Just about a month ago now, D.J. Caruso officially confirmed his involvement as the director of an upcoming adaptation of the Garth Ennis comic book series "Preacher." The project has been brewing for a long time in Hollywood, and now it finally seems to be coming together.

In a recent overseas interview pegged to the release of Caruso's "I Am Number Four" the director spoke at length about the coming adaptation, casting, and the challenges of porting such a potentially controversial story over to the big screen.

"It is a crazy road trip and I think what’s amazing and what makes Sony so brave is they can see there’s a real universality to the story when you have good vs. evil," he told CloneWeb. "I think when you have these crazy characters, that are not necessarily politically correct, there’s something generally attractive to those characters and those elements." Read More...

Director Edgar Wright's attachment to "Ant-Man" goes back quite a ways, but the movie isn't scheduled to hit until after "The Avengers" in 2012. Still, that's not to say that Hank Pym won't show up before his solo movie debut — in fact, there's a very good chance he'll show up right alongside Iron Man, Captain America and Thor in Marvel Studios' major team-up.

After the jump, we've compiled some of our favorite candidates to take on the role of Hank Pym, the size-changing scientific superhero better known as Ant-Man! Read More...

Unless actor Jeremy Renner is getting his information from a parallel universe, it's sounding likely that Hawkeye has a role in Marvel's upcoming movie slate. Still, even Renner is quick to admit that while he's discussed the role with Marvel, he's not a lock for the part.

Assuming the role exists and is still available, it's worth wondering what type of actor would be best-suited for Clint Barton. I don't think the part requires an action hero body, though an athletic physique is a must. Barton also has to be equal parts charming and arrogant without sacrificing his heroic qualities — and he's got to be awesome with a bow and arrow, but that's where pre-production training comes in!

Keeping those prerequisites in mind, I think the following five actors would be right on the mark for Hawkeye.

Star TrekWith Thanksgiving Day around the corner, we're giving thanks for some of our favorite actors and filmmakers around MTV HQ all week. Yesterday, we brought you an exclusive interview with "Star Trek" director J.J. Abrams and star Chris Pine, who reinvented the science-fiction megafranchise with this year's blockbuster movie.

Here's what Abrams had to say about taking on the daunting task of bringing the "Trek" franchise to a new generation:

MTV: So I am a born and bred Trekkie. I want to thank you on behalf of every "Trek" fan. You made "Star Trek" for the first time cooler than "Star Wars." Would you agree with that?

ABRAMS: You're asking a dangerous question, my friend. I don't know how you respond to that without sounding like a douche bag. Why don't you just put a bull's-eye on my head? You know, making a film knowing there were so many fans out there was nerve-racking. I was behind the camera. Chris, Zach [Quinto], Zoe [Saldana], John [Cho], Simon [Pegg], Karl [Urban] — everyone in front of the camera — they were the ones literally putting themselves out there and asking for it. The fact that we were accepted and helped by [original Spock] Mr. [Leonard] Nimoy building that bridge between what was and what is now, it was incredibly gratifying to see it was well-received.

FROM MTV.COM: Until this weekend, not many among the moviegoing public knew the name Chris Pine, unless you happened to be a fan of films like "The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement" or the Lindsay Lohan rom-com clunker "Just My Luck." But his turn as young James T. Kirk in J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" reboot looks to be a star-making move.

And it's not just audiences and critics who are raving about Pine's Kirk and favorably comparing his portrayal to that of original Kirk, William Shatner; Hollywood is taking notice too. Count director Kevin Smith among Pine's growing legion of fans.

"I think what makes that movie work chiefly — aside from, of course, the talents who all came together behind it — is Chris Pine," Smith said when he stopped by the MTV News offices. "That dude is astounding. To be able to invoke Kirk without doing a Shatner impression? That performance was so electric and so wonderful to watch.

Chris PineChris Pine may be showing up in theaters as the new James T. Kirk for "Star Trek" this year, but contrary to percolating rumors he has not yet been offered a green ring to play Hal Jordan. It turns out that discussions have taken place, but no one has sealed any deals yet for Pine to appear in the new "Green Lantern" film from Warner Bros.

"No, I had a meeting with [casting director] Pam Dixon and [executive producer] Donald De Line, but a meeting was all it was," Pine told MTV News. "I have not been offered squat. I do not have the part and haven't read a script." Read More...

Chris PineBy Josh Wigler

News on the "Green Lantern" front has been ratcheting up lately with word that the film will shoot in Australia this September with Martin Campbell at the helm. As the shoot date nears, fans are scratching their heads wondering who will play Hal Jordan. According to two reliable sites, the mystery may be over soon – sources suggest that Chris Pine is the frontrunner to play Green Lantern.

IESB broke the news yesterday that "Star Trek" actor Pine is at the top of a short list of desired stars for the "Green Lantern" lead. The rumor mill was fueled further by a report from Latino Review that Pine isn't just the leading contender – he's been offered the role. "It's more than just a rumor... it's LEGIT!" exclaims Latino Review's El Mayimbe. "According to my sources, 'THE OFFICIAL OFFER is out to Chris Pine for the role.'"

Yet despite Latino Review’s "scoop," rival news outlet Collider is challenging claims that Chris Pine has been offered the coveted role of Hal Jordan. Read More...
