Tune in to the 2012 MTV Movie Awards

by Joel Hanek

With a little less than a month to go before it's official theatrical release, "The Avengers" premiered earlier this week to rave reviews. While Splash Page Editor Josh Wigler is convinced this is the Marvel movie we have all been waiting for, fellow "Talk Nerdy" panelists Brian Phares and Eric Ditzian still have their reservations about Whedon's envision. Remember, your boo's and hiss's at Eric and Brian work better if they're done in unison.

And while "Avengers" is predicted to make an obscene amount of money at the box office, "The Hunger Games" already has proven to be the movie to beat at the box office this year. Even so, the surprising departure of director Gary Ross from the series has shocked many fans. The resident "Nerds" discuss what this means for the series—but more importantly, allows us to revisit our dream-director wish list. I’m personally voting for Wes Anderson.

Sharlto Copley

There have been many people up for the role of the villain in Spike Lee's upcoming remake of "Oldboy." First Colin Firth and then Clive Owen were offered the part, but they both ultimately turned it down. We've speculated a lot about who we think would be right for the part, but it turns out Lee has someone even better in mind: Sharlto Copley.

Variety is reporting that the "District 9" star is the latest actor to be offered the role in the film. It seems like a great pairing, and we're intrigued by the idea of Copley facing off against Josh Brolin on the big screen. But if we've learned anything about the casting process for "Oldboy" it's that we shouldn't get our hopes up until news is confirmed.

What happens when you take TV shows like "House" and "Fringe," get them really drunk, lock them in a room together, and blast some of Barry White's greatest hits? We'll give you a hint. It begins with "Witch" and ends with "Doctor." Still can't figure it out? From the demented mind of Brandon Seifert, "Witch Doctor" is the most awesome medical horror comic to date. (In fact, "Witch Doctor" might be the only medical horror comic to date.)

With a unique combination of spine-tingling terror and medical drama, there's no doubt that "Witch Doctor" would be an immensely successful TV show. If people love shows like "Nurse Jackie" and "True Blood," then odds are they'll enjoy a show that seamlessly smashes the two of them together.

"Witch Doctor" also happens to be the first official title published by Skybound Entertainment, "Walking Dead" creator Robert Kirkman's imprint through Image Comics. And given all of the success in TV adaptations that Kirkman has seen recently, we think there's a good chance that a "Witch Doctor" TV show could be an instant hit.

The Avengers

"The Avengers" wowed everyone who saw it during its world premiere Wednesday night, and it seems as though the long anticipated ensemble Marvel superhero flick will actually live up to the hype. Sin City

This week, we got the welcome news that Robert Rodriguez will maybe finally start filming the long-awaited "Sin City 2" this coming summer.

One of the things we know for sure is that Frank Miller has written new stories for the next movie, and a great thing about the world is that basically anyone can show up at any time. That means that even the smallest character could play a big role in the next film. Hell, the character might even be dead. It doesn't matter. Miller certainly doesn't care.

In honor of the news, we've compiled a wish list of supporting characters from the 2005 "Sin City" that we'd like to see play a bigger role in the next movie.

Thor Chris Hemsworth

This Friday, Chris Hemsworth has a movie coming out. That movie would be the insanely hyped horror film, "The Cabin in the Woods." Three weeks from now, he has another movie coming out. That movie would be the insanely hyped superhero film, "The Avengers."

Oh, you've heard of them? So it should be really easy to explain to you why Hemsworth is our Hero of the Week.

It started with "Thor," arguably the film in Marvel's first cycle of movies that had the steepest hill to climb when it came to winning over fans. Thor was by far the most mythical and fantasy-based character of the heroes, and he was played by the least well-known actor of the bunch. Hemsworth's most notable role until that point had been his brief appearance in J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" as Kirk's father, George. Who was this guy? Could he eventually stand next to Robert Downey, Jr. and Chris Evans in "The Avengers"?

The answer was "Yes, and shut up."

When working with such a large number of talented actors in "The Avengers," choosing a favorite to interact with would have to be difficult for Samuel L. Jackson.

MTV News spoke with the actor on the red carpet premiere for the superhero meet-up, and Jackson said he had fun hamming it up with the bad guy. "I spend the most time talking to Cobie [Smulders] and Coulson (Clark Gregg), I enjoy," he said. "I had a really good time hanging out with Loki, actually. We had some good scenes together."

After five movies spent mostly showing up after the end credits, Jackson's character Nick Fury finally gets his due. The first batch of Marvel movies involved Fury rounding everyone available superhero up for something he called the Avengers Initiative. Part of what Jackson enjoyed so much about the newest film was that his intentions and the motivation behind Fury were finally explored.

"Violence will befall children in this game, without a doubt."

Sean Vanaman, lead designer and writer on TellTale's upcoming "Walking Dead" game, is in the car on route to work when I call him up. He's easy-going – the kind of guy you actually look forward to interviewing, because his genuine enthusiasm for the project shines through every response. As he drove, we talked about the San Francisco-based studio's attention to Robert Kirkman's canon, the thought process behind the game's original story, and the team's straightforward approach to a world where extreme violence is the norm.

"The Walking Dead" wasn't always destined for life outside the inked page.

There was a time – years ago, now – when Robert Kirkman seemed adamant in keeping his then fledgling zombie apocalypse series solely in the realm of comic books. Of course, it's hard to know whether or not he could have foreseen the property's eventual fame, the series now well-known everywhere, thanks to an AMC television adaptation. This month, "Walking Dead" receives the episodic videogame treatment from TellTale.

When you think of "Sabrina the Teenage Witch," does the word "superhero" ever cross your mind? We didn't think so. Witch, magic, Aunt Hilda, her talking cat, Salem? Of course! But superhero? Never. Well, that's all about to change.

Sony Pictures is giving "Sabrina" a superhero makeover, Deadline reports (talk about secret identity). What started as a comic from Archie Comics and evolved into a hit seven season TV series is now being turned into a live action film. The story will follow Sabrina as a young girl as she navigates life with her supernatural powers. Deadline describes the film as "edgier" and says Salem will still play a big role in the movie, but this time as a prince who was transformed into the black cat. For all you romantics out there, it looks like Salem will not only be her confidant, but love interest as well.
