The Walking Dead"The Walking Dead" became one of the biggest breakout indie series of the last decade after Robert Kirkman launched it at Image Comics. Now, another entertainment upstart may be bringing the zombie serial to wider audiences with an adaptation courtesy of "Shawshank Redemption" and "The Mist" director Frank Darabont. AMC, the cable network who made an Emmy winner out of their original series "Mad Men" when it began dabbling in dramas, wants Kirkman's tale to join its programming schedule.

"This is not about zombies popping out of closets," Joel Stillerman, AMC's senior VP of programming told Variety. "This is a story about survival, and the dynamics of what happens when a group is forced to survive under these circumstances." Read More...

'Magdalena'When we last checked in on the production of "Magdalena," a live-action film based on the Top Cow Productions comic book character, co-star Luke Goss referred to the flick as "'The Da Vinci Code' with substance, and more action."

Apparently, the film's producer, Gale Anne Hurd, likes that assessment, describing "Magdalena" in an interview with ShockTillYouDrop.com as, "Kind of like 'The DaVinci Code' meets 'Wanted'. You've got the mythology and a character who isn't initially aware of her legacy which [is] something I love. Many of my films deal with that. And it still has supernatural elements." Read More...

GearheadHollywood's comic book crush has churned out its share of movie options, but for the "Gearhead" creative team of writer Dennis Hopeless and artist Kevin Mellon, lightning's struck twice.

"Gearhead" made headlines this week with the announcement that it had been picked up by "Incredible Hulk" and "Punisher: War Zone" producer Gale Anne Hurd's Valhalla Motion Pictures. The four-issue "Gearhead" miniseries through Arcana Comics follows mechanic bombshell Shelby as she seeks her destiny on the outskirts of a super hero-imposed utopia. Along the way she discovers a heritage she never knew and, among other adventurous activities, takes up beating bad guys with a giant wrench. Read More...

Most recently, we’ve been all over “Twilight” for this very reason – and looking to the future, we’re keeping a close eye on projects like “Magdalena.”

Over at Splash Page, we ran a whole week of news about the 2010 film. And when I caught up with super-producer Gale Ann Hurd recently, I wanted to make sure we got the latest.

“We’re in the early script phase at the moment,” explained Hurd, mastermind behind the “Terminator” and “Hulk” franchises. “There should be some [casting announcements] within the next month and a half on this.” Read More...
