"300" ended with the death of King Leonidas, so when the sequel to Zack Snyder's swords-and-sandals epic finally gets underway, we're going to be in need of a new lead—even if there is a small role for Gerard Butler, should he choose to accept it.
But with or without Butler, "300: Battle of Artemisia" has set its sights on a brand new lead actor: none other than Joel Edgerton, most recently seen in "Warrior" and "The Thing."

Confession time, people: for better or for worse, I really loved "Prison Break."
Yes it was hokey, sure it went on a bit too long, and obviously the Panamanian prison season was completely ridiculous. But if you stuck with the Fox drama for the duration — or even if you only tuned in for the scattered episode here and there — there's no way you can deny the raw power of Robert Knepper as Theodore "T-Bag" Bagwell.
A rabid animal of a man, T-Bag would manipulate and mutilate anyone or anything standing between him and freedom, with only one hand, razor sharp wit and psychosis like you wouldn't believe. The ruthless combination made for a thoroughly deplorable character, yes, but an eminently watchable one as well.
So with my love letter to Mr. Knepper and his fantastic performance as T-Bag out of the way, it gives me great joy to share the news that the "Prison Break" star — who also had a memorable role as villainous tectonic-controlling carnie Samuel on the final season of "Heroes" — has signed on for a part in "R.I.P.D.," the Dark Horse Comics adaptation from "Red" director Robert Schwentke.

Fans of Zack Snyder's gritty, highly stylized slo-mo-tastic "300" have been long awaiting a sequel to the surprise 2006 hit. Thanks to recent reports from producer Bernie Goldmann, it seems that the next chapter, to be directed by Noam Murro, isn't too far off. Goldmann hinted that while the sequel will feature a whole new cast of characters, there might be room for small cameos by "300" stars Gerard Butler and Lena Headey.
When MTV News caught up with Butler during the press day for his upcoming action drama "Machine Gun Preacher," we asked him for his thoughts on the sequel and reprising the role of King Leonidas.
"You know more than I do. I'm like, 'Oh there's a director now?' I've heard that I'm in the script. I've heard things, I've seen things, I've flown off the moon," he joked throwing in a "Blade Runner" reference to throw us off track. "That was my way of avoiding [the question]," he added with a smile.

After a ton of casting news over the past few months and a stop at Fenway Park, it looks like filming for “R.I.P.D” is fully underway in Boston.
New photos were snapped on set yesterday as Ryan Reynolds and Kevin Bacon, two of the film’s stars, stood around an eye-catching Dodge Challenger.

Given the events of "300," it's not a shock to hear that King Leonidas won't be playing much of a role in the developing sequel, "300: Battle of Artemisia." But his days on the battlefield aren't entirely over, it seems.
Speaking with Movies.com, producer Bernie Goldmann revealed that "Battle of Artemisia" will focus largely on a new set of characters and actors, but there are "small parts" for Gerard Butler and Lena Headey, who starred in Zack Snyder's war epic as King Leonidas and Queen Gorgo.
But their presence would be much smaller compared to bigger appearances from new lead actors, many of whom are likely to be played by relative unknowns.

Even though Hurricane Irene was battering the entire East Coast this weekend, Boston Red Sox fans would absolutely not be deterred from taking in a home game at Fenway Park. Also braving the foul weather at the baseball stadium? Early filming for “R.I.P.D.”!
Though the production has long been planned to start filming in Boston, the news that some was already underway came courtesy of the good folks at Collider. One of the site’s viewers was at Fenway Park this weekend and managed to grab a short video of “R.I.P.D.” actors James Hong and Marisa Miller.

A sequel to the 2005 comic adaptation “Sin City” has been in the works for years, but until recently has been plugging along at almost imperceptible speeds. The production seems to be kicking into high gear finally, with the addition of William Monahan, the Oscar-winning writer of “The Departed.”
Just last month at San Diego Comic-Con, Robert Rodriguez explained that legendary cartoonist Frank Miller had recently turned in a draft of the script, and that production was simply pending its approval, which could possibly occur before the end of the year. Now, via The Hollywood Reporter comes news that co-directors Rodriguez and Miller will be gunning for that deadline with Monahan’s help.

An adaptation of the Dark Horse comic book by Peter Lenkov and Lucas Marangon, “R.I.P.D.,” doesn’t have the same clout as an “Avengers” or “Dark Knight Rises.” But what the property lacks in name recognition, it’s making up for in spades with some intriguing casting decisions that most recently include experienced actors James Hong and Mike O’Malley.
R.I.P.D. stands for “Rest in Peace Department,” which Dark Horse’s website describe as “the devoted, yet dead, officers of divine law enforcement ‘patrolling the deadbeat…reporting to one boss.’” Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges are playing the film’s spectral protagonists, but what really has us sitting up and taking notice is who will be portraying their earthly avatars.
In order to be seen on the physical realm, the officers of the R.I.P.D. must take on human form, and that means that the grizzled Bridges’ character will be portrayed on Earth by none other than Victoria’s Secret model Marisa Miller. Now, however, courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter comes news that Reynolds will also have a hilariously mismatched avatar: Veteran character actor James Hong, who will be playing “Grandpa Chen.”

Now that the main characters of “R.I.P.D.” have been cast, it’s up to Universal to fill in secondary and other roles. In the past few days two big names have been added, one of whom is a world-famous super model and the other a well-respected television and movie actress.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Victoria’s Secret super model Marisa Miller has been cast, but it’s unknown yet what role she will play.
Best known of course for her modeling work, Miller has nonetheless done some television cameos, like on “How I Met Your Mother” and “Entourage.” However, this will be her first time acting in a movie.

FROM MTV MOVIES: Librarians, booksellers and English teachers, rejoice: Moviegoers overwhelmingly chose "The Help," adapted from the best-selling novel, over all of the remakes, sequels and reboots in theaters this past weekend.
"The Help" dropped just 21 percent in its second weekend of release, taking in $20.5 million (for a 12-day $71.8 million total) to become the #1 movie in America, according to studio estimates. The heavily promoted "Fright Night" remake, the "Conan" reboot and the latest "Spy Kids" all flopped.
Last week's #1 movie, "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," was in second place this week with $16.3 million. The well-reviewed sci-fi film's $133.8 million total put it past where Tim Burton's critically maligned "Planet of the Apes" remake was during a similar spot in its 2001 theatrical run.
