TwitterBrian Michael Bendis wasn't the only one getting psyched up for a Marvel Comics retreat yesterday. Both Fred Van Lente and Jonathan Hickman mulled over the event on their own Twitter accounts -- and it looks like they've made theirs Marvel instead of President Obama's State of the Union Address.

The mysterious Apple tablet continued to trend as mightily as ever over the past 24 hours in the Twitterverse. Rob Liefeld wants one, Jon Rosenberg has a few demands and Ryan Stegman thinks he knows what Steve Jobs does when he's alone. All of those retweets and links appear after the jump with Greg Rucka pleased reaction to "Mass Effect 2" and a snapshot from Brett Ratner. Together, they form the Twitter Report for January 27, 2010.

Matthew Bomer is currently impressing audiences as conman-turned-FBI agent Neal Caffery in the "White Collar" television series, but there was a time not too long ago when he was primed to bring a far more familiar character to the big screen as the star of what eventually became "Superman Returns."

Before Bryan Singer took over "Superman Returns," Brett Ratner had been tagged as the project's director and cast Bomer as Kal-El. Ratner left the project in 2003, and the role of Superman was re-cast and given to Brandon Routh when Singer was named the new director. So, when Bomer dropped by MTV HQ to discuss "White Collar," we had to ask him what it was like to be Superman — even for just a little while.

"I actually screen-tested for Superman, and there was a time when Brett Ratner and I were going to work together on it," Bomer told MTV News. "That particular incarnation of that franchise sort of fell apart, and then it became a whole different beast." Read more...

ThorThe Warriors Three may be joining Anthony Hopkins as Odin in Kenneth Branagh's "Thor," but at least one writer would rather have seen Sean Connery play the Allfather.

Elsewhere, big names in comics turned out for "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" last night, including Kevin Smith, who compared his daughter's relationship with the franchise to his own experience with "Star Wars." Far more comics faces were gathered in New York, though, for the Spider-Man summit Fred Van Lente tweeted about yesterday. Dan Slott posted a pic from the group's Marvel-funded dinner. Check that out after the jump along with Gail Simone's first tweet from her Xbox 360, Steve Niles' reaction to last night's meteor shower and Matthew Sturges' Imogen Heap dilemma.

SupermanThe last time J.J. Abrams had the Man of Steel on his mind, things didn't exactly work out as planned, but given his resilient career in television and film since 2002, the creator is in a better position than ever to make a hypothetical return to the property. However, despite the support of high-profile fans such as filmmaker Kevin Smith and many in the fan community, at this point, nothing is officially moving forward with Abrams' version of Superman.

"No one has talked to me about it," Abrams told MTV News. "Obviously I’m sure Warner Brothers has a plan for what they want to do."

"Writing that script was a long process," he explained. "It was a very passionate character for me. As a kid growing up it meant a lot to me. It would be wonderful and fun to see that brought back. I don’t know what Warners is thinking or what their plan is. It would be a blast." Read more...

Brett RatnerComic book fans that have a bone to pick with "X-Men: The Last Stand" director Brett Ratner might be in for a bit of a shock—the filmmaker has a bone to pick with them, too.

According to Digital Spy, Ratner took a last stand of his own against the various "comic book geeks" that have spoken out against his past work on the "X-Men" franchise. The director has an issue with the idea that he destroyed the Marvel property, particularly because the success of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" says otherwise.

"If I buried the franchise how the f--- did they make a 'Wolverine'?" Ratner argued. "I mean, that's ridiculous. And they're making three other f---ing 'X-Men' movies. Mine kept the franchise alive!" Read more...

TwitterBrett Ratner returns to the Twitter Report today. I like to think of myself as your comics-oriented Tweet jockey (TJ, if you will), and since he's been posting adamantly about his comics interests this week, I wanted to put a follow-up to his tweet yesterday at the top of today's report.

Apparently, Ratner owns one of the holy grails for comics collectors and as well as a lot of "Youngblood," which he'll be adapting to film.

Meanwhile, Cameron Stewart tweeted his excitement about reforming the "Seaguy" team by joining Grant Morrison on "Batman and Robin", Bryan Lee O'Malley mourned the ending to John Allison's long-running webcomic "Scary Go Round," and Gail Simone contemplated a move into video game development.

Twitter - Beatles Rock BandBrett Ratner set his Caps Lock to SHOUT yesterday and tweeted a post addressed to comic book fans everywhere. Apparently, someone accused him of being a liar at some point. I'm not sure of the exact context, but Ratner wants everyone to know that "NO ONE IS LYING."

Brian Michael Bendis and Gail Simone, meanwhile, have been discussing their fondness for "The Beatles: Rock Band." Artist Mike Norton isn't quite as psyched about the release, but he'll probably let you play bass with him.

Elsewhere, Jock is getting pumped for his "Losers" set visit and Ron Marz has some advice for aspiring writers.

It's all below in the Twitter Report for September 10, 2009. Read more...

ConanHe's already had his way with Marvel's mutants and he's about to dive into the world of Rob Liefeld's "Youngblood" (with Robert Pattinson at the helm, if the director has any say in the matter) but there's one comic book character that has eluded director Brett Ratner.

For some time, Ratner was attached to direct the upcoming "Conan" movie, which he described as neither an homage or a remake, but a new exploration of the Cimmerian's classic roots. But sooner than you could pray to Crom, the "X-Men: The Last Stand" director was off the project, with Marcus Nispel taking his place.

"I really wanted to do that," Ratner confessed to MTV News about his departure from the "Conan" movie. "I'm sad about it, because I loved the script." Read more...

Robert PattinsonRobert Pattinson and his brooding "Twilight" alter ego might not be the first things that come to mind when contemplating the casting for Brett Ratner's upcoming, big-screen adaptation of the superhero series "Youngblood," but that's exactly whose name the filmmaker dropped when asked if he had any actors in mind.

"Definitely [Robert Pattinson] from 'Twilight,'" Ratner told MTV News when asked if he has his eye on any potential "Youngblood" actors at this point. "He just feels like he belongs in that world. I don't only see him as a vampire, he's a really good actor."

Given the roster of the comic book's team, Pattinson's leading-man resume and Ratner's previous comments about the "Youngblood" storyline, it's not too difficult to guess which role Ratner has in mind for the "Twilight" star. Read more...

Brett RatnerFilmmaker Brett Ratner undeniably left his stamp on the comic book movies with "X-Men: The Last Stand," but don't expect the director currently slated to helm "Youngblood" (and formerly attached to "Conan") to take another shot at Marvel's mutants.

"The thing with the 'X-Men' universe is, I feel like I've already done it," Ratner told MTV News when asked whether he'd ever consider returning to the X-Men film franchise. "Certain things I would go after, and certain things only if the script is great."

According to Ratner, some of those projects he'd be interested in as both a filmmaker and fan include the oft-mentioned "X-Men Origins: Magneto" and "X-Men: First Class." Read more...
