Tune in to the 2012 MTV Movie Awards

Well, this weekend will more or less officially kick off the summer movie bonanza of 2012. I'm referring to "The Avengers," of course, which you're surely aware of thanks to the ever-present marketing onslaught. But what are you going to do while waiting in line to get your tickets for the very first show this Friday night? How about some conveniently-timed Marvel iOS and Android games!

Yes, where there are licensed properties, there are even more licensed tie-ins sure to follow. While you could probably grab some boring souvenir cup from a gas station, video games are way more fun (although admittedly contain less delicious soda). Luckily, a few Marvel games are on sale this week in preparation of Joss Whedon's superhero film.

If you're a sucker for flashy event films loosely based on Greek history/mythology like I am, you are hopefully still excited about the upcoming "300" prequel/spinoff-type movie, "300: Battle of Artemisia." Sure there have been changes in cast and directors and whatnot, but original Xerxes is involved (Rodrigo Santoro) and the titular character Artemisia will be owned by scene-stealer Eva Green. What's not to like?

MTV News recently caught up with Green where we asked her for a little intel about the character who, we came to find out, is based on a woman - not a goddess - who actually lived, and kicked ass.

"Oh yeah, I’m playing Artemisia. She really existed actually," Green revealed during the press day for her upcoming film "Dark Shadows." "She was commander on a boat, of a whole Armada."

Longtime fans of both Nick Fury and Samuel L. Jackson should be especially excited to see the character more fully fleshed out than ever before in "Marvel's The Avengers" this weekend.

Jackson has been teasing us with his well-placed cameos in prior Marvel movies like "Iron Man," "Thor" and "Captain America," but "Avengers" finally brings Nick Fury front and center. When MTV News caught up with Jackson recently, we asked him what we learn about Fury specifically in this film.

"We do know that his organization is a real organization," Jackson said. "His paranoia [about a real threat to national/global security] is not paranoia but a real founded fear."

Amazing Spider-Man Poster

"The Amazing Spider-Man" is a little more than two months away, and at this point, we have enough posters and international trailers to last us a lifetime.

The two newest prints show a Spidey that's taken a bit of a beating, most likely by a big green monster known as the Lizard. Heard of him? Spider-Man probably familiarized himself with his reptilian foe when he took two swipes at the hero's chest.

Hulk

Most early reviews of "The Avengers" are celebrating the Marvel crossover film as a triumph, and everyone seems to be in agreement that Mark Ruffalo's take on The Hulk has finally nailed down the gamma-radiated favorite.

Naturally in the wake of Ruffalo's success, talk went straight to a new standalone Hulk movie, but when the Huffington Post talked with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, a new Hulk movie did not seem likely.

"This was the third appearance of Hulk and everything that we had and were going for, we put in to Hulk's appearance in 'Avengers,'" Feige said. "So, I love that people are saying that and are feeling that way about Hulk, but mission accomplished at this point."

"Rascal Raccoon's Raging Revenge" is headed to Warner Bros.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that the studio has snapped the rights to Oni Press' graphic novel and already has a writer and director lined up. "Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son" scribe Matt Fogel is attached to adapt the story, while "A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas's" Todd Strauss-Schulson is set to direct.

It's somewhat fitting for "Rascal Raccoon" to end up at Warner Bros since the story is a sort of spin on their classic "Looney Tunes" cartoons. The plan is to have the film be a live-action/CGI hybrid.

Say what you will about DC's plans for the "Watchmen" prequel, "Before Watchmen." Be it a pro or anti-prequel stance, there is undeniable interest in the project, which will supposedly include seven different miniseries starring popular characters from Rorschach to Doctor Manhattan.

MTV News recently caught up with Jackie Earle Haley to see what he thinks about this new spin/perspective on classic characters.

"They're working on a new book right? I don't know that they'd ever make a movie from that. I haven't even really thought about that," Haley said when asked if he'd be game for re-visiting the character during the press day for his latest film, "Dark Shadows." "I just kind of heard about that. I'd certainly love to read that book and see what they did."

The Avengers

Marvel has released a whole slew of clips from "The Avengers," and one of the coolest showed Thor and Iron Man beating the crap out of each other in the middle of a forest. There's not much context to the scene (though to be fair we don't need much context to enjoy the hell out of it), but director Joss Whedon has decided to step up and give a little backstory to the scene.

In a new clip posted over at Yahoo! Movies (which you can watch after the jump), Whedon explains that there was a lot of thought put into trying to find a way to have his Avengers beat each other up without having it seem forced. As you can see from this clip, he succeeds.

"For me the most important thing was that -- in that fight -- both of them had an agenda that conflicted with the others,'" Whedon said. "That it wasn’t a spell or a case of mistaken identity or something that you're just waiting for them to figure it out. They both really think they need to win and neither of them is totally wrong, and that makes it more than a fight, it makes it a conflict."

No other film adaptation of a Marvel character has been as widely criticized as The Hulk. Eric Bana's and Edward Norton's portrayals of the green monster with an uncontrollable temper left the comic fan base less than satisfied. But now a new Hulk is taking over the big screen. Owning the role in "Marvel's The Avengers" is Mark Ruffalo, who told MTV News at the Tribeca Film Festival that stepping into the character is "very daunting."

"I've never had a part so harshly reviewed before I even shot a single frame of film," the actor revealed. "The fanboys had a lot to say about it — granted, they had a great deal of care about this part and a lot of sentimentality about it, as do I, growing up on it. There have been other great performances as Banner."

What gave his rendition of Hulk the added advantage over Bana's and Norton's performances is today's technological advances. "The only real edge that I had was that the technology had changed so much since that last movie that I actually got to play the Hulk."
