Scarlet Witch Black Panther Quicksilver

by Brett White

The Maximoffs? Who the heck are the Maximoffs? They're the newest addition to the Avengers, according to a rumor currently circling around the "Avengers 2" script. Comic Book Movie has an unnamed source saying that, because of legal reasons, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver may not be able to use their "mutant names" in the Joss Whedon film.

"According to a person within the script writing community, as of right now it is being whispered through the rumor mill that Whedon is not calling the new additions to the Avengers team by their 'mutant names' of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. They are being called Wanda and Pietro Maximoff."

I'm a bit curious about this alleged "script writing community," especially one that apparently counts Joss Whedon as a member, or people close enough to Whedon to have read the surely top secret script. But what's the deal? I mean, sure, as much fun as it's going to be to hear Samuel L. Jackson say "Pietro" and "Wanda" repeatedly, the characters need to have code names if they're going to team up with people called Iron Man and Captain America.

Jeremy Renner

by Brett White

Listen, there are times in a blogger's life when they just don't want to report on a rumor because it hurts too much. When this rumor went up yesterday on Comic Book Movie, I thought I'd just let it slide. But I've now seen this story pop up in a few more places, so no matter how dubious the unnamed source is, I feel an obligation to Splash Page to write this up. Even though it hurts.

The unnamed source states that Hawkeye is due for a major overhaul during Marvel's Phase Two, and it could lead to a diminished role for Jeremy Renner in "Avengers 2" to make room for a set of twins, the character being written out of the franchise completely, being recast for "The Avengers 2," or being recast and involved heavily in the "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." TV show. But how did these rumors even start?

Saoirse Ronan Scarlet Witch

by Brett White

It's worth a mention up top that this seems to be the rumoriest of rumors, but it's about the Avengers and, well, that movie is so highly anticipated that even rumors are worth getting excited about at this point.

Super Hero Hype has heard from an unnamed source that Marvel has started looking for actors to play new additons Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver in "The Avengers 2." Irish actress Saoirse Ronan is said to be the prototypical actress for Scarlet Witch, while Quicksilver's only qualifiers are "euro" and "edgy." Both Joss Whedon and Kevin Feige confirmed the duo's involvement in the sequel, even if the latter tempered expectations by stating that the script is still in the very early stages. But if this rumor has any truth to it, it looks like Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver have a pretty good shot of assembling in 2015.

Invisible Woman

by Brett White

Deadline has a hunch that "Girls" actress Allison Williams is on the short list for the upcoming "Fantastic Four." The site notes that very early talks have begun and... that's really all the news. But any news about this film is news considering how close the new FF film is to its start date (June 17th!) and how there have yet to be any casting announcements (but a few rumors). Actual human beings need to show up on set when the film starts shooting in just over six weeks.

Justice League

Yeah it's just a rumor from a tweet, but I'm still buzzing from the latest "Man of Steel" trailer and I'll take whatever "Justice League" information I can get. Comic Book Movie reports this source as reliable, and fingers crossed that their character judgement is sound, because this sounds pretty great if it pans out.

Dr. Strange

by Eddie Wright

According to a "trusted" but anonymous source for CHUD, Marvel is looking at "Iron Man 2" screenwriter, and all around awesome actor dude Justin Theroux to tie on the red cape and garish garb of the Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Stephen Strange.

Dr. Strange is another Stan Lee/Steve Ditko creation and has been Marvel's resident swinging, psychedelic, mystic, New York Village-dwelling magic man since his first appearance in 1963's "Strange Tales" #110.

Charlie Hunnam

by Brett White

CHUD.com has a hunch that "Sons of Anarchy" and "Pacific Rim" actor Charlie Hunnam may be up for two very different roles from one company of characters. Those two roles? The Flash in "Justice League" and John Constantine in "Justice League Dark." An inside source has told CHUD.com that both director Guillermo Del Toro and Warner Bros. are very interested in working with the actor on approximately one million projects.

The "Justice League Dark" half of the rumor comes from the actor's relationship with director Guillermo Del Toro. Not only are the two paired up in this summer's "Pacific Rim," but they're going at it again in next year's "Crimson Peak." When you factor in the fact that Hunnam is both blonde and British (two things noticeably absent from Keanu Reeves' portrayal of the character in 2005's "Constantine"), it seems like the casting is destined to happen.

Controller

by Brett White

The Marvel news keeps on keepin' on with this latest "Guardians of the Galaxy" rumor. Latino Review has a hunch that Thanos won't be working alone when he starts terrorizing our heroes at some point during Phase Two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The latest Marvel movie rumor (in a day full of 'em) is that the Controller will be serving as Thanos' main henchman and ambassador in 2014's "Guardians of the Galaxy."

Inhumans

by Brett White

Comic Book Movie has reported a rumor circulated by Bleeding Cool earlier this week. There is a separate , more spoilery rumor about "Iron Man 3" at the top of the Comic Book Movie article that I wish I hadn't stumbled across, but what are ya gonna do? Both articles basically state that the Inhumans could be the next unexpected corner of the Marvel Universe to get the "Guardians of the Galaxy" treatment, meaning that the group is most likely getting a new ongoing series that could lead into a motion picture in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The comic book half of this rumor isn't that unfounded. Writer Jonathan Hickman has mentioned that the Inhumans will play a pivotal role in his mini-series "Infinity," which starts this August. That seems like the perfect launching point for an Inhumans comic book, which will reportedly be written by Matt Fraction (current writer of "Fantastic Four," "FF" and "Hawkeye"). The "Game of Thrones" mention is a reference to the different houses that will supposedly make up the new status quo. There'll be a House of Medusa and a House of Maximus, and possibly houses for other members of the Inhumans Royal Family.

Noel Fisher

by Brett White

Two of Fox's Marvel franchises have been churning out buzzworthy news items for a while now, but the "Fantastic Four" reboot has yet to receive as much attention as "X-Men: Days of Future Past" and "The Wolverine." Of course, "Fantastic Four" isn't slated for release until 2015, so that's understandable. But hot on the heels of being cast in the next "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" film, it's now rumored that Noel Fisher has another reboot on the horizon.

Deadline broke the news of Fisher being cast as Michaelangelo, but how does Fisher factor into the FF? Former Variety staffer Jeff Sneider tweeted after the "TMNT" news broke that the nunchuk-twirlin' turtle isn't the only role in Fisher's future.
