Walking Dead

Well, this feels like it should come with a spoiler alert, though admittedly, it's all conjecture for now. But proceed with caution, "Walking Dead" fans…

…because according to a new report, actor Jon Bernthal is in the running for a major reunion with Frank Darabont, a move that's potentially very telling about his continued days with the "Dead."

Walking Dead

If you thought Sam Witwer's description of an unproduced "Walking Dead" web series last week would make you miss Frank Darabont, just wait: there's more.

Ain't It Cool News followed up with Darabont to confirm Witwer's account of the online series, which would have followed a soldier's trek through zombie-ravaged Atlanta, culminating in his death-by-zombie-fever inside of the tank we see in the "Walking Dead" pilot episode. Darabont not only confirmed the idea, he also added new details, including the fact that this wouldn't have been a web series, but a full-fledged season premiere.

"This was never meant as a web gimmick, this was intended for use in the actual TV series," Darabont wrote to AICN in an e-mail. "I wanted to kick off the 2nd season with the flashback episode Sam describes, which would have followed a squad of Army Rangers getting trapped in the city and trying to survive as Atlanta falls."

Fans of "The Walking Dead," returning this Sunday night (October 16), may be waiting with bated breath to see how the second season of the zombie survival series unfolds after a summer of behind the scenes drama. When AMC and executive producer Frank Darabont abruptly parted ways this past July, it was uncertain whether the hit show would remain the same without the driving force behind it.

Rest assured zombie fanatics. Robert Kirkman, writer of "The Walking Dead" comic series and executive producer on the show, stopped by MTV News and assured viewers that when the second season premieres this Sunday (October 16), it will be the same "Dead" we love and that the issues stayed behind the camera.

Walking DeadWill Frank Darabont's departure from "The Walking Dead" be a frequent point of conversation when "The Talking Dead" airs? I'm not sure about that, but it's nonetheless refreshing to finally hear some thoughts from the cast about how the show is doing without Frank.

Entertainment Weekly has an extensive new interview with several members of the cast and crew of "The Walking Dead," including newly appointed showrunner Glen Mazzara, who's already spoken out about the subject of Darabont's exit. But it's the first you'll hear from actors Jon Bernthal (Shane), Steven Yeun (Glenn) and Sarah Wayne Callies (Lori) on the topic, all of whom provide great insight into how they're dealing with the original showrunner's loss on and off the set.

“This will always be Frank’s show,” said Bernthal. “This is Frank’s creation, Frank is the heart and soul, and as far as I’m concerned he always will be. That might piss some people off to hear, but Frank is all over this second season.”

Frank DarabontOver a month has passed since "The Walking Dead" and Frank Darabont parted ways, but according to a new report, perhaps his days with the dead aren't entirely over.

Darabont is still in discussions with AMC "to continue on with an unspecified role on the show," Deadline reports, citing inside sources. He'll reportedly retain his executive producer credit, but exactly how involved he'll be with the creative goings-on of the series remains unclear, with negotiations "in the hands of the lawyers."

For his part, series executive producer and comic book creator Robert Kirkman told Deadline that the transition from Darabont to new showrunner Glen Mazzara has gone very smoothly.

AMC's debut season of "The Walking Dead," Frank Darabont's adaptation of the popular Robert Kirkman comic book series, ended with some troubling real-world news as the show's writing staff was let go. Reports had previously suggested that Darabont would simply be using freelance writers from then on, but now Deadline has word will be signing on as executive writing producer, managing a small team of yet-to-be-determined writers.

The writing staff was let go just days before the first season's sixth and final season aired. Previous exec writing producer Charles Eglee was among those let go, landing a writer/exec producer gig soon after for Sony's TV adaptation of the Brian Michael Bendis/Michael Avon Oeming-penned series "Powers." "The Walking Dead" is over for now, but we're already thinking about where the hit AMC series could go in season two. We're not the only ones, either, as several cast and crew members have started weighing in with their own theories about the future of the zombie apocalypse series.

"I want the audience to feel uncertain when they tune in," series director and showrunner Frank Darabont told AMC about the show's future in a video interview. "My hope is that if we're lucky enough to be in the long run on a show like this, we'll be able to make the stakes as high as we can as we go along. I think that's just going to make the viewing experience more compelling for the audience." Read More...

The Walking DeadJust when you thought there was nothing that could stand in the way of "The Walking Dead" comes word that some major changes are coming to the smash hit AMC series.

Deadline reports that writer, executive producer and director Frank Darabont has let go of the entire writing staff on "The Walking Dead," which has already been renewed for a 13-episode second season. The decision extends beyond season one, however, as Darabont reportedly doesn't want a writing staff for season two — instead, he's considering assigning scripts to freelance writers.

AMC representatives informed Deadline that no final decisions regarding the show's production team for season two have been made at this time. Read More...

The Walking DeadEpisode Title: "Guts"

Written By: Frank Darabont

Story: Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) is trapped inside of an immovable tank, lightly armed and completely surrounded on the outside by a horde of flesh-eating zombies. He's not entirely without hope, thanks to a stranger named Glenn (Steven Yeun) who helps Rick devise a plan to break away from the tank and get to safety.

But perhaps it's too early to claim victory, as Rick's initial actions in Atlanta have caused the bloodthirsty masses to sniff out the living, bringing potential doom to the doorsteps of a handful of survivors — including one nasty piece of work named Merle Dixon (Michael Rooker). Read More...
