The Walking DeadReports that "The Walking Dead" writer, director and executive producer Frank Darabont has fired his entire writing staff were described as "unfortunate" and "premature" by comic book creator and executive producer Robert Kirkman, and now another colleague is weighing in on the report.

Executive producer Gale Anne Hurd spoke with Entertainment Weekly and denied the report that Darabont fired his staff writers, saying: "It's completely inaccurate."

“[In] the writers’ room, there are people that have set up other projects that will be their first priority if their own series is picked up as a pilot or if it’s a series," she said, going on to address writer Charles "Chic" Eglee's departure: "I think [Eglee] just decided that he wants to run his own show.” Read More...

Now that we know who Frank Darabont and Gale Anne Hurd's favorite zombies in "The Walking Dead" are, perhaps it's time to get another similar tidbit out of them: what are their favorite scary movies?

When we spoke with the producers of the upcoming AMC television series during New York Comic Con, they had a laundry list of horror flicks that they tend to put on during the Halloween season.

"My sort of traditional Halloween movie viewing experience starts with 'Night of the Living Dead' and then 'The Exorcist,'" Darabont told MTV News. "And then I usually wrap it up with 'Count Yorga, Vampire.'" Read More...

Ever since the first images of zombies from "The Walking Dead" hit the 'net, it was clear that fans needn't be afraid of Robert Kirkman's post-apocalyptic saga getting softened for television. What they should be afraid of, however, was the magic worked by makeup effects supervisor Greg Nicotero in bringing the shambling, flesh-hungry creatures to life... or in this case, living death.

Yesterday we brought you a brand new clip from "The Walking Dead" featuring a particularly terrifying zombie that main character Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) encounters in the series' premiere. When I spoke to "The Walking Dead" producers Gale Anne Hurd and Frank Darabont (who also wrote and directed the premiere), I asked them which zombies were their favorites from the six episodes filmed.

"You know what I love? I love the zombie [with the] axe through the head," Hurd told MTV News. "That's one of my favorites." Read More...

It's only a matter of weeks before "The Walking Dead" premieres on AMC, bringing Robert Kirkman's celebrated, long-running comic book series to life by way of Frank Darabont ("The Mist"), Gale Anne Hurd ("Incredible Hulk"), and a long list of other accomplished creators and cast.

During New York Comic Con, I managed to snag some time with Darabont and Hurd to discuss the series and its looming October 31 debut, and get a post-mortem of sorts on the first six episodes' similarities to the comic's initial story arc. Oh, and I also asked them about those rumors of an early green-light for the next 13 episodes of the series.

"What I find is that we're very much on course with the philosophy we approached the show with," Darabont told MTV News. "Which is, from the very first I always said to Robert Kirkman, 'I want to follow the narrative path you've laid out, but I want to take as many interesting detours and step off the path for a little bit as [much as] we can, as long as it feels organic to the overall." When MTV hit up the Hollywood premiere of "Step-Up 3-D" last week, the last person we thought we’d run into was beloved “Battlestar Galactica” composer Bear McCreary. Talk about pleasant surprises! McCreary penned the music for the dance flick, which has several big, tribal-y drum numbers (A McCreary specialty! See: “Fight Night”) and even better, McCreary talked about his next project: scoring “The Walking Dead” for Frank Darabont and AMC.

"I’m doing a new series, ‘The Walking Dead’ with Frank Darabont,” said McCreary. (Never mind the shaky mic/squealing in the video, I may or may not have started jumping up and down at this bit of news). “I’ve been working on that today. It’s a lot of fun.” Read More...

'Gearhead"Incredible Hulk" producer Gale Anne Hurd sure has been busy lately. It seems like we're mentioning her name just about every day, whether in conjunction with The Hulk's latest big-screen bow or, more recently, the upcoming "Punisher: War Zone" film. This time around, however, Variety reports that Hurd's production company Valhalla Motion Pictures has picked a decidedly more indie property: Arcana Comics' four-issue miniseries "Gearhead."

Created by Dennis Hopeless and Kevin Mellon, "Gearhead" features a female protagonist, Shelby, who embarks on a mission to unseat the corrupt superheroes who govern the country. According to Arcana's synopsis of the series, the main character's adventure takes her "from the drag strip all the way to the White House." Read More...
