Tune in to the 2012 MTV Movie Awards

I've been heaping praise on the "DC Showcase" animated shorts for a while now, so it's nice to see that this great little line is finally being collected next week on DVD and Blu-Ray. What's even nicer, however, is that the collection comes with the brand new animated short "Superman/Shazam: The Return Of Black Adam."

During New York Comic Con, I spoke to "Superman/Shazam" writer Michael Jelenic to more info on the project, and now DC and Warner Home Video have provided Splash Page readers with an exclusive clip from "Superman/Shazam" to get you psyched for its November 9 release.

Along with all three previous DC Showcase animated shorts, "Superman/Shazam" features Jerry O’Connell as the voice of Captain Marvel, George Newbern as Superman, Arnold Vosloo ("The Mummy") as Black Adam, and veteran actor James Garner as The Wizard. Read More...

The Walking DeadIt's official: "The Walking Dead" is a hit.

Judging by the buzz today, last night's premiere of "The Walking Dead" on AMC went over well with just about everyone who tuned in for the live-action adaptation of Robert Kirkman's award-winning comic book series. And now the numbers seem to support that success, too.

According to various reports, "The Walking Dead" premiere was viewed by 5.3 million people last night — the largest audience ever for an AMC original series. The pilot episode also managed to pull in 3.6 million adults in the 18-49 age demographic, and became the highest-rated cable series to premiere in 2010. Read More...

The cover for the new issue of Entertainment Weekly reveals Evans as Cap, mask off and shield at the ready. As you can see, his costume design is quite close to the early concept sketches that leaked online earlier this summer. Read More...

The Dark Knight RisesWell, we can stop calling it "Batman 3," as director Christopher Nolan has announced that the title of his third "Batman" film will be "The Dark Knight Rises."

Nolan revealed the title in an interview with Hero Complex, a title that both honors the highly successful comic book adaptation while offering a glimmer of hope with the added word "rises." But even as he elevates optimism in the third "Batman" movie's title, Nolan's shooting down the hopes of fans of the Riddler — according to the director, the puzzling villain will not be featured in "The Dark Knight Rises."

"It won't be the Riddler," said Nolan, effectively pulling the leading villain candidate completely out of the pool. Read More...

Jim Lee IconsFew creators have remained as consistently relevant, revered, and forward-thinking in the comics industry over the last few decades as Jim Lee.

After first breaking into the scene with his celebrated work at Marvel Comics (including co-authorship of the best-selling comic of all time, "X-Men" #1), Lee went on to co-found Image Comics, create his own publishing company, Wildstorm Productions, and eventually sell the company to DC Comics in the late '90s in order to re-focus on his artwork. Most recently, the prolific creator was named co-publisher of DC Comics, and serves as Executive Creative Director for "DC Universe Online," the upcoming online multiplayer game featuring DC's massive cast of characters.

Next week sees the release of "Icons: The DC Comics and Wildstorm Art of Jim Lee," a new hardcover retrospective on the award-winning artist's work with DC and Wildstorm over the years, featuring an extensive collection of art (including some never-before-seen pieces) from Lee's archives. Presented alongside commentary from Lee himself, the art in "Icons" is only part of the project's appeal. Read More...

Incognito: Bad InfluencesIn the 2008-2009 comic book series "Incognito," Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips brought readers the story of Zack Overkill, a former supervillain living in witness protection after he testified against one of the world's most dangerous "science villains."

Told in the same gritty, noir-influenced style as the pair's popular 2003-2004 series "Sleeper" (about a superhero who goes undercover in the super-powered underworld), "Incognito" was picked up for adaptation in April by 20th Century Fox, with Robert Schenkkan ("The Quiet American," HBO's "The Pacific") writing the live-action feature's screenplay. The series will also get a comic book sequel, titled "Incognito: Bad Influences," which kicks off this week.

With the first issue of "Bad Influences" arriving on shelves Wednesday, Brubaker offered up some new details about Zack Overkill's return to action in the comics world, as well as the status of the "Incognito" and "Sleeper" movies. Splash Page readers also get the first peek at some new pages from "Bad Influences," courtesy of Marvel Comics. Read More...

DollhouseEarlier this week, we spoke to "Dollhouse" actress Eliza Dushku about the recent release of the second season of Joss Whedon's over-too-soon Fox series on DVD and Blu-Ray. While we were chatting the actress up about the show, we couldn't help asking for an update on the comics side of the "Dollhouse" universe, too.

In the end, it turns out that there was some confusion all around when it came to "Dollhouse" comics, so today we went straight to the source for clarification on the series' past, present, and future in the comics world: Dark Horse Comics editor Scott Allie.

The main man behind the growing Whedonverse presence at Dark Horse, Allie offered up a complete breakdown of what's out now, what's coming up, and where it all fits in the greater "Dollhouse" mythology. Oh, and it's probably not a spoiler to say that the story is far from over for Whedon's mind-bending house of dolls. Read More...

Louis LeterrierBack when "Incredible Hulk" director Louis Leterrier was bringing "Clash of the Titans" back to the big screen, his name was one of several that came up as potential directors for "The Avengers," Marvel's upcoming superhero team-up extravaganza. While Leterrier himself confirmed that he'd discussed the gig with Marvel, the job ultimately went to another geek-friendly filmmaker, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" creator Joss Whedon.

I spoke to Leterrier recently ahead of his appearance at Long Beach Comic Con on Saturday, October 30, for an afternoon panel alongside fellow French filmmaker Pitof, who directed 2004's "Catwoman" and served as the visual effects supervisor on "Alien: Resurrection."

Along with sharing his thoughts on French filmmakers' attraction to comic book movies, Leterrier offered up some details about his "Avengers" pitch to Marvel Studios, and why he just wouldn't be the right director for certain superheroes' big-screen adventures. Read More...
