DESCIt was big news when we learned Darren Aronofsky would no longer be directing “The Wolverine,” and now the floodgates are open with talk and rumors of who might replace him in the director's chair.

Nothing is official yet, but Deadline is reporting that they've heard David Slade and Duncan Jones' names as potential replacements for Aronofsky. Slade's a very familiar name on the comic book circuit, having directed "30 Days of Night" and recently being named as the “Daredevil” pseudo-sequel's director.

Jones, meanwhile, directed “Moon” and the just-released “Source Code,” and was once rumored to direct "Superman" before Zack Snyder snagged the job.

Hugh JackmanAfter the departure of Darren Aronofsky from the director's chair of the upcoming "The Wolverine", fans have been scrambling to come up with names of who could replace the award-winning director. And as it turns out, so is the film's star, Hugh Jackman.

"We need to find another director and once we've found that, we'll be able to know," Jackman told ComingSoon.Net during the CinemaCon event for theater owners. As to whether the devastation caused by the recent earthquake and resulting tsunami would have an effect on the film's schedule, he said it was "too early to call."

"I'm not sure where they're at, so now we're finding another director, but Fox is very anxious to make the movie and we're moving ahead full steam to find another director," he explained. Read More...

The WolverineNow that Darren Aronofsky is no longer directing "The Wolverine," the field is wide open for another filmmaker interested in tackling Logan's second solo adventure.

Way back in September 2010, before Aronofsky was confirmed for the gig, we suggested five directors we thought would be good for the project (he was one of them). In the months that since, we've learned more about the film and, well... let's just say it's time to revise our list.

After much debate around Splash Page HQ, we've come up with a list of five filmmakers we'd like to see behind the camera when Wolverine heads to Japan. Read More...

Last week was an emotional roller-coaster here on MTV Splash Page. On one hand, you had the devastating news that Darren Aronofsky stepped away from directing "The Wolverine." And on the other, David Slade, a former front-runner for the "Wolverine" gig, signed on to direct a new Daredevil movie.

While the original report described Slade's movie as "a continuation of the saga," that may not actually be the case.

The director took to Twitter over the weekend with a series of updates on "Daredevil" and other projects. In one particularly telling post, he writes, "It will [bear] no relation to the previous Daredevil movie in any way. We are at early planning stages and have not yet discussed any cast." Wolverine - DaredevilWhat started out as a slow week in the comic book movie world picked up quite a bit of speed in the last 48 hours, with David Slade named as director for a "Daredevil" pseudo-sequel, and Darren Aronofsky announcing his departure from "The Wolverine." And while much remains uncertain about both of these high-profile projects, the convergence of these two items got us thinking around Splash Page HQ, and we ended up with a modest proposal.

It's pretty simple, really: Darren Aronofsky and David Slade should switch movies, with the former directing the "Daredevil" movie and the latter taking on "The Wolverine."

Why? Well, not only does it make sense stylistically, but it works out quite nicely on the logistics side, too. Just hear me out on this, okay? Read More...

Darren AronofskyVery bad news, Wolverine fans. Almost four months to the day after Darren Aronofsky confirmed a two-year deal with 20th Century Fox that would start with him directing "The Wolverine," a follow-up to 2009's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," the "Black Swan" filmmaker is bowing out of the production.

Aronofsky pegs his departure to the production's lengthy shooting schedule, which will keep him out of the country for too long, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Franchise star Hugh Jackman is still on board, and Fox remains committed to making the movie happen under the supervision of a new director.

Aronofsky and Fox issued a joint statement, which pretty much lays out everything you need to know about his exit from the project. Read More...

Darren Aronofsky may be busy in the near-term preparing himself for the Oscars next weekend (where his 2010 thriller "Black Swan" is sure to make itself heard), but the project many readers are probably concerned with right now is how he's going to handle himself on "The Wolverine." The director spoke about his plans for the comic book movie again in a recent interview, reiterating previous statements that it should not be considered a sequel to "X-Men Origins: Wolverine."

"I just love working with Hugh Jackman," Aronofsky said in a pre-Oscars interview with NBC's PopcornBiz. "And I think there's something to be done in that world that hasn't been done yet. I'm also excited to do something that everyone wants to make, as opposed to being the only person that wants to make the film at the beginning." Read More...

Over a month has passed since we received an update from Darren Aronofsky on "The Wolverine," the "Black Swan" director's forthcoming comic book film that allegedly has nothing to do with the adamantium-laced mutant's last cinematic outings, save for the involvement of returning star Hugh Jackman.

But that doesn't mean that Aronofsky isn't still plugging away at his non-sequel. The filmmaker spoke with MTV News on the red carpet at the Golden Globe awards this weekend and said that he's hard at work on the project, even though he's still in the midst of promoting his current award-winning film. WolverineMany fans are still scratching their heads about Darren Aronofsky's new job as the director of "The Wolverine," the standalone non-sequel to "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." But according to series lead Hugh Jackman, Aronofsky's attachment to the comic book movie wasn't just a no-brainer — it was a long time coming, as well.

"I've been trying to get Darren since 'X-Men 3,' really," Jackman told Entertainment Weekly during a recent interview. "We've been talking about this and 'Wolverine' for so long."

Jackman, who worked with Aronofsky previously on "The Fountain," described the director as "a visionary" and elaborated on some of the creative conversations they've already had. Read More...

"Black Swan" director Darren Aronofsky has his hands full these days with the premiere of his dark, psychological thriller starring Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis, but once the dust settles, he'll take on a different type of dark story with "The Wolverine," the sequel to 2009's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine."

In fact, when MTV News spoke to Aronofsky at the premiere of "Black Swan," he said he's three weeks away from diving into Logan's next big-screen adventure.

"To be honest, I haven't really started working on it," said Aronofsky of his current status with regard to "The Wolverine." "I haven't even started to put my brain into it." Read More...
