'Star Trek'"Star Trek" began as a television series, but since then it has invaded all forms of media. There have been countless comic books and numerous tie-ins over the years. And so, with the new "Star Trek" movie beaming into theatres this week, here’s a look at some great reads that Trek fans -- and those new to the franchise's universe -- might want to add to their longbox or book shelf.

COUNTDOWN: This four-issue comic book miniseries was recently released in collected trade format. With a story by "Star Trek" screenwriters Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman, and scripted by Mike Johnson and Tim Jones, "Countdown" reads into the Star Trek universe decades after the point where the TV series “The Next Generation” left off.

Not only that, but this story directly leads into the new movie, giving fan a chance to see the rise of the villain Nero and what dealings he had with heroes such as Spock, Jean-Luc Picard and others. An enjoyable read with interesting revelations. Read More...

DeadpoolIn the comic book universe, Wade Wilson was a hired assassin with his own code of honor and ethics. After being diagnosed with terminal cancer, he volunteered for an experiment that gave him some of the genetic traits of Wolverine. Now, Wade has super-human strength, incredible agility, and an even-more-powerful healing factor that makes him immortal. However, the side effects included hideously scarred skin and a short-circuited brain, turning the sarcastic assassin into a borderline insane, attention-deficient warrior called Deadpool, the “Merc With A Mouth.”

Everyone's seen Ryan Reynolds strut his stuff as Wade in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," and now, as our late-breaking scoop announced yesterday, we'll be seeing him reprise the role in a "Deadpool" solo movie. with plenty of stories out there to show you just what makes Deadpool a fan-favorite character, we've put together a list of some of the highlights from the comic book history of Marvel's mutant mercenary. 'WOLVERINE: RETURN OF THE NATIVE'Although he didn’t join the group until more than 10 years after it was created, the Canadian hero called both “Wolverine” and "Logan" is the most widely known member of the X-Men. Born a mutant, he was gifted with heightened senses, bone claws, and a healing factor that slowed his aging and made him tough to kill. Logan was eventually subjected to an experiment called "Weapon X" that laced his skeleton with adamantium, a metal alloy that made him nearly indestructible. The same experiment apparently wiped out his memories, leaving him haunted by his unknown past.

While comic book readers have been able to piece together the popular character's past over the years, Logan only managed to regain his memories a few years ago. Now, movie audiences will get their own crash course on Wolverine's beginnings in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," which hits theaters this week.

For anyone who enjoys Wolverine stories and wants do some reading before (or after) the film premieres this week, we've compiled a list of must-read stories starring the mutant who's “the best he is at what he does” -- and as you'll learn from the stories below, what he does is provide some great reading!
