SXSWSouth by Southwest is great, because even if you can't get away to Texas to check out all of the media and music nerdery going on, you can follow just about every event there via Twitter. Simon Pegg had a blast showing off his new movie "Paul," while Brett Ratner encountered some problems after leaving his cellphone in a cab.

Meanwhile, diligent comics artists like Mike Oeming and Peter Krause have been honing their skills as usual and posting process shots, which are always great to see. You see those below, along with some reactions to "Celebrity Apprentice" and Gail Simone's wish for a new take on Conan.

Captain America trailerWhether you missed the Super Bowl entirely, or just need a a refresher on what was worth reacting to last night, the Twitter Report is now proud to present to you a diverse array of opinions from around the industry. While Volkswagen's Darth Vader commercial pulled in some laughs, the "Captain America" trailer turned out to be rather divisive.

The Black Eyed Peas' halftime show and Christina Aguilera's rendition of the national anthem, meanwhile, did not go over so well with our feed. Check out who loved Steve Rogers, who was hating, and who's now watching the Cap trailer in a loop down below.

"Congrats to Zack Snyder on Superman. Can't wait to see it!!!!" tweeted Brett Ratner last month when news broke that the "Watchmen" director would be helming the latest reboot of the DC Comics franchise.

It was an admirable gesture on Ratner's part, considering he spent a year of his life on "Superman" preproduction, only to see the budget balloon and the project collapse. When he stopped by Splash Page HQ to promote "Skyline" recently, Ratner continued to express support for Snyder, but also admitted to some jealously.

"Is there envy? Maybe a little," he told MTV News. "It was a dream of mine to make a Superman movie." Read More...

These things takes time. In August of 2009, six months after the project was first announced, Brett Ratner told us that an adaptation of "Youngblood" was still being scripted. The next spring, Ratner let us know he and writers J.P. Lavin and Chad Damiani were still hard at work on a draft.

"We're still working on it," Ratner told MTV News when he stopped by Splash Page HQ this week. Read More...

Zack Snyder SupermanZack Snyder is directing the new Superman reboot, and industry tweeters have opinions. While Geoff Johns and Brett Ratner got excited, Mike Costa and Dustin Harbin were significantly less thrilled. One thing's for sure, though: Chris Weston should be in charge of casting General Zod.

Recent tweets not associated with Superman in our feed included some WWE criticism from Jill Thompson, as well as a piece of Hellboy iPad art by Duncan Fegredo that's pretty snazzy. Check it out after the jump along with a million dollar Mario-verse question from Rick Basaldua.

'X-Men: First Class'Let's just say that "X-Men: The Last Stand" director Brett Ratner has a complicated relationship with the comic book community. Though his entry in the mutant series remains the highest grossing film of the franchise ($459 million in worldwide box office sales), you only have to visit the comment section of any story on the director to get a sense of the vitriol often directed his way.

Yes, Ratner may not be universally adored, but he's come out with a full-throated endorsement of the newest director in the "X-Men" community: Matthew Vaughn, who officially signed on to direct "X-Men: First Class" earlier this month.

"I think he's brilliant," Ratner said of the "Kick-Ass" director. "I thought his last movie was fantastic. I'm a fan." Read More...

YoungbloodLast August, Brett Ratner told us that his live-action adaptation of "Youngblood" was still in the script phase. Nine months later, that's where the project still stands.

"I'm working on the script," the director told MTV News. "'Youngblood will be something I do in the future, whether it's next year or whatever."

At the moment, Ratner is pushing forward with his next directorial gig, "Tower Heist," for which he's hoping to lock down Ben Stiller, and developing 'Youngblood' with an eye toward turning it into an enduring big screen franchise.

"I'm never going to do another 'X-Men' obviously, and I'm not doing any more with 'Rush Hour,'" he explained. "But to do a new franchise, I don't care what the budget is — even if it was small — but it would be exciting because then I could start my own franchise. I could do what Bryan [Singer] did with 'X-Men.'" Read More...

TwitterBrian Michael Bendis wasn't the only one getting psyched up for a Marvel Comics retreat yesterday. Both Fred Van Lente and Jonathan Hickman mulled over the event on their own Twitter accounts -- and it looks like they've made theirs Marvel instead of President Obama's State of the Union Address.

The mysterious Apple tablet continued to trend as mightily as ever over the past 24 hours in the Twitterverse. Rob Liefeld wants one, Jon Rosenberg has a few demands and Ryan Stegman thinks he knows what Steve Jobs does when he's alone. All of those retweets and links appear after the jump with Greg Rucka pleased reaction to "Mass Effect 2" and a snapshot from Brett Ratner. Together, they form the Twitter Report for January 27, 2010.

Matthew Bomer is currently impressing audiences as conman-turned-FBI agent Neal Caffery in the "White Collar" television series, but there was a time not too long ago when he was primed to bring a far more familiar character to the big screen as the star of what eventually became "Superman Returns."

Before Bryan Singer took over "Superman Returns," Brett Ratner had been tagged as the project's director and cast Bomer as Kal-El. Ratner left the project in 2003, and the role of Superman was re-cast and given to Brandon Routh when Singer was named the new director. So, when Bomer dropped by MTV HQ to discuss "White Collar," we had to ask him what it was like to be Superman — even for just a little while.

"I actually screen-tested for Superman, and there was a time when Brett Ratner and I were going to work together on it," Bomer told MTV News. "That particular incarnation of that franchise sort of fell apart, and then it became a whole different beast." Read More...

ThorThe Warriors Three may be joining Anthony Hopkins as Odin in Kenneth Branagh's "Thor," but at least one writer would rather have seen Sean Connery play the Allfather.

Elsewhere, big names in comics turned out for "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" last night, including Kevin Smith, who compared his daughter's relationship with the franchise to his own experience with "Star Wars." Far more comics faces were gathered in New York, though, for the Spider-Man summit Fred Van Lente tweeted about yesterday. Dan Slott posted a pic from the group's Marvel-funded dinner. Check that out after the jump along with Gail Simone's first tweet from her Xbox 360, Steve Niles' reaction to last night's meteor shower and Matthew Sturges' Imogen Heap dilemma.

It's all in the Twitter Report for November 17, 2009. Read More...
