'Deadworld'At this week's red carpet for "Coraline," producer Bill Mechanic revealed to MTV News that he's already got another project in the works with ties to the comics world -- an adaptation of the comic book series "Deadworld."

"Deadworld" was originally published back in 1987 by Arrow Comics but was recently re-launched by Image in 2005. The storyline features survivors fighting off an apocalypse of zombies, but with the twist that the attacking dead are as sentient and intelligent as the living.

"[It's] a different one for me," says Mechanic of the project. "I've never done anything like it." Read More...

'Torso'On the red carpet for the Portland premiere of "Coraline," producer Bill Mechanic told MTV News
that a big-screen adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis' graphic novel "Torso" is still moving forward, with or without Paramount's involvement.

The film still has David Fincher attached as a director, but no studio has committed to back the picture. Mechanic now says that not only will the film still happen, it'll still happen at Paramount. Read More...

'Torso'So would Jake Gyllenhaal or Matt Damon be the main contender for the lead role in "Torso" -- and what is that lead role? Both actors have been reported to be attached to the David Fincher film, an adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis and Marc Andreyko's graphic novel, but filmmakers have suggested that the film and the novel are very different beasts.

We caught up with the film's producer Bill Mechanic at a "Coraline" sneak peek in New York recently and he cleared up a few things.

"They didn't have the usual problems of adaptation, maybe because it's a graphic novel," Mechanic said. "We have an excellent script from Ehren Kruger," who also wrote "Arlington Road," "The Ring," and "Skeleton Key," "and it's the best thing he's written by far. Even the minor parts, there are places where real actors can score." Read More...
