Captain AmericaJust in time to coincide with the second trailer for "Captain America: The First Avenger," MTV News proudly presents our report from the set of the star-spangled superhero's big-screen debut!

MTV Movies Blog Editor Josh Wigler visited the Marvel Comics adaptation's Shepperton Studios set in September 2010, and you'll hear all about it throughout the day right here at Splash Page.

Chris Evans is gone now and the Red Skull is standing in front of me. For a minute, I feel as though I've been whipped up into the clouds by a hurricane and dropped without warning into the Marvel-ous land of my childhood. Close, but not quite: instead, it's September 2010 and I'm in the United Kingdom on the set of "Captain America," and sure enough, standing in front of me is acting legend Hugo Weaving, covered head to toe in full Red Skull regalia, makeup and all.

We have two minutes to speak with him. They are the most surreal two minutes of my life as a professional nerd.

Steve Rogers is the kind of man who would jump on a grenade for you — just check out the new "Captain America" trailer if you don't believe me — and even if he hasn't always had the brawn to back up his bravery, he's always had the fighting spirit. It's that very spirit that provides the backbone for who Steve is, according to Chris Evans. In fact, it's exactly what attracted him to the role in the first place.

Evans, who had struggled through a wardrobe malfunction earlier in the day, opened up to the gathered journalists on the "Cap" set about how much he relates to "Skinny Steve," a guy without the bulk of most men but with heart and guts that are second to none. He attributed his sympathy for Steve to something — or someone, rather — very personal to him.

They say that the clothes make the man. That's certainly true when it comes to Chris Evans and Steve Rogers, though the comic book movie veteran does seem to have some trouble with one little aspect of his superhero suit.

In September, I joined a small group of journalists on the England set of "Captain America" and had the chance to interview the man himself about playing one of Marvel's most iconic characters. When we first met Evans, he looked less like the super soldier we were expecting and more like Luke Skywalker circa "Return of the Jedi," shrouded in a thick black cloak designed to prevent nearby photographers from snapping early shots of his highly anticipated costume. But when he whipped the covering off, there he was: Captain America in all of his glory. Well, not all of it, thankfully — but almost.

"Smooth as ever," he groaned upon realizing that, yes, his fly was open. Very smooth indeed, Cap.

Each superhero movie coming out this summer has something special to offer, according to “X-Men: First Class” star Lucas Till. While sitting with fellow stars Zoë Kravitz and Rose Byrne, he was asked what separated “X-Men” from the other superhero movies we’ll soon be seeing.

“The question I wish you would ask me was, ‘How awesome does this summer look?’ Because you’ve got completely different things," till told MTV News. "You’ve got, like, with ‘Captain America,’ you got a 1940s pulp movie feel and I feel like that’s going to be its own separate thing and fun and entertaining. And then you got ‘Thor,’ which is like a cool ‘He-Man’ episode — which I was thoroughly surprised with.” Read More...

Captain AmericaSome of the most interesting parts of "Captain America" that we've seen so far show Chris Evans as a puny dude who is at first rejected from the Army for being too skinny. Unlike some actors who go on dangerous crash diets to achieve that freaky look, Evans was digitally manipulated -- which is especially helpful since he has to get all muscle-bound and ready to kick butt later in the movie.

However, before he became the superstar of comic book flicks, he admits he looked more like Steve Rogers than the all-American Captain.

"[I]t it wasn’t that foreign to me because that’s what I looked like for a big chunk of my life," he told USA Today. "This is what I looked like for all of all middle school. Up until maybe sophomore year, I was a pretty skinny kid for a long time." Read More...

Captain AmericaAlthough this summer's "Captain America: The First Avenger" is the first time most movie-goers have seen Marvel's star-spangled hero on the silver screen, an upcoming DVD release reveals a secret origin for the patriotic star.

B-movie director Albert Pyun recently talked with io9 about the upcoming re-release of his little-known "Captain America" film from 1990.

Starring Matt Salinger (novelist J.D. Salinger's son) as Steve Rogers, the film was originally planned as a big-budget feature film spurred by the success of Tim Burton's "Batman." A last-minute withdrawal by the film's backers led Pyun to finish the film on a shoestring budget and led the studio -- and Marvel -- to send the film on a direct-to-video trajectory that kept it out of the mainstream movie-goer's eye. captain america"Captain America: The First Avenger" is going to be a big movie, no question about that — and any big movie needs an epic soundtrack to go along with it. Well, Marvel Studios has got you covered. Industry veteran Alan Silvestri is coming in to compose the score, his first collaboration with director Joe Johnston.

The news comes from Film Music Reporter, though it should be noted that there's no source provided for the confirmation.

Silvestri is a true Hollywood veteran, with more than 100 films credited to his name. He hasn't worked on a comic book adaptation since the 1995 take on "Judge Dredd," but his resume includes greats like "Forrest Gump," "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" and the entire "Back to the Future" trilogy. Can't really ask for better than that, right? Read More...

Thor toy Chris HemsworthAs always, Toy Fair 2011 drew quite a crowd of industry movers and shakers, collectors, and fans this year — but it also attracted a few big movie stars, too. Case in point: "Thor" star Chris Hemsworth and "Captain America: The First Avenger" star Chris Evans made a surprise appearance at the Hasbro showroom this week to check out the upcoming line of toys based on their Marvel blockbusters.

We posted our video (and photo) preview of the "Captain America" movie toys yesterday, but it's always fun to see what the actors themselves think of the toys based on their likeness. The good folks at Hasbro were nice enough to send over a few photos of Evans and Hemsworth checking out the goods — including a nice shot of both actors goofing around with a kid-friendly version of Thor's hammer and a plastic, disc-shooting replica of Captain America's shield.
