'Conan the Barbarian'FROM MTV MOVIES: Librarians, booksellers and English teachers, rejoice: Moviegoers overwhelmingly chose "The Help," adapted from the best-selling novel, over all of the remakes, sequels and reboots in theaters this past weekend.

"The Help" dropped just 21 percent in its second weekend of release, taking in $20.5 million (for a 12-day $71.8 million total) to become the #1 movie in America, according to studio estimates. The heavily promoted "Fright Night" remake, the "Conan" reboot and the latest "Spy Kids" all flopped.

Last week's #1 movie, "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," was in second place this week with $16.3 million. The well-reviewed sci-fi film's $133.8 million total put it past where Tim Burton's critically maligned "Planet of the Apes" remake was during a similar spot in its 2001 theatrical run.

ConanEnter an age undreamed of via the brand new "Conan the Barbarian" poster that has hit the web today.

The poster, which debuted at Fandango, is perhaps less action-packed than the ones we've previously seen, but it earns some serious points with us for showing off its leading men and ladies, including the seldom-seen Stephen Lang and Rose McGowan.

But at the central focus of the poster, as it should be, is leading man Jason Momoa as the titular barbarian. Alongside him is leading lady Rachel Nichols, who looks to be a bit more than meets the eye. If anyone was doubting that this was going to have appropriate amounts of fantasy to match the action, this should quell your fears.

The last time we checked in with our favorite Cimmerian via the recently-released red-band trailer (which was too bloody and naked to post here on our family-friendly Splash Page), he was up to a few of our favorite Conan-brand tricks: sword-swinging, yelling barbarically, not wearing a shirt. (That last one is the only reason I watched said trailer, if I'm being honest. And I don't mind a bit that my appreciation for Conan is both superficial and stereotypical.)

Moving along... today we have some more of Conan to love via a set of new production stills, most of which involve Conan (Jason Momoa) gripping his trusty sword and flashing an appropriately barbaric grimace. See below for more of the glorious, semi-gory stills.

It's been more than a month since that first "Conan the Barbarian" teaser popped up online, offering us our first glimpse at director Marcus Nispel's reinvention of Robert E. Howard's sword-swinging warrior. However, fans received a much more comprehensive preview of the film today, thanks to a new trailer.

Starring Jason Momoa as Conan, the new movie aims to reboot and reinvent the character's big-screen presence for a new generation — and if this first trailer posted at Yahoo Movies is any indication, things look like they're off to a good start. Read More...

The first teasing glimpse at director Marcus Nispel's "Conan the Barbarian" arrived on Saturday. The minute-long trailer features a curling wisp of smoke with incomplete flashes of movie footage popping in behind it.

While it might not be the reveal fans were hoping for, the teaser nonetheless serves up our first look at the movie in action, compliments of Yahoo!. And for all the pictures we've seen, it's still cool to see Jason Momoa as Conan pop up roughly halfway through, sword held to his side in a visual reference to the pose Arnold Schwarzenegger struck in one of the original 1982 film's images. You might scoff at the notion of seeing still images of Jason Momoa as "Conan the Barbarian" after last week's "Conan" motion poster debut, but you shouldn't. Any look at director Marcus Nispel's vision for his adaptation of the fearsome, sword-swinging warrior created by Robert E. Howard is a good thing — especially the new pics featured in the latest issue of Empire.

The Law of the Internet dictates that anything appearing in print will shortly thereafter appear online, and it continues to hold true with these new "Conan" scans, which come by way of Conan the Movie Blog. There are some cool looks at the upcoming movie, including several of the barbarian himself (shirtless, 'natch). There's also a glimpse of Stephen Lang in full makeup as the villainous Khalar Zym, looking on as a character referred to as "Jailer" (believed to be actor Nathan Jones) preps for a shot. Conan the BarbarianIt looks like the team behind "Conan The Barbarian" is handling things a little differently when it comes to the upcoming reboot of the movie franchise based on Robert E. Howard's famous barbarian. The first poster for the film was released today, and it's not your average piece of promo art — it's a motion poster.

Featuring star Jason Momoa standing atop a mountain of skulls — an homage to the classic "Conan" imagery of celebrated artist Frank Frazetta — the new poster is animated to reveal tumultuous skies above Conan and the ever-so-slight motion of his robes in the wind. The image is also features an ominous audio track that you can turn off in the lower-right corner.

The debut of the motion poster was accompanied by the launch of the new "Conan The Barbarian" website at conanthebarbarianin3d.com. Read More...

Conan the BarbarianFrom arrogant swordsman to cunning rogue, there are many ways that one could describe Conan — the impossibly muscled warrior, not the redheaded talk show host — but it appears that his status as a barbarian is still the favorite descriptor.

Superhero Hype reports that the forthcoming "Conan" reboot has changed its title to "Conan the Barbarian," reflecting the original title of the Arnold Schwarzenegger-starring adaptation. It's a small change for some, sure, but for longtime fans of the property and character, it's a step into previously conquered ground. Read More...

Stephen Lang nabbed an MTV Movie Awards nomination for Best Fight this year for his robotic-suit-assisted throwdown with Sam Worthington's big blue alien in "Avatar." Lang used machine guns, his huge metallic limbs, and even a massive slashing blade in the battle. But as the actor tells it to MTV News, that skirmish is nothing compared to what we'll see in "Conan."

"The look we created in this film, I've never been prouder than the creation of this role," he told us of his character, a merciless warlord named Khalar Singh. Read More...

No offense to Jason Momoa and his bulging biceps, but perhaps the most intriguing photos to trickle out from the "Conan" set in Bulgaria earlier this year were not focused on the Cimmerian warrior. Rather, what captured our attention were a series of pics that showed a ghost-white creature in the midst of acrobatic battle with Conan. We didn't know who or what this freaky-looking figure was, but we knew it couldn't be human.

Did this mean "Conan" would incorporate supernatural elements, as much of Robert E. Howard's source material does? Well, we know now that the answer is "Yes," thanks to a conversation with co-star Stephen Lang.

"If you read Robert Howard — of course the 'Conan' stories and novellas — magic, supernatural plays a huge, huge part in them: fakirs and magicians and wizards all over the place," Lang told us when he stopped by Splash Page HQ. "So magic is part of that world. The magic in this film, there's a lot of it and there's a lot of action-magic as well, a lot of magical fighting." Read More...
