Hellboy

by Brett White

Fans have been anxiously waiting for a new Hellboy film to follow up 2008's "Hellboy II: The Golden Army." Anticipation has been justifiably increasing, as Marvel's superhero Renaissance has flourished since Hellboy's last trek on-screen and director Guillermo Del Toro has gone on to enjoy a higher profile. But original Hellboy creator Mike Mignola recently stated in an interview with Comic Book Resources that a third film just isn't in the cards.

While trying to explain the comic book "Hellboy In Hell's" numbering scheme, Mignola said, "The biggest problem I see as far as PR for the next billion years is explaining endlessly not only that there's no 'Hellboy 3' movie, but it's going to be explaining 'It's a series, but it's not a monthly series.'

Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Comic book adaptations don't get much more faithful than "Sin City," but the upcoming sequel will take some creative license as it adds an all-new story specifically for the film. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is the man at the heart of that tale, called "The Long Bad Night," and he opened up about the process in an interview at SXSW over the weekend.

"It's interesting. They wanted to have a movie where fans of the books would still be able to look forward to something new and unexpected, so they added a story," the actor told Superhero Hype. "I remember being really intrigued by that and I was really looking forward to, ‘Oh that will be so interesting to have the actual comics to refer to as an actor' but no I didn't."

Kick-Ass

"Kick-Ass 2" is still scheduled to kick some ass this summer — just a bit later than we were hoping for.

Universal has moved the release date for the comic book movie sequel from its original June 28 spot to August 16. That means "Kick-Ass 2" will close out Universal's summer slate, which sounds like a hell of a way to end the summer months to us!

Joseph Gordon-Levitt's part in "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For" has already wrapped, and if he's to be believed, it's going to be awesome. MTV News caught up with the actor on the Oscars red carpet, and he explained what made that set different from any other he's been on.

"Yeah, we shot it already. It went so great," he explained. "Robert Rodriguez is just a delightful human being. He's got so much creativity pouring out of him. He's got a painting studio set up next to where we shoot so that when there's downtime he encourages people to just go paint. How cool is that? So cool."

Beasts of Burden

Shane Acker is returning to the realm of animated film. The "9" director will next tackle the CG animated feature "Beasts of Burden," based on the Dark Horse Comics series of the same name.

Reel FX announced the partnership, and says that "Turbo" scribe Darren Lemke is writing the script for the movie. Evan Dorkin and Jill Thompson wrote the comic books, which tell the story of a group of animals that look into various paranormal events that happen in their Burden Hill neighborhood. Sounds like a story that's right up Acker's alley.

The Dwight McCarthy mystery is officially over. Though the renegade photographer was played by Clive Owen in the first "Sin City," the upcoming sequel features the character with a new likeness, thanks to Josh Brolin. If you weren't convinced that Brolin was the right choice to take over the Dwight role, look no further than two photos Robert Rodriguez posted on his Twitter account over the weekend; it should be all the convincing you need.

sincitybrolin

Here's Rodriguez directing Brolin; how the actor is able to maintain such a badass demeanor with almost nothing physical to react to is beyond my comprehension, and precisely why he's a paid Hollywood star and I'm just a dude with a blog.

Below, you can see what the finished product of the scene will look like:

Stacy Keach

You can add yet another big name to the ever-growing cast of "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For" today: Stacy Keach is officially on board.

The veteran actor, who will be seen later this year in "The Descendants" director Alexander Payne's "Nebraska," has joined the "Sin City" sequel as mob boss Herr Wallenquist, one of the most mysterious bad guys in the "Sin City" universe. He's described by "Sin City" creator and co-director Frank Miller as "the one man who can't be redeemed in Sin City. He is pure evil."

Mind MGMT

Did you know that comic book movie adaptations do well for the most part in theaters? Hollywood certainly does, as the list of graphic novels being brought to the big screen has grown ever longer. This time it's the Matt Kindt series "Mind MGMT" and Guy Delisle's "Pyongyang: A Journey in North Korea" that are getting the adaptation treatment.

First up, Deadline is reporting that Gore Verbinski has signed on to produce and direct an adaptation on "Pyongyang," while "The Pursuit of Happyness" scribe Steve Conrad will pen the script. That graphic novel follows the journey of French animator Delisle as he travels to North Korea to supervise work on an animated film but ends up getting accused of espionage.
