Dr. HorribleNow that "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" is a bona fide award-winner with a sequel on the way, everyone wants to know what's next for Dr. Horrible, Captain Hammer and the rest of the gang.

I recently spoke to "Dr. Horrible" co-writer Zack Whedon, who scripted the inline musical along with brothers Joss and Jed and Jed's wife, Maurissa Tancharoen, and along with giving Splash Page readers an exclusive preview of the "Dr. Horrible" comic he's writing for Dark Horse, he also offered up an update on the musical's much-anticipated sequel.

"We've been planning it pretty much from the minute we finished the first one," said Whedon of the sequel, which Nathan Fillion recently revealed has both a title and a few songs written already. Read more...

Dr. HorribleWe all know last year's award-winning online musical "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" is getting a sequel at some point, but just in case you can't wait for the next chapter of Nathan Fillion and Neil Patrick Harris' hilarious (and occasionally heartbreaking) battle, a prequel of sorts arrives this month courtesy of Dark Horse Comics.

Written by Zack Whedon (who co-wrote the "Dr. Horrible" musical with brothers Joss and Jed and Jed's wife, Maurissa Tancharoen), the one-shot "Dr. Horrible" comic tells the tale of Dr. Horrible and Captain Hammer's first encounter.

I spoke to Whedon about his plans for the project and received an exclusive preview for Splash Page readers. Read more...

Joss Whedon's online musical "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" not only broke new ground for Internet media, it also landed an Emmy in the short-format, live-action category of the annual awards. So, it was probably no surprise that the series already had a sequel in the works long before all the award talk began. Back in August, we got the scoop from Whedon himself—and now we have an update from one the project's stars, "Castle" and "Firefly" star Nathan Fillion.

"There are plans," Fillion told MTV News. "The media for the sequel has not yet been decided, but there is a title." Read more...

Joss Whedon's musical miniseries "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" broke new ground with filmmaking for online audiences and earned the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" creator and his cast a lot of new fans, but with any success story like "Dr. Horrible," the question now becomes: what's next?

MTV News recently caught up with Whedon and posed that very same question, and if we're understanding the fan-favorite creator correctly, it sounds like there could not only be more "Dr. Horrible" on the way, but they already have a story in mind for the sequel.

"We're in there plugging. The writers are trying to put something together," Whedon told MTV News. "We haven't even decided on a venue. We have a story and we're working that. We're just starting with that." Read more...

When Joss Whedon first launched his online musical miniseries "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" last year, it was pretty obvious that the project was something special. Between the experimental method for delivering the series to fans, the low-budget production with high-profile stars, and the terribly addictive songs, there was no shortage of attention heaped on the project -- and for good reason. In short, it was one of the Internet highlights of 2008.

The "Dr. Horrible" DVD hits shelves tomorrow, and along with collecting the entire miniseries on one disc, the DVD also contains over 90 minutes of bonus material -- including an introduction to the "Evil League of Evil," the organization to which Dr. Horrible (Neil Patrick Harris) strives to prove his villainous worth. Here's an exclusive clip:

The rest of the DVD's bonus features all tend to keep in line with the project's tongue-in-cheek (and musical) fun, too. Read more...

Neil Patrick HarrisIf there was one moment of brilliance that came out of the writer’s strike, surely it was the Joss Whedon musical, “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-Long Blog.” Life seems a little bit brighter now that we’ve heard Nathan Fillion’s singing voice, discovered the existence of Bad Horse and his Evil League of Evil, and discovered how a mere bad guy becomes a super villain.

Fans of Dr. Horrible have been clamoring for a sequel since the first episode -- and given the sucker-punch of an ending, it seems wide open for one. When MTV News caught up with Dr. Horrible himself, Neil Patrick Harris, we asked if there was any chance that he would be returning in another installment.

“No, I wish," he told MTV. "Everyone asks me for scoops. We just worked on the DVD. It has its own unique commentary musical that I think is kick-ass. But otherwise there's no future with it at the moment." Read more...

'Moist'Compared to Dr. Horrible, his henchman Moist seemed pretty together, other than the being constantly damp thing. After all, he at least seemed to have a social life.

But we learn in the second Dr. Horrible prequel comic, "Moist: Humidity Rising" -- out today (December 3) on MySpace Dark Horse Presents -- that the boy who became Moist had a supervillain-esque origin story that perhaps makes him more of a sad sack than the titular wannabe supervillain of "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog." (The first comic being, of course, the one from Captain Hammer's point of view).

Moist, as it turns out, started off as abnormally dry, but "his father was just not very content with who his son was," comic scribe Zack Whedon told us. "He meddled a little too much [by getting him a Soviet humidifer that backfired]. I think that's what turned him into an outsider." Read more...

Dr. HorribleIt only took a few months for Bad Horse to get his stable in order, but the Evil League of Evil -- finally -- is accepting applications for new members .

"I would encourage people sending in their submissions to know that the Evil League of Evil is no joke," Neil Patrick Harris told us. "It's legitimately hard-core to get in. I would know."

Those who submit before October 11 have a chance at being included on the upcoming DVD commemorating the league's most recent member, and already there are some interesting prospects of the hundred or so-and-counting who leaped at the chance. For instance, this pair has extensive experience, or so they claim, with guns, knives, hand-to-hand combat, and debilitating bad breath. This vampire even went to the trouble of singing about his plight. And this aspirant doesn't even want to be in the League proper -- she just wants a shot at being Dr. Horrible's sidekick. Dr. HorribleDr. Horrible hasn't given up on his plans of world domination -- and neither have his creators. The promised soundtrack so you can actually sing along to “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog" will be downloadable on iTunes as of September 2, and the next comic is already being written by Zack Whedon.

"The soundtrack is rapidly approaching," Whedon said. "And all those cut-offs, where the songs would just end," such as on "Freeze Ray," when Neil Patrick Harris sings, "I will stop…" just as he's interrupted and forced to stop singing, "they will be on there as they are on the show. They're just in a much higher quality, and no sound effects. I sing along to everything and it'll be weeks before I can stop. It's driven me mad. Luckily, I can still hold down a job." Read more...

Drew Goddard as Fake Thomas Jefferson in 'Dr. Horrible'No sooner than had we posted an update on future Dr. Horrible comics, a member of the Evil League of Evil took umbrage with his description – and wrote to tell us so.

As careful Dr. Horrible observers already know, the ELE consists of Bad Horse (the Thoroughbred of Sin), Snake Bite, Fury Leika, Dead Bowie, Professor Normal, Tie-Die, and Fake Thomas Jefferson (who was played by “Cloverfield” scribe and frequent Whedon collaborator Drew Goddard). Joss Whedon had told us, “We want to do a Fake Thomas Jefferson comic.” That, you might think, would be good news. Except then Whedon said, “No one who is in the Evil League of Evil shouldn’t be in there, except Fake Thomas Jefferson, who’s pointless.”

“How dare you,” Goddard responded. “Thomas Jefferson is not pointless. He is the true brains behind the ELE, I don’t care what anybody says. And don’t give me any of that ‘I’m just reporting what Joss says’ crap. You better be careful, or you will feel Thomas Jefferson’s wrath.” Read more...
