When it comes to comic book movie adaptations, fans can usually spot source-material unfamiliarity in the actors. Fortunately for fans of Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.'s "Kick-Ass" comic book, at least two of the film's stars have done their reading.
Turns out both Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Clark Duke were already in a pretty strong position to tackle the research that came with their roles.
"I got the script and said 'I've seen this name before,' and went through my dad's comics, pulled out the first issue and read it," Mintz-Plasse told MTV News. Read more...
Did you get your sonic screwdriver all lit up this week because you heard Neil Gaiman would be writing episode 10 in the next season of "Doctor Who"? Well, put it away because according to his Twitter account, that's not going to be happening. (It's a nice thought, though.)
Elsewhere, micro-reviews are trickling in for "Superman/Batman: Public Enemies," at it appears to have Scott Kurtz', approval, which isn't necessarily easy to acquire. (Oh, and here's Splash Page editor @RickMarshall's review of "Superman/Batman: Public Enemies"—just in case you missed it yesterday.) Both of those are in the mix today, along with a picture of Christpher Mintz-Plasse's quality family time with "Wanted," Bryan Lee O'Malley's comics vocabulary recommendations and Chuck BB's David Bowie postcard from Andy MacDonald.

Most comic-to-film stories seem marred when a fan-favorite detail gets lost in translation, but in the case of Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.'s "Kick-Ass," one character seems to have gained something in the comic's transition to the silver screen.
The title character's cohort in crime fighting, The Red Mist, has inherited a righteous mop in place of his Zorro-style bandana from the comics—a stylistic variation actor Christopher Mintz-Plasse seems pretty keen on.
"[The look] fits for the character," Mintz-Plasse told MTV News, "The character is very in his dad's shadow. He doesn't get to hang out a lot with friends because he always has a bodyguard around. He kind of wanted that wild side—that '80s glam-rock kind of look. And I love [David] Bowie—I love that kind of hair." Read more...
Now that "Kick-Ass" has an April 16 release date, comic book fans aren't the only ones starting to get excited. Cast members Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Chloe Moretz have been giggling about it over tweets.
"The Losers," which will be out a week before, also showed up today in an exchange between comic book writer Andy Diggle and actor Idris Alba.
And that's not all. I threw in some eye candy for you from Jim Lee, who's getting married. The Twitter Report wishes him many happy years and can't wait to see his finished Neil Gaiman poem illustration.
Check it all out below in the Twitter Report for September 2, 2009. Read more...

At least one famous comics artist claims James Cameron as a "major influence" and can't wait to see the director new effects-heavy film "Avatar."
Given Rob Liefeld's action scene sensibilities, that fact shouldn't surprise anyone, but he and Bryan Lee O'Malley lead the Twitter Report's feed of comics and movies-related tweets today.
"The Losers" artist Jock returned to tweeting as well, today, with some new video and pictures shown on a Spanish-language website, straight off the adaptation's set in Puerto Rico.
Each of those posts, as well as Matt Fraction on "Mad Men," and details for anyone who's ever wondered how fast Rick Remender writes, are all below in the Twiter Report for August 24, 2009. Read more...

Brian Michael Bendis reaffirmed his hope for the "Thor" film yesterday with some high expectations coming out of a mystery meeting. Director Jon Favreau, meanwhile, has been getting out more now that shooting for "Iron Man 2" has wrapped, and went out to see "District 9." You can check out his reactions below.
In other comic-based movie news, "Kick-Ass" cast members Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Chloe Moretz exchanged tweets yesterday about their upcoming release based on the Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. series of the same name. Sadly, the Twitter Report feed also picked up a tweet from webcomic marathoner John Allison, who finished drawing the last installment of his long-running series "Scary Go Round."
Check out what they all had to say, who went to a midnight screening of "Inglourious Basterds," and much more. It's in the Twitter Report for August 21, 2009. Read more...

Earlier today we heard that the upcoming adaptation of John Romita Jr. and Mark Millar's "Kick-Ass" will feature animated sequences and some significant differences from the comic book, but now we have yet another piece of news regarding the much-anticipated Matthew Vaughn film -- two pieces of news, in fact.
First, we have a brand new image from the set of "Kick-Ass" featuring actor Christopher Mintz-Plasse (McLovin' in "Superbad") suited up as costumed vigilante The Red Mist.

And it just so happens that Mintz-Plasse factors into our second piece of exclusive news, too. Read more...
When we recently listed our most anticipated comic-based movies of 2009, there was little doubt that we had to save a spot for the next flick from the mind of “Wanted” creator Mark Millar: the everyday hero story "Kick-Ass." And after getting a recent look at the "Kick-Ass" cast -- which includes the unusual teaming of Nicolas Cage and “Superbad” super-geek Christopher Mintz-Plasse, we have a feeling that when this flick comes out later this year, we’ll be McLovin’ it.
So naturally, when we recently caught up with Mintz-Plasse, we had to ask him whether “Kick Ass” will, well … do exactly that.
“I hope so,” the 19-year-old actor told MTV. “That’s all I can say is that I hope it will kick-ass. I don’t personally kick-ass in it, but other people kick-ass in it, and the movie will be kick-ass.” Read more...
It's been almost a month since we last heard a peep about Matthew Vaughn's live-action adaptation of "Kick-Ass," but some information has finally hit the grid in the last 24 hours -- including the first clear look at Christopher Mintz-Plasse in costume as teenage vigilante The Red Mist.
Over at AICN, there's a comprehensive report from their visit to the set of the film, which occurred during the filming of the only scene featuring all of the story's costumed vigilantes in one room. Along with providing a description of each character's costume -- since we have yet to see Chloe Moretz in her role as Hit Girl or Nicolas Cage as Big Daddy -- the report also includes an impressively descriptive tour of the sets created for the film in London's Elstree Studios.
As we mentioned earlier, AICN has also posted a new image from the film that, according to the report, depicts the first meeting between the film's main character, Dave Lizewski (a.k.a. Kick-Ass, as played by Aaron Johnson) and Chris D’Amico, The Red Mist. (The photo is posted after the jump.) Read more...
There was a double shot of "Kick-Ass" popping up on the 'Webs today, with two new photos from the set appearing online and some updates posted to the online journal of Chloe Moretz, the 11-year-old actress playing the pre-teen vigilante Hit Girl.
The /film crew has two new photos from the set, which feature a good look at Aaron Johnson in costume as the title character, Kick-Ass, and our first look at Christopher Mintz-Plasse in costume as Red Mist. Previously, we'd seen the Kick-Ass costume on one of Johnson's doubles for the film, and seen numerous photos of the Red Mist's suped-up car, but nothing of Mintz-Plasse in character. We've posted one of the new photos after the jump. Read more...
