A sequel to “300” is ludicrous, unwarranted, impossible—and perhaps somewhat brilliant. Which is why everyone from Frank Miller to Zack Snyder toMark Canton avoid killing the proposed sequel, but nonetheless insist that if Miller can make it work, they’re in. Now, count in another co-collaborator: King Leonidas.
“I had an incredible time doing the first one, and I think that if the first one was a stand-alone, as a one-off, there’s no bad thing in that,” explained Gerard Butler when we caught up with him recently, saying he’d be willing to bring his character back to life—even if it meant re-animating arguably the most dead person in movie history (remember all those spears?). “But, you know, let’s see what it might bring forward with a second one.” Read more...
Now that “300” is coming out with a super-duper, bells-and-whistles “Complete Experience” Blu-Ray disc on the 21st, it’s had me thinking about the first few times I saw the movie. Like many, I went in not knowing what to expect and came out in awe of Zack Snyder’s flick. And, like many, I’m a bit nervous about the news that Snyder, Frank Miller and their team are willing to revisit the Spartans -- but hoping I’ll once again be awestruck.
“Frank’s working on something,” revealed producer Mark Canton when I caught up with him recently, telling me that he’s onboard to return for Snyder’s “300” sequel. “That, Zack has said.” Read more...
In addition to writing a few new "Sin City" stories for "Sin City 2," Frank Miller is also hard at work on a new tale for the sequel to "300."
Director Zack Snyder teased in an April MTV interview that there was a way to continue the franchise, and Miller previously claimed that he would set his new script after "300" during the Greco-Persian Wars and featuring "some of the same characters." Now, Snyder indicates that Miller may be moving along and re-visiting Greece to do research as he completes the graphic novel that will become the "300" sequel. Read more...
Back in the day, when I sat down with my big box of Lego building blocks, I never ended up assembling anything that was even close to as cool as some of the stuff I've seen around the 'Net. From zombie invasions to scenes from H.P. Lovecraft stories, the products of skilled Lego craftspeople aren't difficult to find around the InterWebs -- but every now and then a great gallery pops up that really makes me feel like I wasted valuable Lego playtime years ago.
Over at design website SpeckyBoy, there's a gallery of 21 popular movie posters re-created using Lego building blocks. While the "Inglourious Basterds" and "Jaws" re-creations are particularly cool, it's the Lego "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" and "300" movie posters that really caught my eye. Read more...
Things are about to get hectic for Scott Mednick. The former "Superman Returns" and "300" executive producer recently announced his involvement in the upcoming "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" live-action movie and says he'll soon be busy producing another major franchise as well. However, one thing Mednick says he won't be doing anytime soon is taking another crack at rebooting the Superman movie franchise. Of course, that doesn't mean he doesn't have an idea or two about who should.
"Bryan Singer is, as we all know from 'X-Men' to 'Superman' to 'House' on television, a genius," Mednick told MTV News. "And if anybody can bring [Superman] again to the screen, it’s going to be that team." Read more...
Three years ago, “300” Spartans dined in hell -- and judging by the more than $200 million the film grossed domestically, a lot of fans found their meal to be quite delicious. But -- spoiler alert! -- since almost everyone died at the end, can there ever be a sequel? And if so, would director Zack Snyder be interested in getting behind the camera?
With one simple word, Snyder addressed all of the above: “Sure,” he grinned.
About a year ago, news broke that Frank Miller was developing a “300” quasi-sequel. Snyder, who was in Las Vegas this week to pick up a Director of the Year award at ShoWest, revealed that he has indeed heard Miller’s idea for a graphic novel about the events that followed the key battle of “300” -- and he likes it. In case you're looking for some sort of proof that "Watchmen" stands to be the most anticipated comic book adaptation of all time -- beyond the bombardment of 11th hour marketing for the flick (some of which might be considered a felony) -- than look no further than the numbers.
According to a MovieTickets.com press release issued today, "Watchmen" is currently outpacing director Zack Snyder's previous comic book work, "300", by a margin of 4-to-1 with regards to advance ticket sales. Likewise, the release also notes that roughly a third of those sales are for IMAX screenings, which is newsworthy since only 124 IMAX theaters will be showing the film during its opening weekend. Zack Snyder may cringe at the idea of doing a "Watchmen" sequel, but the outspokenly pro-comics director knows exactly what it will take to snag his talents for a sequel to "300." After hinting back in October that another installment of "300" wasn't entirely inconceivable, Snyder's position on follow-ups to both films are now crystal clear.
“The way I would do it is if Frank [Miller] drew a graphic novel, it came out in the marketplace and people said, ‘That’s pretty cool,’” Snyder told the New York Times. “The studio wants it to be, sit with Frank, come up with an idea, write a screenplay, maybe he’ll do a graphic novel based on the screenplay. I’m like, ‘Yeah, I want nothing to do with that.’” Read more...
As we get closer to the December 25 release date for Frank Miller's take on "The Spirit," one can only assume that we're gonna get hit with a barrage of news in anticipation of the film. However, it's never too early to get the iconic comic book writer-turned-director to talk about his other notable work -- namely "Sin City," "300," and his "Martha Washington" series -- and the folks over at SuperHeroHype.com did just that in an with Miller.
When it comes to films based on Miller's revolutionary comic work, one of the biggest hot-button fanboy issues of late has to be the rumors that there will be a sequel (or possibly prequel) to "300” -- and while the moans of ire were audible on the message boards when this news broke, they quickly died down once director Zack Snyder mentioned the possibility of a new comic from Miller that would build on the "300” mythos.
"I've written a story that's not a prequel," Miller told the site. "It's definitely a further story in the Greco-Persian Wars, and it involves some of the same characters but I'm not sure exactly how far along it'll get." Read more...
Judging from the chatter about "Iron Man 2," the follow-up to "The Dark Knight," and even talk about a possible sequel to "Watchmen," it's become clear that just getting a movie made featuring a favorite comic book character or series simply isn't enough these days -- fans wanna see franchises.
Need proof? According to a post on IESB reporting on last night's press screening of new "Watchmen" footage hosted by director Zack Snyder, after talk of a rumored "Watchmen" sequel or prequel were soundly shot down by the director (or, at the very least, he'd want no involvement with such a project), questions were raised concerning a possible sequel to Frank Miller's epic "300." Snyder seemed to jump at the opportunity to discuss the potential project, saying that he'd been in discussions with Miller, and that a "300” sequel is indeed in the works. Read more...
