lantern 2" and what it it might involve for their characters.

"I'm pretty aware [of the 'Green Lantern 2' story]," Reynolds told MTV News.

"Really? They don't tell me anything," added Lively. "This is awkward." Read More...

Wonder WomanThe "Wonder Woman" television series might never find its way to the small screen, but I'm probably not alone in looking forward to the inevitable online debut — official or otherwise — of the show's pilot episode. Until then, however, we'll have to make do with snippets of footage like the one that popped up on the 'net today.

The short, seven-second "Wonder Woman" teaser was posted by Bleeding Cool, and features a brief scene of Adrianne Palicki in costume walking toward the camera. The teaser opens and closes with the "Wonder Woman" logo.

While there's not a lot there, it's our first look at any real footage from the ill-fated project, which NBC passed on last month. Read More...

The WolverineLast month, it was reported that the list of potential directors for "The Wolverine" was down to eight names. Now it looks like that list is one name shorter.

Speaking to Digital Spy, "Never Let Me go" director Mark Romanek said he won't be behind the camera when Hugh Jackman reprises his role as the clawed Canadian mutant.

"That's just one of those stories that floated around," he said of the May report that put him on "The Wolverine" short list. "I was on their list, I received the script months ago. It didn't seem like my kind of thing." Read More...
