AquamanBeyond "Green Lantern," "The Dark Knight Rises," the "Superman" reboot and the developing "Flash" adaptation, which DC Comics characters will find their way into theaters in the next few years?

The answer could lie out at sea, as a new rumor reported by Screen Rant suggests that Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment are planning an "Aquaman" film alongside Leonardo DiCaprio's and his Appian Way production studio.

But don't expect the movie to swim to the surface anytime soon, as the report points out that an "Aquaman" release date is most likely in 2015 or 2016. Read More...

AquamanAquaman returns to "Smallville" tonight, but actor Alan Ritchson has hinted that the long-running television series might not be the only place we'll see the live-action adventures of the king of the seas.

In an interview with Comic Book Resources, Ritchson said a live-action movie based on the DC superhero is not only more likely than a solo television series featuring the character, but he's heard an "Aquaman" movie is a very real possibility.

"A movie, on the other hand, I think is very much a reality. In fact, I think there's one in the works," said Ritchson. "Some people in LA are starting to get the ball rolling on that." Read More...

AquamanWith a number of superpowered characters already set to return to "Smallville" for the tenth and final season, Arthur “AC” Curry will be coming back upstream as well.

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Alan Ritchson will reprise his role as "AC" (aka the future Aquaman) on the ninth episode of the new season of "Smallville." While "AC" may be Ritchson's best known role, he also appears alongside former "Smallville" star Sam Jones III in the Spike TV series "Blue Mountain State."

The last time "AC" appeared back in the eighth season of "Smallville," his secret identity was compromised by LuthorCorp and the nascent Justice League went their separate ways. In addition to Ritchson, other previously confirmed returning characters include James Marsters as Brainiac 5, Michael Shanks as Hawkman and Laura Vandervoort as Kara/Supergirl. Read More...

The FlashComic book fans, stretch those muscles and get ready for the race — "The Flash" is close to ready for his first big screen marathon.

Warner Bros. chairman and CEO Barry Meyer told shareholders during a presentation that "The Flash," based on the DC Comics character dubbed as "the fastest man alive," is close to receiving a green light from the film studio. While screenwriters and directors have yet to be announced, Meyer's words indicate that the first cinematic adventure of Barry Allen — or, possibly, Wally West — is getting closer to an official announcement.

But "The Flash" isn't the only comic book project that Meyer confirmed as in development. Read More...

Green LanternLast month, rumors emerged that a new animated "Green Lantern" movie was in the works that would be a potential prequel to "Green Lantern: First Flight." However, according to Warner Brothers Animation writer/producer Bruce Timm, plans for a second "Green Lantern" animated film were canceled.

"We had originally planned to do sequels for 'Wonder Woman' and 'Green Lantern,'" revealed Timm during an interview with Think McFly Think. "With 'Green Lantern,' it didn’t perform nearly as well as what they had hoped it would."

"In the long run, it eventually made its money back, but the sales weren’t there right away during its release." he added. "Hopefully with the release of the live-action film next year, that will open up the doors for more 'Green Lantern' related material." Read More...

Alan RitchsonWhat does a new scripted comedy series about college football have in common with comic books? According to the cast of "Blue Mountain State," quite a lot!

Comics Continuum spoke with Darin Brooks, Alan Ritchson and Sam Jones III, three of the stars behind Spike TV's upcoming football-centric comedy series "Blue Mountain State," about their own interests in the comic book medium.

For Brooks, his experience is relegated to mere fandom, but both Ritchson and Jones have appeared on the CW's "Smallville." Fans will remember Ritchson as Arthur Curry, the aquatically-inclined hero better known to comic book readers as Aquaman. Read More...

AquamanFROM MULTIPLAYER: The creative director of upcoming MMORPG “DC Universe Online” insisted that Aquaman, perhaps the most mocked superhero in history, is a “badass,” but no swimming powers are in the game “at the moment.”

During a demo of “DC Universe Online” yesterday in a midtown Manhattan hotel, I spoke with the game’s creative director Jens Andersen about making the highly anticipated superhero MMO. One of the DC characters we talked about was Aquaman; the undersea superhero is often mocked for simply being a dude who can talk to fish. But he’s much more, said Andersen.

Kevin SmithTaking Kevin Smith’s name in vain is a running joke on “Entourage” – so much so that Smith likes to joke, “Ari Gold? He’ll never be my agent. And I’m never going to work with Vinnie Chase.”

At the New York premiere of “Zack and Miri Make A Porno” -- part of the kickoff for the CMJ Music Marathon & Film Festival -- Smith reminisced during a Q&A session about how a fictional story on “Entourage” bled into his real life, and all because they cited him as the writer for a movie on the show.

In season three, Vincent Chase was about to do “Aquaman 2,” but balks because instead of James Cameron directing, Michael Bay is stepping in. And instead of Andrew Kevin Walker ("Se7en") writing, it’s Kevin Smith. “They’re rushing it into production, and so they’re having a scene where they’re talking about who’s directing, who’s writing it, and my name comes up,” Smith said. “And they’re like, ‘F--k!’” (Actually, it was more like a collective groan, with Vincent saying, ‘F--k you, Ari! I want off this movie!”).

“That stung a little bit,” Smith admitted. “But the weirdest thing was that afterwards, for the next two months, people would come up and congratulate me. ‘I hear you’re doing “Aquaman 2”!’ And I was like, ‘Motherf---er, did you ever see ‘Aquaman 1’?!” Read More...
