Each time the topic of a follow-up to "X-Men: First Class" comes up, everyone seems eager to do it. Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy have both opened up about collaborating on ideas. Now top Fox exec Tom Rothman says that he wants it to happen: "We're trying like hell. We're trying as hard as we can. We really want to do it. We're planning to do it."

MTV News caught up with Rothman at the Gotham Independent Film Awards, and they spoke about the prospects continuing that series and how its success has changed how the studio approaches superhero movies.

"The reason, in addition to those two guys and Matthew Vaughn, that it was as good as it was that the script was really good," Rothman said. "The key to making a great continuing franchise is to have a great script, so we're working hard on it."

DaredevilThe relaunch of the “X-Men” franchise has received a lot of praise since opening last weekend, but it’s far from the only reboot hitting screens over the next few years. “Daredevil,” which was made into a movie in 2003, is also being set up for a big feature-film comeback — and it may have snagged a hot writer to help it along.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Brad Caleb Kane, a writer and producer from “Fringe,” has been tapped to write the reboot’s script. It won’t just be any script, though: the movie will be based on Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli’s celebrated "Born Again" arc from the comics. Read More...

Last week was an emotional roller-coaster here on MTV Splash Page. On one hand, you had the devastating news that Darren Aronofsky stepped away from directing "The Wolverine." And on the other, David Slade, a former front-runner for the "Wolverine" gig, signed on to direct a new Daredevil movie.

While the original report described Slade's movie as "a continuation of the saga," that may not actually be the case.

The director took to Twitter over the weekend with a series of updates on "Daredevil" and other projects. In one particularly telling post, he writes, "It will [bear] no relation to the previous Daredevil movie in any way. We are at early planning stages and have not yet discussed any cast." Last week, a rumor that named "Twilight" star Robert Pattinson among the contenders for the lead role in David Slade's upcoming "Daredevil" pseudo-sequel caused no small amount of buzz around the online world.

When MTV News spoke to the "Water For Elephants" actor as part of this weekend's live, streaming "MTV First: Robert Pattinson" interview, we made sure to ask him about the rumor pegging him as a potential Matt Murdock.

"I don't know where that one came from at all," said Pattinson of the rumor. Read More...

Wolverine - DaredevilWhat started out as a slow week in the comic book movie world picked up quite a bit of speed in the last 48 hours, with David Slade named as director for a "Daredevil" pseudo-sequel, and Darren Aronofsky announcing his departure from "The Wolverine." And while much remains uncertain about both of these high-profile projects, the convergence of these two items got us thinking around Splash Page HQ, and we ended up with a modest proposal.

It's pretty simple, really: Darren Aronofsky and David Slade should switch movies, with the former directing the "Daredevil" movie and the latter taking on "The Wolverine."

Why? Well, not only does it make sense stylistically, but it works out quite nicely on the logistics side, too. Just hear me out on this, okay? Read More...

Well, it was only a matter of time before this rumor started making the rounds online. And though it's almost certainly nothing more than that — a rumor — it seemed worth noting, if only to offer everyone a place to register their reactions to the idea.

Over at Moviehole, there's the inevitable mention of pairing of recently announced "Daredevil" sequel director David Slade with the high-profile star of his most recent film, "Twilight Saga: Eclipse" lead Robert Pattinson.

Robert Pattinson - Daredevil

"With David Slade given the job, there’s 'some kind of talk' about Robert Pattinson – who, with the 'Twilight' series winding up, is going to be looking for a new well-paying gig – playing the part of Matt Murdock," reports the site. Read More...

By and large, fans were unimpressed with Mark Steven Johnson's 2003 adaptation of the Marvel Comics series "Daredevil" for 20th Century Fox. While it was a masterpiece compared to the "Elektra" spin-off that followed, it still fell short of expectations.

Fox has held onto the rights since then by keeping a follow-up in development, and now momentum is building for another adventure with the blind lawyer/vigilante superhero, to be helmed by "30 Days of Night" director David Slade.

Slade will work on what sources tell Variety is "a continuation of the 'Daredevil' saga," picking up after the events of the 2003 film, which starred Ben Affleck. The sequel-not-reboot status is further confirmed by Deadline, though no further information than that is revealed. A writer has not been hired, but the person will reportedly "work closely" with Slade on developing the story. Read More...

Like it or not, a "Daredevil" reboot is coming. It's incredibly unlikely that former star Ben Affleck (or anybody associated with the old film's creative side, for that matter) will return for the new film, leaving us to wonder who the next actor to preside over Hell's Kitchen will be.

Casting Daredevil is harder than one might think. You need someone who can pull off Matt Murdock's undying fealty to justice and the legal system, but also can still get gritty and menacing when the billy clubs come out. Someone proficient in intense action sequences would be nice — that's likely why some fans have supported Jason Statham for the part — but in my opinion, it's much more important to find an actor that can get inside of Murdock's head space, both as a lawyer and as a vigilante.

With those qualities in mind, here are five actors that could take the next "Daredevil" movie by the horns. Read More...

Seven years after Ben Affleck donned red leather as the blind guardian angel Daredevil, the actor admits the character’s first theatrical adventure might not have hit the bullseye when compared to today's golden age of superhero films. Given Friday's announcement of a new "Daredevil" movie in the works, it seems like the perfect time to bring you Affleck's thoughts on how far superhero movies have come since his turn as the Marvel Comics character.

"Well, I think we missed a lot in that movie,” Affleck told MTV News during the recent Sundance Film Festival, “before they really kind of figured out how to do [superhero movies] right.” Read More...

Daredevil'Tis the season for reboots, it seems — and Marvel's blind protector of Hell's Kitchen is next on the list.

According to Deadline Hollywood, a new "Daredevil" movie is in the works, written by "The Day The Earth Stood Still" screenwriter David Scarpa. The film will be produced by former News Corp President Peter Chernin.

While there's been no official word on the reboot thus far, rumors regarding a "Daredevil" reboot surfaced back in March 2009 and have been the subject of much online speculation. 20th Century Fox currently owns the rights to the character, but stands to lose the rights if the property remains idle for too long.
