Earlier this week, General Zod himself took to our nation's airwaves in a new TV spot for the upcoming "Man of Steel." In the aforementioned ad, Zod demands that Kal-El (a.k.a. Superman) be returned to him or else the good people of Earth will suffer. Although the commercial is super static-y, you can just barely make out the distorted image of Zod sporting his terrifying new mask.
As any Superman fan could tell you, General Zod is one of the Man of Steel's biggest and most well known adversaries, other than Lex Luthor of course. In fact, he's already played a key part in both "Superman" and "Superman II" as portrayed by Terence Stamp. But if you're looking to brush up on your Zod knowledge before "Man of Steel" hit theaters, then look no further! MTV Splash Page has just the thing for you! Here are five General Zod stories from DC Comics that will help you get into the mind of this summer's biggest villain.
"Adventure Comics" #283 (1961)
In Zod's earliest appearance, the disgruntled Kryptonian is depicted as an ex-military leader turned megalomaniac. After the destruction of one of Krypton's moons, General Zod raises an entire army of robotic clones in an attempt to take over the entire planet. Eventually, Zod is banished to the Phantom Zone with a 40 year sentence but that doesn't stop him from escaping every now and again to mess with the Man of Steel.

Dark Horse Comics is pound for pound the best comics publisher in the world with super franchises like the "Hellboy" universe, "The Goon," the "Whedonverse," and "Star Wars" under its belt. They've also released Frank Miller's finest work (not published by Marvel or DC), and many new, cutting edge series and graphic novels. Dark Horse has more than proved its reputation as the biggest non-big two publisher, though it's yet to truly hit that Marvel movieverse or "Dark Knight" level of success at the multiplexes. The "Hellboy" flicks, "Sin City," "300," and "The Mask" were big but not BIG. And we'll pretend the Pam Anderson vehicle "Barb Wire" never happened.
There are a number of great Dark Horse titles in various states of production including "R.I.P.D.," "Mind MGMT," "The Goon," "Beasts of Burden," and others. Some of those could very well blow up the box office, if some of them ever get out of development and see the light of day. With news that "Hellboy" creator Mike Mignola has firmly said that a third adventure with Red and the "B.P.R.D." is a no go at cinemas, we figured it'd be fun to compile a list of other Dark Horse Comics that might be ripe for adaptation.

The 2013 MTV Movie Awards are this Sunday, April 14th. The fate of one category, Best Hero, rests in your social-media-savvy hands. But there isn't much of a choice in this category — at least not according to Splash Page writer Josh Wigler.
What's got two thumbs, a multi-billion-dollar corporation to his name, a secret lair and arsenal of highly sophisticated anti-crime technology, and is the Best Hero of the year?
The answer, unfortunately, is not "this guy," as much as I'd like it to be. Instead, I'm throwing all of my hero worship behind the Batman, easily the most deserving candidate in the Best Hero category at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards.
"Why is Batman the Best Hero," you ask? Really? We have to answer that question? We'll limit ourselves to ten responses, otherwise we would be here all day.

When it comes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it's no secret who the most popular Avenger is. Let's give you some hints: his third standalone movie is coming out in less than a month, his two films made more money than the rest of the standalone Marvel movies combined and he's got a sweet collection of armored suits. If you guessed we were talking about Iron Man, than you would be correct.
Of course, Iron Man's coolness comes from more than just the fact he rakes in the big bucks for his mother studio. Tony Stark's also hilarious, has great taste in cars, and what's that phrase he likes to say? Oh yeah, he's a "genius billionaire playboy philanthropist." With that being said, is there really a question about who you should vote to win the MTV Movie Awards Best Hero award?

The 2013 MTV Movie Awards are this Sunday, April 14th. The fate of one category, Best Hero, rests in your social-media-savvy hands. In this rousing opinion piece, Splash Page writer Eddie Wright passionately explains why Hulk deserves your vote.
Hulk smash. Two words, yet so much meaning. What did the those two words mean for movie-goers in 2012? What exactly did Hulk smash? Why did he smash it? And will he smash it again? Let's take a look at why 2012 was the year of the most deserving nominee for Best Hero at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards, "Marvel's The Avengers'" Hulk.
Last year, Hulk was the black sheep of the Marvel movie universe. Sure, there had been bigger Marvel-based clunkers like "Fantastic Four," "The Punisher," "Ghost Rider," and "Daredevil," but Hulk was part of something bigger. The Hulk was part of the newly streamlined Marvel Studios movie universe. He was a character fully licensed and produced by the very comic company that created him. The Marvel Studios movie universe (or MSMU as no one calls it) was something special after "Iron Man" in 2008. The second Nick Fury showed up after the end credits and told Tony Stark that he was part of a larger world full of super-powered nutbars and costumed weirdos, the Marvel movies began to form into a cohesive whole, structured similarly to their comic book counterparts. And after "Iron Man" set the table by netting nearly $600 million, it was up to the big green guy to smash it to bits with "The Incredible Hulk," the second theatrical Hulk outing following Ang Lee's Freudian freakfest (which I kind of love) "Hulk."

As evidenced by the film's first image and official synopsis, Captain America will be working very closely with the global peace-keeping unit S.H.I.E.L.D. in next year's "Captain America: The Winter Soldier." This makes sense given that S.H.I.E.L.D. has been pulling the strings behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe ever since Nick Fury made a surprise cameo after "Iron Man's" credits. It was S.H.I.E.L.D. that kept tabs on the burgeoning world of super heroes and it was Nick Fury's goal to make them all play nice with each other. He even added two S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, Hawkeye and Black Widow, to the roster to round out their ranks.
Captain America forged an even more personal connection to the organization after they resuscitated him after a nearly seventy year nap in "Captain America: The First Avenger." With no home or anyone to turn to, S.H.I.E.L.D. became Steve Rogers' lone connection to the wider world until he met those other Earthly champions and found a purpose. "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" seems to follow Captain America as he gets to work in the here and now as an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. This angle will tap into a totally new side of Captain America's comic book legacy. His relationship with S.H.I.E.L.D. in the Marvel comics goes back a long way.

With the 2013 MTV Movie Awards just on the horizon, we here at MTV Splash Page have been completely divided on the subject of who should win the award for Best Hero. Sure, candidates like Iron Man, Batman or even the Hulk seem like the obvious choice to make, thanks to their own feature films and TV shows. But what about the underdog? Or rather... the undercat. Yes, that's right. My vote is for Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle a.k.a. Catwoman.
In "The Dark Knight Rises," Catwoman only steps up to the plate when it counts the most by saving both Gotham City and Batman from a fate worse than death. She doesn't ever pretend to be something that she's not, which is a quality that ever hero should have. While Selina may steal priceless diamonds and act in her own interest, she still proves herself to be a good person, managing to pull through and make the right choice despite her own questionable morality.

Seth Rogen, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson and Evan Goldberg will be on hand tonight to debut new footage from the film before its release on June 12th. The exclusive clip airs on MTV at 11 p.m. ET. Unlike pretty much every other feature film, the actors in this movie all portray themselves as they struggle to survive Los Angeles after its upended by a series of apocalypse-level events. Watching these comedians deal with food rationing and cabin fever will be insanely funny, sure, but what would actors from superhero films be like in the event of the end? These actors have regularly faced horrific (albeit CGI) events and most of them have had to go through some physical training.
Here are the five actors we want on our side when things go down.
Robert Downey Jr.
While Downey Jr. probably doesn't possess Tony Stark's technological genius (no suits of armor being built in this scenario), he has pretty much every other quality. The guy is incredibly charismatic and quick-witted; he'd be a dream to have in bargaining situations with other roving groups of survivors. Plus he's already traveled all over the world and lived through his fair share of trials. He'll keep a cool head.

If you haven't seen the newest "Man of Steel" trailer, stop what you're doing right now and watch it. I'll wait for you.
Now that you've watched the trailer, I think you'll agree that it's by far the best one released for "Man of Steel." It's epic in scope and has a score that just won't quit. It feels like the modern Superman update we've been waiting for, and it appears to keep the heart of Superman intact. The trailer is also packed with moments worth savoring, so here are 15 moments you gotta see again.
» It looks like Krypton is being torn apart by war in the opening seconds of "Man of Steel." There are explosions, laser blasts, flying spaceships, it's all very intense.
