Avengers Best Fight

by Brett White

Last night's 2013 MTV Movie Awards were an explosive celebration of 2012's films, and that celebration wouldn't be complete without some "Avengers." Luckily Earth's Mightiest Heroes took home a few Golden Buckets for saving the Earth from Loki's invading army in last year's mega-blockbuster, "Marvel's the Avengers." The film took home Best Fight, Best Villain and Movie of the Year, becoming the most awarded film of the night.

"We are humbled to be standing here," said director Joss Whedon while claiming the award for Movie of the Year. "We're not humbled, we won. What's the opposite of humbled? We're Biebered to be standing here." Whedon accepted the award alongside Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson and Tom Hiddleston.

Christian Bale

by Brett White

When Christian Bale gets a nomination for doing shirtless push-ups in a prison-pit, you know you're dealing with the MTV Movie Awards. Bale's Batman joins three other buff dudes (and one teddy bear) in the Best Shirtless Performance category. One thing's for sure, though: Batman's only shirtless because he has a city to save and has to get back into peak physical condition. What about you, Magic Mike? Are you shirtless for such a grand cause? Didn't think so!

To prepare you for this Sunday's MTV Movie Awards, here is Bale's shirtless performance as Bruce Wayne in "The Dark Knight Rises." Don't forget to vote for your favorite and tune in to the 2013 MTV Movie Awards, Sunday April 14th at 9 p.m.

Batman

The 2013 MTV Movie Awards are this Sunday, April 14th. The fate of one category, Best Hero, rests in your social-media-savvy hands. But there isn't much of a choice in this category — at least not according to Splash Page writer Josh Wigler.

What's got two thumbs, a multi-billion-dollar corporation to his name, a secret lair and arsenal of highly sophisticated anti-crime technology, and is the Best Hero of the year?

The answer, unfortunately, is not "this guy," as much as I'd like it to be. Instead, I'm throwing all of my hero worship behind the Batman, easily the most deserving candidate in the Best Hero category at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards.

"Why is Batman the Best Hero," you ask? Really? We have to answer that question? We'll limit ourselves to ten responses, otherwise we would be here all day.

1. He has a Bat Cave and you do not.

Loki

by Brett White

Look out, MTV Movie Awards, because the bad guys are coming! The five vile nominees for Best Villain all dove to new depths of treachery, proving that the best characters are the ones that we love to hate.

Of course three of the five nominees come from superhero films, proving that a hero is only as good as his villain. And boy oh boy, did these three do some damage. The dastardly duo from "The Dark Knight Rises," Miranda Tate (a.k.a. Talia Al Ghul) and Bane, brought Gotham City to its knees through extreme acts of urban warfare. Bane himself physically broke the Batman, a feat never accomplished in film. Over on the Marvel side of things, only one villain proved a big enough threat to warrant the response of six superheroes: Loki, the God of Mischief. Loki's scheming threatened to tear apart the Avengers, and his army of Chitauri aliens made a mess out of Manhattan.

To prepare you for this Sunday's MTV Movie Awards, here are clips showcasing each supervillain at their most evil. Don't forget to vote for your favorite and tune in to the 2013 MTV Movie Awards, Sunday April 14th at 9 p.m.

Iron Man

The 2013 MTV Movie Awards are this Sunday, April 14th. The fate of one category, Best Hero, rests in your social-media-savvy hands. In this heartfelt opinion piece, Splash Page writer Terri Schwartz passionately explains why Iron Man deserves your vote.

When it comes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it's no secret who the most popular Avenger is. Let's give you some hints: his third standalone movie is coming out in less than a month, his two films made more money than the rest of the standalone Marvel movies combined and he's got a sweet collection of armored suits. If you guessed we were talking about Iron Man, than you would be correct.

Of course, Iron Man's coolness comes from more than just the fact he rakes in the big bucks for his mother studio. Tony Stark's also hilarious, has great taste in cars, and what's that phrase he likes to say? Oh yeah, he's a "genius billionaire playboy philanthropist." With that being said, is there really a question about who you should vote to win the MTV Movie Awards Best Hero award?

Iron Man 3

by Brett White

In addition to the spectacular line-up of celebrities and pulse-pounding categories, the 2013 MTV Movie Awards will contain never before seen footage of "Iron Man 3." As the film is still a few weeks away from its release date, the MTV Movie Awards are guaranteeing that you will get your needed dosage of Tony Stark action. To whet your appetite for this weekend's never before seen footage, check out the teaser below. The clip acts as a "greatest hits" montage of all the amazing "Iron Man 3" footage we've seen so far, and features a monologue from the Mandarin (oh, to hear new words said in Ben Kingsley's signature tone) wherein the bad guy gives Iron Man a choice.

Batman Bane

by Brett White

The MTV Movie Awards nominees in the Best Fight category cover a wide range of fisticuffs, from the shootout in "Django Unchained" to the train-hopping brawl in "Skyfall." All five nominees are worthy of praise, and all are deserving entrants into the category.

But two entries in the category managed to up the ante for fight scenes in two very different ways. This being Splash Page, of course we're talking about Batman vs. Bane in "The Dark Knight Rises" and the Avengers vs. Loki and the Chitauri in "Marvel's the Avengers." The former fight was up-close and personal as two physical powerhouses clashed, leaving one of them utterly broken. The latter was quite possibly the most epic all-out war ever captured in a superhero film.

If you need a reminder of just how intense both of these throw downs were, check out the videos below. Don't forget to vote for your favorite and tune in to the 2013 MTV Movie Awards, Sunday April 14th at 9 p.m.

Hulk

The 2013 MTV Movie Awards are this Sunday, April 14th. The fate of one category, Best Hero, rests in your social-media-savvy hands. In this rousing opinion piece, Splash Page writer Eddie Wright passionately explains why Hulk deserves your vote.

Hulk smash. Two words, yet so much meaning. What did the those two words mean for movie-goers in 2012? What exactly did Hulk smash? Why did he smash it? And will he smash it again? Let's take a look at why 2012 was the year of the most deserving nominee for Best Hero at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards, "Marvel's The Avengers'" Hulk.

Last year, Hulk was the black sheep of the Marvel movie universe. Sure, there had been bigger Marvel-based clunkers like "Fantastic Four," "The Punisher," "Ghost Rider," and "Daredevil," but Hulk was part of something bigger. The Hulk was part of the newly streamlined Marvel Studios movie universe. He was a character fully licensed and produced by the very comic company that created him. The Marvel Studios movie universe (or MSMU as no one calls it) was something special after "Iron Man" in 2008. The second Nick Fury showed up after the end credits and told Tony Stark that he was part of a larger world full of super-powered nutbars and costumed weirdos, the Marvel movies began to form into a cohesive whole, structured similarly to their comic book counterparts. And after "Iron Man" set the table by netting nearly $600 million, it was up to the big green guy to smash it to bits with "The Incredible Hulk," the second theatrical Hulk outing following Ang Lee's Freudian freakfest (which I kind of love) "Hulk."

Bruce Banner Tony Stark

Earth's Mightiest Heroes have snagged a few nominations at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards, and Best On-Screen Duo is a well-deserved one. While "Marvel's the Avengers" focused mainly on the best super-sextet in film history, there was one duo that managed to stand out. In the midst of an alien invasion and the clashing of worlds, Iron Man and the Hulk's relationship gave the film a solid, relatable backbone that made even the most skeptical moviegoers stand up and cheer. You can catch Downey Jr. and Ruffalo in action below, and be sure to check out all the other nominees.
