Frank Miller's big-screen adaptation of the classic Will Eisner series "The Spirit" hits DVD and Blu-Ray tomorrow (April 14) from Lionsgate Home Entertainment, and both formats are packed with special features -- including the never-before-seen alternate ending to the film. At the risk of playing spoiler, we have the exclusive storyboard animation of that aforementioned alternate ending, as narrated by The Spirit himself, Gabriel Macht.
Back in February, we gave you the scoop on the DVD and Blu-Ray specs for "The Spirit," so if you're planning to add Frank Miller's take on Eisner to your collection, you can pick up "The Spirit" tomorrow for $39.99 (Blu-Ray), $34.98 (2-Disc DVD Special Edition) or $29.95 (DVD).
Oh, and if you're looking for even more of Eisner's hero, remember that the adventures of "The Spirit" continue in comic form every month, folks!
Planning to pick up "The Spirit"? What do you think of the alternate ending? Sound off in the comment section!
Here we are, just a day away from the December 25 release of "The Spirit," and naturally, we're already asking about a sequel (because, let's face it, it's never to early to start talking sequel). So, when MTV had the chance to talk with "The Spirit" co-stars Gabriel Macht and Eva Mendes, we decided to see if they thought a follow-up to this Christmas' latest offering to the superhero film genre would be worth it.
While Macht seemed to be ready for it, Mendes had a different point of view. Check out the video below to see what the two stars had to say:
What do you think, readers? Would you like to see a sequel to "The Spirit," or is one film enough? We wanna know what you think in the comments.
We're getting closer and closer to the wide release of "The Spirit," and we here at Splash Page couldn't be more excited to see Will Eisner's classic comic hero come alive with a healthy dose of Frank Miller grit. So, when MTV sat down with stars Eva Mendes and Gabriel Macht, we could barely contain ourselves from talkin' comics with the stars -- from "The Spirit" to "Watchmen," and even "Ghost Rider" manages to come up in conversation.
Check out what the two had to say in the following video:
So, what do you think of Macht and Mendes' comments? Do you think reading the comics are important when taking on a role, or do they have the right idea? Talk it up in the comments.
We've heard quite a bit about the ladies of "The Spirit," had a chance to get Frank Miller's take on his solo-directorial debut, and naturally, Samuel L. Jackson has gotten plenty of face time concerning the production, yet we've heard very little from the actual star of the film, Gabriel Macht (who plays Denny Colt, a.k.a. The Spirit).
However, it looks like the fine folks at Sci Fi Wire have caught on to this and hooked up an extensive interview with the star of this Christmas' noir superhero flick, who was quick to point out that, when it came to the source material, he had quite a bit of catching up to do...albeit with a little help from a comic book icon in Miller.
"I went out and bought 'The Best of The Spirit,' which has the color versions of the old comics," said Macht in the Sci Fi Wire story. "When I came to visit with Frank, he said, 'So, what have you done?' And I said, 'Well, I've immersed myself in The Best of...' He goes, 'No, no, no, no. I'm not a fan of the coloring that they did for those comics. Let me give you my picks.' So he gave me a massive binder of his favorite Will Eisner work, but all in black and white." Read more...
According to the calendar, yup, it's officially December, which means we're entering a big month for comic book movies (namely, "Punisher: War Zone" and "The Spirit"), so of course that means we're gonna be inundated with marketing for December's two, highly-anticipated comic flicks.
As we count down the days to see "Punisher: War Zone" (opening this Friday!), new images from December 25's "The Spirit" made their way on the tubes over the holiday weekend. Among them, two variant covers to Brazilian Hollywood mag "Set," featuring Gabriel Macht's Denny Colt (aka The Spirit) and Scarlett Johansson's portrayal of Silken Floss.
Oh, and for those of you who thought you'd seen the last "The Spirit" teaser poster, Lionsgate's got one word for ya: "SYKE!" After the jump, we've got both covers from "Set" as well as the latest "The Spirit" poster which has been seen floating around the mean streets of Taiwan. Read more...
Frank Miller's big-screen adaptation of "The Spirit" hits theaters in less than 60 days and the film's marketing machine has been running at full speed lately, with a variety of cast and crew interviews popping up around the 'Tubes during the last week, and today, a new set of photos from the film.
Over at MovieWeb, there's a nice gallery of the newly released images from "The Spirit," including the one we've posted here and another we've posted after the jump. While the new photos don't seem to reveal any big news about the film, they do provide a few more looks at Samuel Jackson as The Octopus -- who's looking especially terrified in the photo we've posted here.
After the jump, get a peek at The Spirit himself, as played by Gabriel Macht, looking a bit beaten down and dirty -- which, as any fan of the original Will Eisner "Spirit" will certainly attest, is not that uncommon a look for the hero. Read more...
Say what you'd like about "The Spirit" in terms of what we've seen and heard so far, one thing is for sure -- Lionsgate has not been asleep at the wheel in terms of marketing the upcoming film!
Need proof? If you live in a major city, chances are you've been seeing posters for "The Spirit" for almost a year now, and apparently, Lionsgate is continuing the artistic onslaught as the studio has released another theatrical poster. A departure from the femme fatale series, this one features a stark, almost haunting image of the masked avenger known as The Spirit.
After the jump, check out the poster in full. Read more...
With the December 25 debut of Frank Miller's "The Spirit" approaching, Lionsgate has fed the 'Net with yet another trailer for the highly anticipated adaptation of the Will Eisner series.
We've posted the new trailer after the jump in all of its oft-cited "Sin City"-esque glory, full of black and white scenes splashed with occasional color. The trailer also provides a better look at Samuel L. Jackson's villain, The Octopus, as well as quite a bit of skin, courtesy of Gabriel Macht (The Spirit) and Eva Mendes (Sand Saref).
We also catch a glimpse of the much-discussed brawl 'tween The Octopus and The Spirit which had fans grumbling when it was screened during San Diego Comic-Con and Jackson favorably comparing the film to a Looney Tunes episode during a recent MTV News interview. Read more...
