The release of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" is less than two months away, so it's no surprise that the Merry Marvel Marketing Machine is shifting into high gear to promote both the film and anything connected with its movie-friendly mutants. Today, a trio of new "Wolverine" movie promo images hit the 'Net, featuring Gambit (Taylor Kitsch), Agent Zero (Daniel Henney) and William Stryker (Danny Huston).

Michael Cera in 'Scott Pilgrim'Quickly becoming one of the next most-anticipated flicks of 2009, “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World” features Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Chris Evans and a half-dozen other Hollywood up-and-comers in an adaptation of the comic book series by Bryan Lee O’Malley. Directed by the one and only Edgar Wright, "Scott Pilgrim" filming is getting underway, cast photos are hitting the 'Net on an almost daily basis, and the breakout star from “Juno” and “Superbad” seems confident that it’s his next big hit.

“I'm excited to do it; definitely excited,” Cera said of the flick, which casts him as a 23-year-old guy who has an eye for Winstead’s Ramona Flowers, but must defeat her seven evil ex-boyfriends with martial art moves in order to win her love and affection. “I love the comics.” Read More...

'Watchmen'One of the complaints often heard when it comes to comic book movies is that, just because a film does wonders at the multiplex, it doesn't necessarily translate into sales of the source material. In other words, "The Dark Knight" has become a billion-dollar box office juggernaut, but when last we checked, sales of "Batman" comics have been on a slow but steady decline at comic shops.

Leave it to the ever-groundbreaking "Watchmen" to buck that trend. Read More...

Sam WorthingtonIt's been a couple of months (translation: "far too long") since we've heard any crazy casting rumors regarding "Batman 3" -- ever since the blogosphere erupted over since-denied reports that Eddie Murphy and Shia LeBeouf were joining the cast back in December. And while most of the recent attention regarding the follow-up to "The Dark Knight" has been focused on whether Christopher Nolan will settle back into the director's chair, the latest online scuttlebutt now questions if Batman himself, Christian Bale, will don the cape and cowl once more.

In a report coming out of Australia's Herald Sun newspaper this morning, unnamed sources claim that Bale's "Terminator Salvation" co-star, Sam Worthington, may indeed be taking on the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne in the next installment of the award-winning Batman franchise. As usual, it's important to remember that when it comes to "Batman 3" casting rumors, nothing is confirmed until Warner Bros. says so, but given Bale's recent Internet infamy, could this speculation have some credibility? 'Welcome to Hoxford'Just when it was starting to seem like superhero stories were the only comics fare making the jump to theaters these days, we brought you the news that writer/artist Ben Templesmith's "Welcome to Hoxford," a dark tale of a doctor and a dangerously unstable patient struggling to survive when werewolves take over a mental hospital, was picked up for a potential big-screen adaptation.

Announced just last week, the rights to adapt "Hoxford" were picked up by producer Chris Columbus and his company, 1492 Entertainment. Even though the project is still in its infancy, I contacted Templesmith to get the scoop on how the deal went down and what level of involvement he's likely to have with the project. Read More...

'Conan'When last we heard from "X-Men: The Last Stand" director Brett Ratner, who had previously denied rumors he was attached to a big-screen "Conan" revamp, he was telling MTV News who he'd like to see take on the "Conan" role made famous by a certain Governor of California.

And for someone who, by his own admission, isn't officially attached to the new project featuring one of US President Barack Obama's all-time favorite comic book characters, Ratner certainly knows quite a bit about the new "Conan" movie -- and it looks like "new" seems to be the key word there. 'Ghost Rider'Just because Marvel Comics' most gallant flaming skull isn't necessarily on the fast track for a sequel doesn't mean Hollywood's completely put "Ghost Rider 2" on the backburner. Nicolas Cage, who's slated to reprise his 2007 "Ghost Rider" role as Johnny Blaze, told MTV News that a writer is currently being sought for the follow-up.

The sequel, which could see the demonic biker battling evil in Europe alongside the Catholic Church is still in its infancy, meaning a director is also needed before flaming tires hit the pavement again. Though Mark Steven Johnson, co-writer and director of "Daredevil" and the first "Ghost Rider" film, seems like a reasonable candidate for either role with the sequel, Cage said nothing's been decided so far.

"Everyone is very busy. I know Mark has his own thing going on," Cage told MTV, "It's up to the studio. It's really in their hands." Read More...

'Justice League of America'"The Dark Knight" was a proven success, both critically and financially. If fan reaction can be believed, Warner Bros. seems to be pushing all the right buttons for an upcoming "Green Lantern" feature film to follow suit. Mention a "Superman" revamp, a "Wonder Woman" casting rumor or the latest scuttlebutt on Marvel's sure-to-be-geekgasmic "Avengers" project, and watch the message boards light up.

Clearly fans want to see what would arguably be the Holy Grail of comic book flicks, "Justice League," but given all of the news lately regarding a possible "JLA" flick being delayed indefinitely, should we even bother getting our hopes up? Attached director George Miller thinks so...just don't hold your breath. Read More...

'X-Men Origins: Wolverine''By now you've seen the final trailer for "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," and if you're anything like us here at Splash Page, one of the main things you noticed (on top of some freakin' insane fight scenes and action) was that there's going to be a lot of mutants showing up in this flick!

While the hardcore Marvel heads among us will no doubt have their own frame-by-frame analysis of the cameos, we've got a quick rundown of the new muties who got some major face time in this latest trailer. We'll spare you the obvious ones -- Wolverine, Sabretooth, Gambit and Deadpool -- and point out some that you might have missed... or had you wondering "Who's that dude that looks like a cross between Kratos from "God of War" and Baraka from "Mortal Kombat?" 'Watchmen'Additional reporting by Larry Carroll

Last week, "Watchmen" director Zack Snyder offered some advice for newcomers to the comic book series that provided source material for his most recent blockbuster (opening today): "Don't read it."

To be fair, he was simply suggesting that those who haven't read Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' celebrated comic book series wait until after seeing his adaptation of the aforementioned story to crack open the cover. For those of you going into Snyder’s film as well-versed “Watchmen” fanatics, however, we also got Zack’s thoughts on the one movie addition that he is most proud of, and the one graphic novel element that he found hardest to cut. (Beware: there are SPOILERS AHEAD!) Read More...
