Ultimate Captain AmericaHurricane Irene is on its way to the East Coast right now, and everyone's got their own way of getting ready. Whether they're stockpiling booze, knives or water, the Twitter Report wishes everyone a safe weekend. Cooler heads have been posting as well, though, urging New Yorkers to remain calm.

Kevin Smith, meanwhile, appears to be relaxed to max now that he's done with part one of the script for his new film "Hit Somebody." His satisfaction, survival shopping lists and a killer Ultimate Captain America sketch from Reilly Brown topped our favorites list this morning. Catch 'em all after the jump.

Ultimate Spider-ManWhatever the cards looked like that you received for your birthday this year, they probably weren't as cool as Jim Lee's. He prefers the DIY variety and shared a picture of the creations he received this year.

Dan Slott, meanwhile, had the opportunity to discuss Spider-Man with his exterminator. What they talked about, an excerpt from the must-read #whengirlsrundc thread, and a note on the 4-year anniversary of artist Mike Wieringo's passing were the tweets that stuck out today.

Locke and KeyWith all of the terrible happenings in the news this week, today felt like the perfect Wednesday to veer away from contentious opinions, looting in London and big events impacting individuals who happen to work in comics. So here, without further ado are the ten tweets in the Twitter Report feed from the last 24 hours that were most likely to induce happiness.

They include details about the "Locke and Key" game from Joe Hill, Eric Powell Godzilla art and Stan Lee smiling next to a real life Stripperella. (Spoiler alert: He looks really, really happy.) They are in no particular order except for the best one being last.

Captain AmericaAs excited as many Mac users were for the arrival of OS X Lion last week, "Plants vs. Zombies" lovers got a rude awakening if they tried running the game on their new operating system. John Layman, for one, called out with a Darth Vaderian parade of exclamation points when he saw an error message stating that the game is incompatible with Lion.

Reviews for "Captain America: The First Avenger" remain a bit kinder. Skottie Young took issue with one scene, but Dan Slott promptly rose to its defense. Find out whose side you're on, as well as what kind of comic Warren Ellis would like to see, after the jump.

OS X LionThe wildest week on the comic book industry calendar is officially underway in San Diego right now. Opening night tweets percolated out of Comic-Con International last night, featuring fear, costumes and even some humility (for charity) from Brian Michael Bendis.

Apple's new operating system upgrade was also a popular source of stress and delight yesterday. Creators collectively assessed which scanners and apps on their desktops managed to be compatible with OS X Lion, and Mitch Breitweiser predicted the future of Apple computing. His thoughts, Dan Slott on "Captain America: The First Avenger" and Matt Fraction's space shuttle contemplation ranked atop our list of favorite tweets list after the jump.

Gwyneth PaltrowYesterday, our Twitter peeps were jabbering about the new "Mission: Impossible—Ghost Protocol" trailer, but a few people finally realized in the last 24 hours that the film's director, Brad Bird, is the same guy who did "The Incredibles." Dan Slott and Marc Bernardin chewed on those implications, while Mark Millar was just happy to see Gwyneth Paltrow show up scantily clad in Vanity Fair.

Other popular topics for the night included requests for Google+ invitations from creators eager to grab an early home on Google's new social network. The service turned out to be a welcome change for R. Stevens, thanks to one key attribute that sets it apart from Facebook. Find out what that is and where "Powers" and "Cowboys and Aliens" post-production are at after the jump.

Joss StoneIt's been a dangerous week for singer Joss Stone and "Game of Thrones" star Sean Bean. Stone was the target of an alleged murder conspiracy, while Bean reportedly survived a street attack in London. Brian Lynch and Phil Noto commented on these topics, while Dan Slott reflected on seeing Spider-Man and Bill Clinton in the same room.

Check out how that felt, along with which creator thinks he should have been invited to a "Green Lantern" screening and why Brian Michael Bendis doesn't hate DC comics after the jump.

Pirates of the CaribbeanE3 brought bucketfuls of new video game-related announcements this week, including a new Nintendo console and prices for Sony's new handheld system. Some terrible E3-vicinity news showed up last night from Marc Bernardin, though, and it sounds like someone ran off with his laptop. We at Splash Page hope the perpetrator meets with some justice posthaste.

More "X-Men: First Class" commentary continued pouring in as well. Down below you'll find Mark Millar's take, as well as an unabashed show of appreciation for "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" and observations about LeBron James.

Doctor WhoWell, that "Wonder Woman TV show on NBC doesn't sound like it will be happening this time around, as the network has reportedly passed on the series. Depending on whose tweets you're reading, this is either good or bad for comics. Jeff Parker would like to see a different approach, and Mark Millar thinks it's a healthy sign. Sterling Gates, meanwhile, thinks the show could have been great.

One TV event we're all hoping will be great is that Neil Gaiman "Doctor Who" episode that's coming up this weekend. Gaiman, fellow "Who" writer Paul Cornell and Dave Gibbons chatted about that. Find out what kind of Ood Gibbons considers Cornell to be, and one change that Dan Slott spotted in "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" down below.

PowersBad movie jokes about Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver's separation were easy to find in the feed this morning. When you dedicate your career to outrageous action movies full of clever one-liners, these things tend to happen, so hopefully they're taking the jabs in stride.

The comic book movies world got a great update from Brian Michael Bendis, though. Apparently he's been watching tapes of potential "Powers" actors. Now, he just needs to tell us a little more about the surprises he mentioned. Place your bets after the jump, where we've got more "Source Code" and "Thor" reviews.
