X-Men

Excellent news: class is back in session at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters! It will be soon, at least, according to a new report that Matthew Vaughn is officially locked and loaded to direct a sequel to "X-Men: First Class."

Deadline reports that Vaughn and 20th Century Fox have just closed a deal for the "First Class" director to come back for another "X-Men" outing. Simon Kinberg is working on the film's screenplay, as previously reported, and Bryan Singer is once again producing.

No official title or casting news just yet, though we've been lovingly referring to the film as "X-Men: Second Class" for some time now, and it's widely assumed that James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender will be back in business as Professor X and Magneto before long.

Avengers

There's lots of hype to be had for "The Avengers," which mercifully comes out in just a few months. It's hard to wait, though, which is why Marvel Studios is placating our desires with a special Global Twitter Chat to be held tomorrow (January 31) at 11 a.m. (PST).

For thirty minutes, you'll be able to ask questions of writer/director Joss Whedon, as well as cast members Tom Hiddleston (Loki) and Clark Gregg (Agent Coulson), as well as score a bunch of other "Avengers" goodies. (Make sure to ask Hiddleston how he gets Loki's pale sheen juuuuust right. Is it lack of sunlight?)

Spider-Man

There are a lot of advantages you get from living in a big city, like public transportation, food carts, night life, and an intimate familiarity with rats and cockroaches. Now, there's at least one more thing: a special sneak peek event for "The Amazing Spider-Man" for such lucky citizens of Berlin, London, Los Angeles, Madrid, Mexico City, Moscow, New York City, Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Rome, Seoul, Sydney and Tokyo.

Sony Pictures is holding a series of as-yet-undefined events promoting the movie, for which you can sign up at TheUntoldStoryBegins.com. The events will be held in one week on February 6, 2012.

You know what I would really love to see right now? A big ol' new "Avengers" trailer; just filled to the brim with interesting little details and possible hints to the film's plot. I say that not only as a fan, just as excited as anyone to see the movie in May, but also as a writer. So far, almost everything divulged about the film has come from stills, brief interviews, and the occasional rumor – give me something juicy to write about!

Well, it looks like today's no exception to that rule. Marvel has released some official photos, and try as I might, flipping through them really fast doesn't create a video.

Neal

As Dum Dum Dugan, Neal McDonough had a minor but important role in "Captain America: The First Avenger." All he really had to do was stand around cracking wise and looking tough, a part he played to its fullest. "Captain America" ended with Steve Rogers waking up in the present day, so most moviegoers probably figured we wouldn't see Dugan again, as he was previously seen in 1945. But this being the Marvel Universe, it would appear that Dugan may have gotten himself jacked up on all sorts of anti-aging nanomachines that allowed him to survive to see the likes of Justin Bieber and Taco Bell.

Talking to IMDB, McDonough discussed the possibilities for appearances in a "Captain America 2," as well as the long-rumored "Nick Fury" movie.

"Yeah, they’re planning (to go into production for) 'Captain America 2' for the end of this year, because Marvel does one film at a time," he said. "So they’re going to do 'Thor 2' and as soon as 'Thor' has wrapped, they’ll do 'Cap 2.' Hopefully right after that, we’ll jump into 'Nick Fury' because that’s the one I’m looking forward to more than anything."

Avengers

There's no such thing as too much merch, especially when we're talking about comic books.

For the upcoming "Avengers," eFX is set to reveal its list of limited-edition Marvel collectibles to be released in early 2012: a replica Captain America shield, a full-scale Iron Man Mark V mask, Captain America and Thor's mask, and Thor's hammer. They'll be displayed at WonderCon from March 16 to March 18, after which I presume details can be worked out for all of your money.

Hawkeye

We're guessing you'll want this "Avengers" Hawkeye toy, just announced by Marvel Select for preorder. Jeremy Renner's an impressive actor and worthy of adoration, but no one's made it until they've gotten a 7-inch figurine crafted in their appearance. For just $20 (plus tax), you can pay to plop him on top of your computer desk for all of your co-workers to admire.

Great things about the toy, in order.

"Powers," the television adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming's comic book series, has been on a lot of fans' minds lately. FX chief John Landgraf admitted last week that the network has passed on the current version of the "Powers" pilot, and that they're currently considering reshoots. But according to actor Charles S. Dutton, who appears on the show as Captain Cross, an official decision needs to come soon, because contracts are on the cusp of changing.

"Last I heard, without bugging FX, is that they don't know either… but they have to come up with something fast, because on March 1, everybody's deal changes," Dutton told MTV News at the Sundance Film Festival, where he's busy promoting his new movie "LUV" with Common and Michael K. Williams. "If I was a betting man, I would be hedging the bet, because we're getting close to that contract date."
