It's a Comic-Con rite of passage to wander the convention hallways, mouth agape, trying to take in the vast array of characters on display. But we're not talking about those on the printed pages, the heroes configured as plastic poseables or the associated celebs and filmmakers. Those are cool, but we're talking about the fans who take their devotion to its highest level: Cosplay.

San Diego Comic-Con is nothing without the constant flow of eye candy, as folks wearing costumes of various degrees of quality (and obscurity) from all the realms of pop culture intermingle freely and giddily all week.

Man of Steel

It's a bird, it's a plane… It's Henry Cavill at Comic-Con!

Superman himself will pay a surprise visit to Hall H alongside his "Man of Steel" director Zack Snyder on Saturday (July 14), according to The Hollywood Reporter. Warner Bros. had previously announced that the "Watchmen" director would be on-hand to unveil footage from his big-budget reboot of the DC Universe's most well known character. But there was no mention of Cavill, who will don the red and blue in "Man of Steel," due in theaters next year.

Comic-Con

Superheroes take on many forms at San Diego Comic Con, from the printed page, to the costumed masses, to the actors who've donned capes and cowls on screens big and small. No SDCC would be complete without these heroes plastic counterparts. Our buddies at MTV Geek sifted through the variety of exclusive figures making their multiple-points-of-articulation-fueled debuts this year and came up with a list of the 10 Best.

Last year was all about Mattel's delicious looking Stay Puft and a Swamp Thing so killer it could even make Alan Moore crack a smile.

Photographic evidence lies below!)

Comic-Con

It's that time of the year again, folks. We are just a handful of hours away from my personal favorite event of the year, San Diego Comic-Con. MTV News will be bringing you extensive convention coverage for those of you staying at home, but we've put together a quick survival guide for those of you daring the depths of Hall H and the Exhibit Hall this year.

Comic-Con is a time for fun, but it's also a good time to be prepared. Those four and a half days in San Diego will fly by before you know it, so make sure you follow these simple rules and you'll be sure to have a great time.

EMBRACE IT: THE LINES
If you're going to complain about having to wait in line for three hours to check out some of the awesome panels happening in Hall H this year, then Comic-Con is not the place for you. Want to see all the exclusive footage that will likely be shown from "Pacific Rim," "Elysium" or "Iron Man 3"? Well, so do thousands of other people. If you look at them as your allies instead of your enemies, then you'll be a lot happier. Hey, it's a lot like living in NYC!

As you read this, the MTV Movies team is en route to sunny California for the annual nerd mecca known as Comic-Con International. Comics, movies, television, obstacle courses … if you can dream it, Comic-Con has it, and you can be sure we'll do our best to bring it all to your doorstep.
