Scarecrow

There are plenty of questions about the characters involved in "The Dark Knight Rises." Is Marion Cotillard actually playing Talia Al Ghul? Is Joseph Gordon-Levitt secretly Robin, or perhaps the Riddler? Just who will Juno Temple play in the film? And will Cillian Murphy make his third appearance as the Scarecrow in the final Christopher Nolan Batman movie?

The folks over at BBC Radio 5 Live tried very hard to get an answer to the last of those questions when they interviewed Murphy about his upcoming flick, "In Time." The Irish actor hedged all their prying questions, but the big smile on his face and very careful wording of his answers leads this writer to believe that Murphy is definitely hiding something.

It wouldn't be Friday without another update on "The Dark Knight Rises." Today, we've rounded up some comments from screenwriter Jonathan Nolan about those leaked "Dark Knight" set photos you may or may not have seen (smart money says you have), plus a juicy new rumor about a returning Batman bad guy.

First up is Nolan, who spoke with IGN about his new CBS thriller "Person of Interest" and his work on "The Dark Knight Rises." When the conversation turned to the vast amount of spoilers and unofficial photos coming from the Christopher Nolan set, Jonathan teased that these leaks barely scratch the surface of what fans will get to see in theaters.

As we reported earlier this week, director Stephen Norrington's reboot of "The Crow" is moving forward aggressively with an offer out to a "major actor." Producer Edward Pressman made it clear that this version of the "Crow" would be quite different from the original, something that's caused no small amount of debate between fans of the franchise.

With significant departures from the 1994 film planned, the production will likely take a new approach for the lead character. Norrington has said in the past that the movie won't focus on Eric Draven, which is a wise choice — it would be a mistake to mimic the late Brandon Lee's iconic performance. Instead, the filmmaker and his collaborators should strive for a wholly original but equally memorable hero.

If that's the approach they're going for — and I certainly hope it is — here are five actors that could steer "The Crow" in some interesting new directions. Read More...

It looks like Columbia Pictures is revving up to bring "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance" to the big screen, but the return of Nicolas Cage to the title role is no longer guaranteed. If the actor cannot find room in his schedule to start shooting the sequel by November, the studio will reportedly proceed without him or else risk losing the franchise to Marvel Studios.

With that in mind, it's time to start considering the possibilities of other actors for Johnny Blaze. For my money, there are three qualities that any prospective successor should embody: rugged looks, a bone-chilling stare and a menacing voice that puts the fear of God in your heart.

After the jump, I've listed five candidates that could pull off all these qualities as the next Johnny Blaze. Read More...

Cillian MurphyCillian Murphy returned for "The Dark Knight" after helping relaunch the Batman movie franchise as The Scarecrow in "Batman Begins." Murphy re-teams with director Christopher Nolan for his new film "Inception," so there is little doubt that Nolan would want him back if there's a Jonathan Crane role to be filled in "Batman 3"—and Murphy remains hopeful that a third installment is in the works.

"I hope they make a third one," he told MTV News. "I think 'The Dark Knight' was one of the greatest films."

Just because he's hopeful, however, doesn't mean that Nolan has shared his intentions on the "Inception" set. Read More...

Cillian MurphyFROM MOVIES BLOG: Though its plotline is still a tightly kept secret, Christopher Nolan's next film, "Inception," is coming together. Last month, we reported that Leonardo DiCaprio had come aboard to play the lead, and that Ellen Page was rumored to be the next to sign.

The rumors were true, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, Page is coming aboard, along with Cillian Murphy and Oscar winner Marion Cotillard. (Clearly, he had to have one familiar face among all the newcomers, even if it was the Scarecrow's!)
