As one of the fastest rising stars in Hollywood, Idris Elba has now starred in his fair share of superhero movies. "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance" marks Elba's second turn as a supporting character in the Marvel Universe.

With "Prometheus" and Guillermo del Toro's "Pacific Rim" on the horizon for Elba, a lead role in a superhero film doesn't seem that far off for the British actor. When he spoke with MTV News recently, he said he was open to the idea, but it would require the right character.

"I like seeing the films. Acting in them is a different thing," Elba said. "For me, I prefer the superhero that has issues, flawed. They're all flawed some way, but ones that don't mind to examine. Batman's an amazing franchise. That character has so much to explore. Ghost Rider is similar in that sense. He's a weird man that has a lot of stuff going on."

But if a character like the one Elba described did happen to come along, it's one that he'd be willing to suit up for. "I'd like to, if the right project comes along and I'm not doing it for the sake of it," he said. "I'll do a superhero character as the lead if there's some real story attached to it, some real character stuff."

One of the names that has been batted about in connection to Elba has been the hero for hire, Luke Cage. "Someone like Luke Cage, someone who's a normal man that has an extraordinary ability, I think that works for me," Elba said. "I think that could get pretty dark and pretty sexy."

But before any of that can happen, Elba will return to reprise the role of Heimdall in "Thor 2." As for where the series may go once the prince of Asgard returns from "The Avengers," Elba isn't so sure. "I'm actually completely in the dark as to where they're going to go with it," he said. "The rainbow bridge isn't there though. We know that much."

by Ryan Rigley

Oliver Queen may not have the most extensive or colorful rogues gallery like some other well known DC heroes, but the emerald archer has been known to take on a number of foes from all across the DC Universe since his first appearance back in 1941. Whether they be Superman villains, Flash villains, or yes, even Batman villains, the Green Arrow never backs down from a fight. Which is truly admirable, considering that his only real "power" is being very good at archery.

The CW's "Smallville" was great in that it came jam-packed with special cameos from various well-known heroes and villains. We got to see a huge number of fan favorites, including but not limited to: Bizarro, Doomsday, Braniac, and even Oliver Queen himself! Here's hoping that they give the upcoming "Arrow" series gets a similar treatment.

Keep reading for six of the villains that we'd like to see on the show.

» Merlyn: This world reknowned archer was actually the inspiration for Oliver Queen to take up archery back when he was but a young man. Years later, the two came into direct conflict when Merlyn picked up a contract to assassinate Batman. Fortunately, Oliver was able to intercept Merlyn's arrow with one of his own, saving Batman's life and proving that he is and will always be the better archer. They have been rivals ever since -- and seeing as there's a Merlyn character remaining to be cast for the pilot, it appears that their rivalry will continue on the small screen.

» Count Vertigo: Born with a hereditary inner ear defect, Count Werner Vertigo installed a small electronic device in his right temple helping to keep him balanced. Soon, he discovered that the device allowed him to distort other people's balance perception as well. With this "Vertigo Effect," the Count turned to a life of crime using his newfound powers to disrupt and disorient anyone foolish enough to stand in his way. Also, he wears magnetic boots that enable him to walk up walls!

» Onomatopoeia: Very little is known about this mysterious masked man, other than the fact that he says sound effects out loud. For example, if he's shooting a gun he'll say "BANG!" and if he's hitting someone with a wooden plank he'll say "Thwack." Kevin Smith, the character's creator, has been pretty outright about his hesitance to see Onomatopoeia cinematically. But we think it's definitely worth a try!

» Prometheus: Like Green Arrow, Prometheus has no superhuman abilities. However, he does have a wide array of weapons and technology at his disposal. What makes Prometheus such a threat is his unique battlesuit and helmet that comes complete with an artificial Intelligence that can quickly calculate a number of tactics and countermeasures, allowing him to take down multiple targets simultaneously. He once single-handedly defeated most of the Justice League.

» Dr. Light: Arthur Light, a former criminal psychiatrist, has the power to manipulate light in any shape or form. He can turn invisible, create force fields, shoot energy blasts, and fly, amongst other things. Best known for his controversial role in 2004's "Identity Crisis," Dr. Light isn't just a supervillain, but also an admitted serial rapist. Few things are scarier than a rapist with super powers.

» Deathstroke: Slade Wilson is hands down the best assassin in the DC universe. With his enhanced strength, speed, stamina and reflexes, Slade is a formidable foe for even the likes of Batman. Having an extensive background in military combat, Deathstroke is a tactical genius that thrives in the heat of battle. His superhuman healing factor enables him to recover from injuries that would prove fatal to others, making Slade nearly impossible to kill.

When you put the likes of Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk and more onto the big-screen altogether, the results are bound to be explosive. Thankfully, from the look and sound of it, "Marvel's The Avengers" won't disappoint in that regard.

"There's nothing small in this movie," effects supervisor Chris Wells told Starburst Magazine about "The Avengers" in a new interview. "I went to a screening with all the temporary visual effects and it was pretty fleshed out. It's a long movie but it doesn't feel like it. Out of all the comic book movies and franchises I've worked on, this is the best one I've seen so far."

Wells also briefly described the film's opening sequence, "what essentially boils down to the prelude," as he described it. "There's a whole intro that happens before you start even getting the titles and it's pretty big."

Something Loki-centric, perhaps? It won't involve Red Skull, unfortunately, as Wells confirmed that the German supervillain is not in "Avengers" as was once rumored.

"I promise you it's not going to be boring," he assured. "This thing has gone so big that Marvel are dwarfing their other franchises. For people who enjoy the comics and haven't really liked the way some of the characters were treated in other movies, I think they're going to be a little more appeased by this one. Especially the Hulk. They let the Hulk be Hulk and that's great. He acts more like the comic book Hulk. It's fun. My biggest problem with every single superhero movie is I don't think the payoff ever matches the build up. This one definitely does."

Do Wells' words make you more excited about this one? Let us know your "Avengers" hopes and fears in the comments section and on Twitter!

Swifter than an arrow, The CW is speeding through the casting process on its upcoming Green Arrow pilot. Two new actors have joined the fray now, bringing the current cast list up to five names.

TV Line reports that "Melrose Place" alum Katie Cassidy has scored the role of Dinah "Laurel" Lance — the woman who goes on to become Black Canary — in the pilot. Additionally, Deadline adds that "The O.C." veteran Willa Holland has joined the show as Oliver Queen's younger sister Thea.

Details about both characters beyond the jump.

Original character breakdowns described Dinah as follows:

"28 years old, smart sexy, Laurel is a legal aid attorney determined to use her life as a one-woman war against the 1% following the death of her younger sister Sara. A sister, who as luck would have it, just so happened to have died aboard Oliver’s yacht."

As for Thea:

"Oliver’s Lolita-esque sister, Thea was a 12 year old girl when he went on his infamous yachting voyage — but now she’s a celebutante who’s testing the boundaries of acceptable behavior. Thea loved her big brother with all her heart, and is delighted to have him back in her life — but she’s spreading her wings, and is unprepared for Oliver to become the Bad Cop in the family, restricting her access to boys and drugs."

Stephen Amell, David Ramsey and Susanna Thompson round out the "Arrow" cast.

"Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance" owes much of its mad power to the forces of Nicolas Cage as Johnny Blaze and Johnny Whitworth as Ray "Blackout" Carrigan. But there are a few other folks in place who make this "Ghost Rider" sequel stand out from the pack, namely Idris Elba as spiritual warrior Moreau.

Boiling it down, Moreau is a French alcoholic warrior monk. Quick with a quip and rarely seen without a gun or a jug of wine in his hand, Moreau brings much of the film's laughs, some of its more powerful dramatic moments, and plenty of badass fight scenes as well.

MTV News spoke with Elba at the "Ghost Rider" junket to learn more about his character.

"Moreau is a troubled man," said Elba. "He's a priest, or a monk if you like. A religious man. His heart is good, but he's kind of fallen off the rails. But he's the go to guy to find people who don't want to be found. He's that guy."

In this case, Moreau is tasked with finding the unfindable Blaze, a mission he succeeds in quite early on in "Spirit of Vengeance."

"Moreau speaks to Johnny Blaze and [tries to] get him to revoke [the spirit of vengeance]," said Elba. "It was good fun for me to play. He's charismatic, but at the same time, the central storyline between me and Nic is very real."

What do you think of Elba's thoughts on Moreau? Tell us in the comments section or hit us up on Twitter!

If I had my way, we "X-Men: First Class" fans would be getting a sequel this summer. Or this week, for that matter. Unfortunately I don't get my way and we're going to have to wait awhile for a few of the most in-demand actors in the business right now to get some free time to suit-up again. Also there is the matter of needing a script from which to work.

MTV News recently caught up with the sequel's screenwriter Simon Kinberg at the premiere of his latest film, "This Means War," where we discussed his plans for Magneto, Xavier and the rest.

"I don’t know what the title is going to be but certainly I’m working on the sequel to 'X-Men: First Class' right now," Kinberg said. "I’m going to be writing and producing it, I’m starting now, with Matthew Vaughn directing."

When asked about what he enjoys most about incorporating so many characters into the story, Kinberg first emphasized his fanboy-ness, along with excitement to further explore the many layers of Magneto and Charles Xavier.

"I’m a huge X-Men fan. I grew up loving the comic books and it was really exciting to be able to do the origin story of Xavier and Magneto, and getting those two actors, [James] McAvoy and [Michael] Fassbender, were really amazing," he said. "So being able to explore those characters with actors of that quality will be exciting a second time around, and doing some things unexpected with those characters, which is the plan."

Kinberg went on to say that while they're still in the early stages of story-planning, the second film will likely involve a lot more Magneto.

"That’s what was so cool about the first one and what we want to continue," Kinberg said of exploring the supervillain's tortured beginnings. "Magneto becomes the villain ultimately of the franchise but he’s a much more complicated character as a young man. He’s someone you sympathize with, you care about you root for even though might not necessarily agree with his methods, you understand his philosophy."

So with the sequel will Magneto still be bridging the gap between good and bad or will he be a full-on villain?

"We’re still figuring that out. I think the truth is ultimately that because Michael is such an interesting actor, he’ll never be full-on anything. He’ll have a villainous side and he’ll have a sympathetic human side you’ll be able to relate but you’ll also be afraid of him. He becomes Magneto, he says 'Call me Magneto' at the end of the first movie."

How's this for a frightening thought: Nicolas Cage was almost Scarecrow in a Batman movie.

Of course, the role of psychotic psychiatrist Jonathan Crane eventually went to Cillian Murphy in Christopher Nolan's "Batman Begins." But well before that, the once and future "Ghost Rider" star was approached to stuff himself full of straw for Joel Schumacher's planned trip to Gotham in "Batman Triumphant," which would have been the director's third dance with the Dark Knight.

"He said he was going to do another installment of 'Batman' and that he'd like me to play Scarecrow, which would have been a lot of fun," he told MTV News at the "Ghost Rider" junket about being approached for the role. "I must admit [it would have been fun], especially with Joel, because he and I share a similar sense of humor."

Of course, it was not meant to be, and the Batman movies took a different turn. No worries for Cage, though. The notorious comic book fan has had plenty of other opportunities to take his fanboy urges out on the "Ghost Rider" franchise, as he once again assumes the role of Johnny Blaze with this weekend's "Spirit of Vengeance."

"I think, unfortunately, we are living in dark times," he said of the current state of comic book movies. "Sometimes in the zeitgeist you need heroes that can reflect that, so Ghost Rider is perfect for that … What they are is no different than ancient Greek myths or Nordic mythology or Grimm's fairy tales. They give people kind of a young identity to embrace themselves to help them get through life."

This morning, Variety reported that the long-in-development "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" reboot has finally found a director in Jonathan Liebesman, the man responsible for "Battle: Los Angeles." Frankly, I think we're in trouble here. The more I'm hearing about this project, the less it's sounding like the Turtles I know.

This is the last thing I want to see, so I've devised a series of measures that need to be followed closely in order to save the next TMNT. With strict adherence and a little luck, all may not be lost.

Seek New Direction
It's not a good sign when the number one way to properly do a reboot is to fire the newly hired director. But based on the gritty "Battle: LA," it isn't hard to imagine that Liebesman will "modernize" the Turtles to a point beyond recognition. Everything we've seen from his previous work can only lead us to believe that his TMNT will be an over-the-top CGI fest. That's not the Turtles we grew up with. That's exactly why they need to…

Keep It Lo-Fi
The original live action adaptations of the Turtles cartoon and comics worked because of the movie magic from Jim Henson's Creature Shop. The green suits and animatronic heads might not get a pass by today's standards, but the idea behind them still stands. The Turtles in the first three movies were physical and tangible. The original report in Variety about Liebesman coming aboard didn't mention how the Turtles will appear, but CGI characters in a live-action setting is the assumption. With this solution, you lose believability in one of the film's main aspects.

Focus on the Martial Arts
It's in the name: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. If the fighting isn't up to snuff, people won't care about any Turtles movie. CGI Turtles fighting live-action enemies will seem even more unbelievable than the concept already makes it. Liebesman's resume doesn't inspire much confidence in his ability to direct action in the coherent way fight choreography requires. When it comes to the Turtles, fighting comes before everything else except…

The Banter
Without the pithy wordplay, the Turtles are just like every other reptilian martial arts expert. Leonardo leads. Donatello does machines. Raph is cool but rude. Michelangelo is the party dude. It's a very careful formula that has proven successful for decades. No banter would turn the characters into slightly odd, boring action heroes.

Shredder
To make this a true reboot, explore the origin story and make Shredder the main villain. He is the classic Turtles villain, and no one else deserves the bad guy role in what's hopefully the first of many movies. You can save Krang for the sequels, but make sure you get to him. Shredder needs to be there at the very beginning, trying to kill the Turtles for whatever reason he's always had.

Star City is becoming quite the popular destination these days as casting continues to heat up for "Arrow," The CW's television adaptation of DC Comics' "Green Arrow" franchise.

We already know Stephen Amell has been cast as the titular emerald archer, and "Dexter" alum David Ramsey has also come on board as ex-military operative and Oliver's security expert John Diggle. Now, TV Line reports that "Once And Again" actress Susanna Thompson has joined the cast as Moira Queen, mother of Oliver.

In the initial cast breakdowns for Moira, Oliver's mother is described as follows:

48 years old, a beautiful woman, Oliver’s mother Moira is a very wealthy woman who is not used to being shaken. Having remarried during the five years that former husband Robert and Oliver were both presumed dead, Moira has had free rein over the Queen billions. Not surprisingly, she’s deeply interested in learning whether or not Robert will also return unexpectedly, to ruin her present marriage and go over the books with a fine-tooth comb.

With Thompson, Amell and Ramsey in place, there are still three central roles left to be cast for the pilot. Those characters include comic book favorites Dinah "Laurel" Lance (alias Black Canary) and Tommy Merlyn, Oliver's eventual arrow-slinging nemesis.

The set-up for "Arrow" has been described as follows: "After being marooned for five years on a deserted island, former billionaire playboy Oliver Queen returns with a mysterious agenda and lethal set of new skills that he uses in a war on crime."

About a year ago, I ventured to San Francisco to check out Telltale Games' new title announcements. Sure, there was a "Jurassic Park" game and a "Fables" game (which we'll hopefully hear more about soon), but what I really wanted to see was the studio's "Walking Dead" adaptation.

Sadly, there was little in the way of eye-candy that night, and since then, news about the "Walking Dead" game has trickled out at a slow pace. Good news, though – it looks like the information drought is coming to an end. Not only are there three new screenshots of the game, but TellTale has also posted a lengthy talk-show-style video with the adaptation's writing team.

Somewhat similar to the format of AMC's "Walking Dead" talk-show, "Talking Dead," TellTale will continue to produce the "Playing Dead" (are you sensing a theme, here?) video series to give fans a behind-the-scenes look at the game's production. The series will have nine episodes, and you can watch the first one right here.

If you're behind on "Walking Dead" game news, the first thing to understand is the game treats the comics as canon. As a huge fan of the books – and sometimes frustrated fan of the AMC show – TellTale's decision to pen a parallel story to the source material is a huge relief. The events of the game take place while Rick Grimes is still laying in a coma, introducing new characters and a few familiar faces in what essentially amounts to a prequel. The game's visuals are inspired by the comic artwork of Charlie Adlard.

"Collaborating with TellTale on "The Walking Dead" continues to be a fantastic process," said series creator Robert Kirkman, via today's press release. "They understand the world and characters that I created and what it takes to make a game out of them. What's really exciting is that they're telling a new story with new characters, so you'll get to see that same world Rick Grimes did, but from a different point of view."

So far, in regards to characters, we know that the game focuses on the trials of a man named Lee as he confronts a zombie-filled world with a little girl named Clementine by his side. Hershel and Glenn, series standards, also make an appearance.

The five-part episodic game is due out this spring on Steam, Xbox Live, and PlayStation Network.
