Wizard of OzFor anyone who's read L. Frank Baum's original stories, Judy Garland's adventures in the 1939 film "The Wizard of Oz" might come off a bit more musical and sentimental than the slightly darker events within the series' source material. Now, 70 years later, Baum's darker tone could resurface in a cinematic sequel starring Dakota Fanning ("Push") courtesy of producers Basil Iwanyk and Spawn creator Todd McFarlane.

According to the Daily Express Warner Brothers is planning a brand new Oz story following the present day adventures of Dorothy's granddaughter.

But fans shouldn't necessarily expect singing Lollipop Guilds in this incarnation. McFarlane indicates Fanning's potential Dorothy won't be played as the naïve pushover or sweet voice of innocence she's been presented as in previous incarnations. Read more...

Dakota FanningAt the age of 14, Dakota Fanning is already one of Hollywood's most bankable young actors, thanks to roles in blockbusters such as "War of the Worlds" and "Charlotte's Web." However, her starring role in "Push," the upcoming, comics-inspired thriller about government-trained psychics on the run from a shadowy agency, offers up a decidedly more mature part for the teen to play.

In an interview with MTV, "Push" director Paul McGuigan said he had few doubts about Fanning's talent and her ability to play Cassie Holmes, a snarky, teenage "watcher" who can glimpse images of the future. In fact, McGuigan told MTV, he insisted on working with the actress.

"When I read the movie, the character that stood out was her character," said McGuigan. "I said to everyone, I can't do this movie unless Dakota Fanning's going to do it, because to me she was perfect for the role." Read more...

'Coraline'For those of you out there looking for the perfect complement to your "Nightmare Before Christmas" posters, Universal/Focus Features have got your hook-up!

And while the poster won't come decked out with a fancy-themed frame, it's a great look at the animation style that Selick has become known for. Read more...

'Coraline'As the February 2009 release date for "Coraline" gets closer, lead voice actress Dakota Fanning isn't hesitant to give the film sincere praise (and the occasional sneak-peek behind the scenes of the production).

"I have seen a sneak preview of about 20 minutes and its absolutely amazing -- it’s insane!" exclaimed Fanning regarding the film and possible Broadway musical. "It’s 3-D stop-motion animation and it looks real, seriously. The hair is real. The clothes are real. It is like a real movie, just miniature. I went to see the sets and some of them are humongous. The models and animators are just geniuses. They’ve been working on it for three years. I finally finished all the voiceovers. I think we’re all done." Read more...
