Jason MomoaThe search for Conan is over, as "Stargate Atlantis" star Jason Momoa has been cast as Robert E. Howard's famous Cimmerian warrior.

Deadline Hollywood reports that the previously rumored Momoa is in negotiations to star as Conan in Marcus Nispel's upcoming reinvention of the classic fantasy hero. The news couldn't come soon enough given the fact that production on "Conan" is slated to begin on March 15 in Bulgaria.

By securing the role of Conan, Momoa beat out rival competitor Kellan Lutz, the "Twilight" actor that confirmed his status as a "Conan" contender just last week. Read more...

Kellan LutzKellan Lutz confirmed he's one of the leading candidates to play Conan in the upcoming film based on Robert E. Howard's famous barbarian.

"I've been auditioning," Lutz told E Online. "They're finalizing so they're trying to figure out what happens next. I've been waiting for a while, doing screen tests. There are just so many cooks in the kitchen. If it happens, it happens."

According to yesterday's report, Lutz is competing with "Stargate: Atlantis" actor Jason Momoa and another unnamed actor for the role of a younger, though still muscular Conan. Details of the film's plot have been hard toc ome by, though Lutz did offer up his take on how the new Conan will differ from the version made famous by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Read more...

Kellan LutzWhat is good in life? The idea that Marcus Nispel's upcoming "Conan" movie will name its lead barbarian any day now.

There's been no shortage of casting rumors surrounding the "Conan" reboot since it was first announced, and according to Deadline Hollywood, many of those rumors are close to being debunked (or possibly confirmed) as the studio narrows its choices for the title role. The site reports that the pool was down to two contenders as of last week — "Twilight" actor Kellan Lutz (pictured) and "Stargate: Atlantis" actor Jason Momoa — but now another, unnamed actor could be in the mix, too.

Conan The Weight Of The CrownOver the course of his comics career, Darick Robertson has tackled outlaw journalists, morally depraved superheroes, an X-Man, and the most famous gun-slinging vigilante around — but his next project harkens back to a time before his resume was filled with some of the most popular characters of the last few decades.

Next week, the co-creator of "Transmetropolitan" and "The Boys" turns his eye to Robert E. Howard's famous barbarian, Conan, in a one-shot story that he scripted and drew, titled "Conan: The Weight Of The Crown."

MTV News caught up with Robertson to find out where his Conan tale takes the bloodthirsty Cimmerian, and why he'll leave a host of bodies in his wake this time. Dark Horse Comics has also provided Splash Page readers with an exclusive preview of "Conan: The Weight Of The Crown."

Captain AmericaIt's out with the old and in with the new as 2009 transitions into 2010 in just a few short hours. There's no question that it's been a fantastic, crazy and occasionally tumultuous year for comic book fans thanks to film releases like "Watchmen" and compelling news stories regarding "Iron Man 2," "Green Lantern" and others.

But all of that is in the past now. It's time to look forward at what we can expect in the new year. There are still many announced comic book movies and television shows that lack official casting, but with some of these projects heading into production in 2010, it's only a matter of time before the secrets are revealed.

While we all have our own favorite franchises and characters, these are the five heroes and villains I'm dying to see cast in 2010. Read more...

ConanThe long-awaited “Conan the Barbarian” reboot by director Marcus Nispel is picking up steam and the casting process has been well underway for the last month.

During an interview with IGN, Paradox Entertainment president Fredrik Malmberg revealed that “Conan” will be their next project to hit the big screen. And while no final casting decisions have been made yet, Malmberg stated that rumors that Conan would be a teenager for most of the movie are false.

Malmberg also confirmed that Frank Miller is no longer attached to direct the adaptation of the classic sci-fi comic strip, “Buck Rogers.” Miller’s removal has been suspected ever since the dismal box office performance of “The Spirit.”

In addition to their time on “300”, Smith created makeup FX for “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” and “The Forbidden Kingdom” while Wheeler has worked extensively on two “Star Trek” movies, “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” and Joss Whedon’s upcoming film “The Cabin in the Woods.”

Dolph LundgrenA casting call may be out for the lead role in 'Conan,' since former franchise star Arnold Schwarzenegger is busy governing the State of California. Whether director Marcus Nispel agrees with Brett Ratner's perspective that the film's title character should be played by "an unknown" remains to be seen, but an established action movie legend and former face of the "Punisher" could make an appearance.

"I've talked to the producers about doing something for 'Conan,'" actor Dolph Lundgren told MTV News while promoting his direct-to-DVD film "Command Performance," which he co-wrote, directed and starred in. Read more...

ConanA recent casting call for the upcoming "Conan" film described the titular Cimmerian as "very smart, almost inhumanly strong, and very cunning." Essentially, we're talking about the perfect human being.

Casting Conan isn't easy, and not just because the description is so specifically tailored for a god-like actor. The widely adored character also comes in different shapes and sizes, from the Arnold Schwarzenegger-styled muscle man to the more agile but still powerful warrior featured early in Kurt Busiek's comic book series for Dark Horse.

On either end of that spectrum, whoever is chosen to play Conan must be a capable actor. Finding a bodybuilder that can slay dialogue as easily as he slays his enemies is not an enviable task. Read more...
