Kate Mara

It's a good time to be Rooney Mara, what with her Oscar-nominated performance as Lisbeth Salander in "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," and her football royalty family's current stake in the New York Giants taking on the New England Patriots at this year's Super Bowl.

Like her sister, Kata Mara is riding a solid wave as well, having just completed a literally haunting turn as undead psychopath Hayden on "American Horror Story." But it could have been an even better year for Mara, who was reportedly up for the role of Selina Kyle in Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises" — an experience she's likely sad to have missed out on, but one she's excited to see on the big screen all the same.

"Christopher Nolan is one of my favorite directors and just to get the opportunity to test for such an iconic role as Catwoman was an honor," Mara told ESPN in a new interview.

There's plenty of mystery surrounding the upcoming superhero flick, "The Dark Knight Rises." If we were to take Christopher Nolan's word as law, then we'd believe the movie is only about Tom Hardy's Bane causing trouble for Christian Bale's Batman with Anne Hathaway's Catwoman wreaking some havoc on the side.

Fortunately, we're of the belief that there are going to be some awesome surprises in "The Dark Knight Rises." One of which will (hopefully) be the return of Liam Neeson as "Batman Begins" villain Ra's al Ghul.

The appearance has long been rumored, but for the first time Neeson has commented on it and confirmed that he actually was on "The Dark Knight Rises" set for long enough to shoot a scene.

Nolan

The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly gave us a bunch of brand new photos from "The Dark Knight Rises," but perhaps the best insight came from the interview with Christopher Nolan, featured in the article accompanying them.

Since Nolan released the six-minute prologue in front of "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol," negative talk about the his choices for Bane's voice have dominated the conversation, something Nolan and Warner Bros. undoubtedly can't be happy with.

In EW, Nolan took an opportunity to plead his case and solicit trust from the fans he has thrilled for years. "I think when people see the film, things will come into focus," he said.

So more or less, "Don't worry, guys. I've got this."

Christopher Nolan worked hard for his creative autonomy. After making two critically and commercially successful Batman movies, he rolled the dice on a "big idea" action movie, "Inception." The result was $800 million for Warner Bros. and, more importantly, creative freedom for Nolan.

Fans react to the "Dark Knight Rises" trailer!

But now, Nolan is flexing his muscles. After fans returned from screenings of the six-minute prologue for "The Dark Knight Rises" claiming that they couldn't understand Bane, Warner Bros. began to panic. According to the Hollywood Reporter, one rep reportedly working on the film said he was "scared to death" about the "Bane problem."

Dark Knight

"The Dark Knight Rises" is the last Batman movie Christopher Nolan will ever direct. But even though it's the filmmaker's decision, leaving Gotham City behind hasn't been without its fair share of bittersweetness.

“I tend not to be too emotional on the set, I find that doesn’t help me do my job,” Nolan said in an interview with Hero Complex. “But you definitely get a little lump in your throat thinking that, 'OK, this is going to be the last time we’re going to be doing this.' It’s been quite a journey. Hopefully, reflecting that journey — by all of us who made the films — in the three films together will make it so they have a real span to them, some real heft.”

Batman

The new poster for "The Dark Knight Rises" sparked the debate that the final Christopher Nolan Batman film might mean the death of the Caped Crusader, or at least Bruce Wayne.

I started the conversation in my weekly Batman column, The Weekly Rising, and I asked to hear from you over Twitter about what you think is in store for Bruce Wayne and Batman when they meet Bane in July.

There was no overwhelming consensus in your tweets, but generally, most of you don't think we'll see Bruce Wayne bite the dust, but he may be hanging up his cowl. Let's take look at some of your responses.
